What's new

Who will provide the X-Factor for Pakistan in their T20 World Cup squad?

All those bashing Hafeez and Malik have no idea what the middle order would do without them. This lot couldn’t even chase 120 odd vs Zimbabwe earlier this year and got bowled out for 90 odd.

All these hacks have been exposed badly at the international level despite multiple chances so they don’t deserve to have a spot (asif ali, Khusdil shah, Azam khan, danish aziz and Hussain talat) they were all hyped to the moon but the truth is that even sohaib maqsood and Ifthikar are miles better than them. Atleast they can hold a bat and play at a good rate with sensible shots. In the name of power hitting Pakistan gave chances to these gully cricketers who couldn’t even perform ve South Africa C and Zimbabwe B.

If Pakistan are to win or perform in this world cup there will be major performances from Babar, rizwan, Hafeez and Malik. Fakhar and Haider will have to bat around them and up the run rate. Hafeez and Malik will outplay the whole team when it comes to playing quality spin in the uae. Malik saved pak last time they almost lost to Afghanistan in the asia cup and then Imad played well vs them in the wc19, if Pakistan didn’t make changes Khusdil, asif and Azam would’ve fell easily to afghani spinners cause even babar struggles vs quality spin.

The first 3 games will be huge for Pakistan. (India, NZ & Afghanistan) even if they win 2/3 they should make it provided they don’t slip up vs Bangladesh or another minnow. It looks like BCCIs influence has made ICC schedule all Pakistan’s matches early on with a 2 day gap between India and NZ and then 3 day between NZ and Afg with all India’s matches being spread out evenly. Even in the 2019 WC most teams had played their big matches before India started off vs South Africa.

Pakistan’s team looks a lot more balanced now. I would go with this XI with Rizwan coming down the order because it’s a team requirement. He was talking a lot about sacrifices so a left hand right hand combo at the top with Fakhar and his psychological edge over India means he needs to be opening with Babar. It’s a tough one between Nawaz and Shadab but Nawaz is the better spinner and has been in form with the ball. Imad is a much better batsman than Shadab who’s been out of form with the ball so id pick both Imad and Nawaz with Hafeez and Malik bowling some overs for the 3rd spinner if required. Or they could simply drop Rauf and play all 3 spinning allrounders which could be risky.

Fakhar
Babar (c)
Haider
Hafeez
Malik/asif
Rizwan/sarfraz (wk)
Imad
Nawaz/Shadab
Hasan
Rauf/Wasim
Shaheen

I disagree. I think Multan in recent times and Islamabad United have had capable and competent people at the helm. Take Ali Khan Tareen for instance. Before he lost out on his ownership he brought in Andy Flower, analysts from CricViz and Haider Azhar as team manager who are all competent people on the modern wavelength. And the result was there just a few month ago.

IU under Ali Naqvi has been the most successful PSL team. And alot of that success has been down to Hassan Cheema and Rehan-ul-Haq at the helm as managers who are very data-centric and recognize its integral importance in T20 cricket. They've also given chances to youngsters on a regular basis. And while that has unfortunately given us guys like Husain Talat and Asif Ali, they've given us Shadab and Mohammad Waseem too.

I get your point about talent but I don't think that's the fault of the owners or the franchise management. Their job is to create the best team out of the resources they have and the talent pool available to them. A team that is best equipped to bring them the trophy. They can't be blamed for the actual talent that comes out of the domestic system. Or how that talent does for Pakistan.

Asif Ali is a classic example in this regard. He goes from the penthouse to the outhouse as soon as he switches his PSL jersey for his national team jersey. From their point of view, why would they not want to retain a guy striking at close to 180 on a consistent basis for them?

A few owners are deluded people.

That being said, a few are actually competent.

Asif is a confusing case for all of us.

X factor is the performance in 1st 6 hours (both bat and ball),

If Pak can have good power play than game is on, Though we need Shadab in top bowling form to keep up the pressure & take wicket in the middle overs.

Interesting comments so far on this thread x factors usually refer to someone who can make a difference but isn't really known or is new to the international scene, guys like wasim Jr, haidar Ali and dahani fit that description in terms of being new. I still think wasim jr can play a part but had dahani been in the full sqaud he would have been the ideal x factor for Pakistan

I posted it at the start of the thread and will
Mention it again . The X factor is most definitely Fakhar zaman .

It seems now that with thus settle squad my x factor would be haris Rauf he always had the talent but was brainless and would leak runs

However due to the expectation he has risen to the occasion occasion both matches and made a big difference for pak by being economical and taking wickets and bowler smartly.

It's only been 2 games but imo he has been the x factor so far
