So a bunch of names being thrown about but who is likely to become next manager?

It's still one of the biggest job in Soccer world. Clubs like MU, Real, Liverpool, Juve, Bayern, Barca, Arsenal or AC are not built on Oil money - I don't see them struggling to find sterling names for the most coveted job. And there are some really HIGH profile names available. I think Rafa should be added in list and may be Luis Enrique as well. Spanish people don't give a damn about their national team - it's all about the two Mafia there. Otherwise, Spain has produced the best soccer talents in Europe, with lots of Latino & East European playing for them as well, yet their success at international level compared to talent pool is abysmal, and people are happy as long as El Clasico is the best soccer deal in world.
I think, it's a philosophical call - if ManU wants to rebuild in a glamorous way, probably best guy to take the job is Carlo (Ancellotti) - brilliant, brilliant Italian tactician, who knows how to get things done and he'll get players that money can buy. The formation & tactics he used against PSG at the home game, then at Liverpool was outstanding, and he knows English Soccer as well. Players like Pogba, Fred, Alexis, Mata ... should flourish in his tactical game, which is based on possession rather than speed. Also MUs biggest weakness is non existent defense - Mou wanted to solve it by parking bus. Carlo can rejuvenate the MU defense with current bunch of players through his Italian organization.
Personally, I would like to see Eddie Howe - young British Manager, who has raised from the bottom ala SIr Alex and he is at the right age for another 25 years.
You are over-selling Ancelotti. A yesterday's manager whose stock is falling in the modern game, and whose track-record in league football is quite unimpressive. Besides, there is a reason why he finds himself in Napoli after the massive flop show at Bayern.
He is a very safe and reliable interim option (that is if he was unemployed at the moment), but he is not someone who is going to challenge Pep or Klopp. Benitez is in the same boat, even if we ignore the Liverpool connection. Managers like them can prevent the ship from sinking further, but they cannot transform the club or bring new energy.
Furthermore, Man United's nightmarish experience with other 2000s managers like Mourinho and van Gaal means that they will stay away from the likes of Ancelotti, Benitez etc.
Howe is undoubtedly the most promising young British manager, but again, he is not going to be considered because of the Moyes experience. Man United is in a very critical stage at the moment. If they do not get their house in order within 2-3 years, they will in grave danger of becoming a mid-table team for a very, very long time. They are not in a position where they can take risks with the likes of Howe who have no big club experience.
The options are actually quite limited. Zidane is the popular choice but both come with their baggage. Zidane is a great motivator who will surely improve the likes of Pogba, Martial and Rashford individually, but I am not sure if he has what it takes to handle a sinking ship. After all, he left Real Madrid right before their rebuilding phase.
Man United has to be very shrewd with the next appointment. They cannot afford a fourth consecutive mistake.
Benitez won 2 La Liga with Valencia with a wage bill 1/4th of Real or Barca and then won an UCL with Liverpool that finished 5th that year in EPL, couple of years later he made the Final of CL again and kept Liverpool in CL SF for 4 years running - something cheque book managers like Guardiola can dream off.
Carlo won Bundesliga with Bayern in his only year, and won German Cup as well, therefore not sure how it was a flop show. He has won EPL, Serria A & French League. Has won 3 CL with 2 Clubs. (I am sure, you haven't checked Ancellotti's profile : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Ancelotti).
But I agree, MU has burnt hands with Mou & LVG, therefore might look for a younger Manager - they actually went for Jo Mou after failing to land Pep & Klopp. Whoever is appointed, must be given time thins time - at least 3 years, otherwise he'll face the same fate like Mou. I think, Klopp has summarized Mou's departure perfectly - "Jose had achieved too much, too early for MU, which created an out of proportion expectation for their squad ....". This is just after Mou's usual rant before Liverpool game, which actually tells lot about Klopp. But, he is right - after LVG, Mou won 3 Cups for MU in his 1st season and finished runners up to CFC, then he got better of his own ego![]()
As it looks, it's almost certain Zidane is going to take charge, only time'll tell if it's good or bad; but one thing for sure - we'll see some of the best French players in MU shirt : Varane, Pavard, may be Dembele, Tolliso, Fekir, Hernandes, Kante .....
