Sri Lanka lost at home to England, don't have Herath anymore, and are ranked 6 in tests and 8 in ODIs.

Pakistan lost at home to SL, and now to NZ. Ranked 7 in tests and 5 in ODIs.

Bangladesh were doing well (at least at home) for a couple of years, but haven't done much recently. Ranked 9 in tests 7 in ODIs.

Whereas England, SA, Australia (once Smith and Warner come back), and NZ are all doing okay.

India is the only Asian side that's doing well (ranked 1 in tests and 2 in ODIs). Is it going to stay like this, or is it just a phase and in a couple of years the others will start performing again?

To be fair, it is disrespectful for India to be grouped together with other Asian teams. From now on, it should be India and the Asian teams. The gulf between them and the rest is day and light.

Sri Lanka have good domestic structure but it is hard to maintain strong teams when you have a small talent pool. Besides, they were a bit unlucky against England because they lost three tosses. They are still tough to beat at home for all teams barring India.

Bangladesh are improving and they will overtake Pakistan across all formats in the next 10 years, but their inability to produce genuine strike pacers is hurting them.

As far Pakistan is concerned, our cricket is done and dusted. We are a failing nation and it is reflected in our cricket. Our journey to minnow land will be complete soon. We will never be among the leading cricketing nations again.

Though I think Bangladesh are going to have a hard time once Shakib leaves in a few years.

What is your opinion on Afghanistan?

Pakistan— they play in UAE.

SRL— Sanga and Mahela and Herath retirement.

Bangladesh—was never really good to begin with and lack of pace bowlers is hurting them.

India— cant seem to cope well with pace and bouncy pitches in SENA despite countless opportunities and tours.

Test cricket in general isn't what it used to be. Most of the teams manage to win because of their home advantage.

Just look at teams like Aus, SA and ENG. All are not as consistent around the globe as they used to be. But still superior in white ball cricket compared to some other nations.

The title should be "Why Pakistan and Sri Lanka Cricket is declining?"
( Well, India is no.1 in the format that really matters and top 3 in the others. So it's on the rise , not declining. Bangladesh and Afghanistan are RISING and are much better than what they were five years back . Heck even Nepal and Hong Kong are on the up).
Coming to Sri Lanka, well... The domestic structure lacks quality. And internal politics and corruption is ruining their cricket. Players coming through the ranks are mostly domestic hacks. Also the talent pool is small comparatively but that should not be an excuse.

And Pakistan...well... Inability to produce quality batsmen is the sole and the biggest reason for pakistan's mediocrity.
Reason for that may be the wickets used in the domestic circuit and low quality coaching. And then there is the elephant in the room of - Not playing at home regularly since 2008 -

Sri Lanka have been on decline.

Bangladesh have shown a bit of improvement but they will need an inspirational figure who could turn the tides around and make huge impact in turn around of BD cricket.

Pakistan have some good bowlers but their batting is going absolutely nowhere. It is medicore as hell.

India are head & shoulder ahead of any Asian team currently.

I think, Asian teams barring PAK is doing reasonably (In Test).

IND is ranked 1, and they have always been a poor tourist, still current team is winning away Tests (dominating LOs).

SRL has fall down from their best a decade back due to retirement of few genuine ATGs, but still here & there they are not that bad, I can say consistent at lower tier for last few years. Lost 3-0 to ENG, but just before that won 2-0 against SAF and won a Test at Barbados. May be from 2000s they have gone down, but not much since WC 2015 - still won 2-0 in UAE.

BD simply can't decline from past because of low starting base - we are competing teams at home and in SRL. Outside Asia Test is a challenge, but it was bigger challenge both home & away 5 years back, now most teams will struggle in BD against us.

What is your opinion on Afghanistan?

They have made rapid strides because of BCCI's support, but at some point, they will have to be self-sufficient. Unfortunately, that is not going to happen because of Afghanistan's status as a country. As a result, I don't see them becoming competitive in Tests and nor do their players seem to care about the format.

Pak has gone through the deepest decline as we can’t even win at home anymore. We just about edged a really weak AUS side.

Only Pakistan and Sri Lanka are on the decline. Bangladesh are good in LO and are making improvement in tests. They are also trying to introduce players from U19 cricket.
