The guy is only 32, supremely talented and surely a better middle order batsman than some of the middle order options for Pakistan.

Discuss.

Misbah, when he was Head Coach and Chief Selector, brought him back and he returned the favour with consecutive golden ducks against Sri Lanka.

oh god..

plz no

We dont need him. Would rather lose to Ziimbabwe than have him or Ahmad

Lol i was wondering which one it would be ? Shehzad, Malik, Akmal :))

But yeah Malik does make a better case lol

Unfortunately players who are decent hitters of the back foot like Akmal Fakhar Sharjeel are not in the team.

Umar is easily a more impactful opening batsmen than the ones selected an inform Umar is an asset to Pakistan but he won’t be getting selected as post 2015 he’s been frozen out by selectors in all formats he played only a few series against Australia in ODIs and Sri Lanka in T20s neither did he open the batting.

Hehehe...
...another thread please with Malik, Sharjeel, Azam and Maula Jatt backers!

Live with it Pak supporters, support your team, support your lot; so what if they're a bag of s£ite!

ofcourse he can , if anyone wants to tell me that haider ali , khushdil or asif ali is better than umar akmal then i wont take him seriously.

Umar akmal is a good t20 batsman if you look at the current lot.

Umar akmal is best Pakistani batsman in terms of quality in the last 10 years. He can still come back I believe

Umar Akmal can't even score runs in the second eleven domestic tournaments. He flopped really badly in USA and they decided not to call him up again. The Umar Akmal of 2009 to 2019 where he would show glimpses of his potential is long gone

Umar Akmal is a 1000X better player than any batsman in our middle order currently..

Umar is in the worst position he’s ever been as a player. He can’t break a second XI. His motivation is at an all time low. This is not the same player you may have known 2009-2014. He’s fallen off completely off the face of the cricketing world.

He was in free fall after the 2015 WC and never recovered. His last great innings came against Australia in the 2014 t20 WC where he made 94. That’s it. It’s going to be nearly 10 years since that happened. Let it go.

He made a double hundred in a first class final match around 2018 but wasn’t selected tells you everything that was during his prime since the 2 year ban his form in domestic has been patchy with extra weight on aswell but in PSL he showed he could make an impact in the Powerplay overs.

The way things are he was worth a try as a top order opener or number 3 as the batting is weak and wouldn’t do well in Australia anyway.

Isn't he still a better batsman than any of the other current middle order though?

And 32 is hardly old, Warner as an example just turned 36 yesterday.

Umar Akmal can't be selected if he isn't scoring runs in the second eleven sides and in the USA league.

Umar Akmal not do any worse than the current one. Pakistan need to give him final chance after this worldcup.

Umar's worst enemy is himself. If he can turn around his work ethic and seriously focus on his game, he can still come back and rule

I believe the Akmal brothers are the most unprofessional people to have ever represented the Pakistan cricket team, bar match fixers of course.

I simply can't believe there are Pak fans out there who want either one of them back in their team. Why? Just because your team hasn't done well in the ongoing tournament so far? Instead of opting for fresh arms and legs, you guys want to recycle old garbage? Our team was knocked out in the initial stages of the 2007 ODI World Cup. Did our selectors bring back old recycled garbage back, or did they start giving chances to new younger players?

He is a lost cause now. He has been given multiples chances to improve his fitness, game awareness and attitude however he has failed every time

Still remember how he was introduced in the team after hitting multiple centuries in Pak A team against Aus A in Australia. He was such a talented batsman and probably one of our last finest middle order batsmen and he performed well until 2016 I think. It's been downhill ever since for him so no going back. If he improves his fitness and performs in domestic, only then he should be thought of varying other options.

Pak selectors should make it a rule - No recycling of old garbage. Pick fresh upcoming arms and legs.

Umar Akmal is another batsman who have no game awareness but as compared to current lot of middle order like Khushdil, Asif and Iftikhar. He is probably better among all. I dont know his current fitness and form but from past experience he looks a better player not reliable but can score runs quickly and he was a decent fielder as well. Babar Azam and Akmal are cousins but looks like both the families are not in good term with each other. Kamran Akmal was critising Babar captaincy. Babar is a very good batsman and a good and humble boy but not suited for Captaincy. He only need to concentrate on his batting like Sachin did for India and forgot about everything. Captaincy criticism is taking a toll on his mental health. He need to bat at No.3 in both T20 and ODIs and let the more flamboyant openers to take the charge ..

How did he perform on his last recall to internationals vs Sri Lanka in 2019 ? Or in domestic T20s ? There's the answer.

The horse is dead.

But keep flogging him in hope he wakes up because once upon a time he came from a breed of rare horses.

Certain men have been Stat padding increasing their avg, making team players who go for the win look bad!

Akmal ruined himself!

What a rubbish thread? Pakistan only need to play Babar in middle order and impact openers at top.All problems shall get rectified..
There is no need for akmals and shehzads..If they weren't good at their peak how can they be good now??What outstanding contribution have they done in domestic circuit during during last 3 years that warrants their recall??
Pls.for sake of Pak cricket don't get them back..

On topic though has he done anything in domestics or foreign leagues that people want him back or is it just on the talent he displayed smacking bowlers like Bond and Johnson decade and a half ago?

umar akmal's T20I avg is 26 and s/r is 123.
why does all these players names keep coming up instead of searching for & grooming young talent?

It’s not about age man. What proof do you have that he’s better than the domestic ranked batsmen outperforming him currently?

You’re going off his past contributions, of nearly 10 years. He’s a big name. If he was worthy of a place in the team, he’d be back by now.

Truth is he’s languishing in 2nd XIs even in domestics. Think about that for a second. And then think about how big of a jump / fall it is from performing at an intl level.

Umar's worst enemy is himself. If he can turn around his work ethic and seriously focus on his game, he can still come back and rule

I agree with this. He’s stopping himself from getting selected. He got in his own way and prevented himself from being all that he could be given his natural talent.

Can he turn his career around? Yes

Will he? Allahu A’lam

Hard work beats talent. When talent doesn’t work hard.

Quote should have been made for Umar Akmal.

Passionate, Powerful and a Gifted batsman when he burst onto the scene. Showed consistency for a while unlike any other Pakistani for his age at the time. Many would argue for a period he was probably Pakistan’s best batsman.

In my honest opinion as a Pakistan cricket fan of his after the first 3 years of Umar Akmal’s career, I realised as a professional athlete. To me it looks like he has no interest in learning or working harder than he should to become better. Fitness, Working on technical issues when consistent mistakes are made, In-game awareness, General cricketing IQ. It didn’t improve from Umar Akmal.

as a Pakistan cricket fan AND* of his after the first 3 years of Umar Akmal’s career.
