Any specific reason? Are they protesting something? Was very confused. Pakistani players put hand to heart as counter. Not sure if this was discussed by both teams beforehand?

Maybe they took a knee for the end of the streak :afridi :afridi

Desi cricketers should be the last to do virtue signalling, given how the countries in the subcontinent are hellholes for minorities. Felt cringey to watch.

Was it some George Floyd related thing? Ridiculous.

It was probably for black lives matter. Rohit Sharma asked Babar whether Pakistan would be taking the knee. Babar said we would be placing our hand over our chest and not the knee. Than they took the knee while we placed hand over chest.

Kohli gone all woke. Now the paindu skipper has cost us the game as well.

Pretty stupid to be honest.. Pak / India needs to focus on resolving their own relationship instead of getting into world politics.

It was for Black Lives Matter movement............Seems like a huge joke considering the rampant colorism in subcontinent

Indian cricketer taking knee over American domestic murder. What a joke. Progressivism have rotted away Kohli's brain.

Virat Kohli was asked about this:

Q. This was the first time the Indian cricket team took a knee before a cricket game. I just wanted to know, when did you decide that you guys were taking the knee and what made you decide to do that?

VIRAT KOHLI: That was communicated to us by the management. The Pakistan team agreed to pay their tribute towards the same cause, and then we accepted our side of things, as well. Yeah, that's how it was decided.

Quite bizarre from the Indian players, led by Kohli. Pak players kept it classy though.

Can't find the reason even though it was a big response.

I have always found the concept of taking knees pointless. What does it achieve really? It is a waste of time.

Actually that's a good argument why they should make some gesture, it will raise awareness at home. Although I prefer the Pakistan hand over heart gesture more, it looks more genuine.

No mention of the reason? what a cop out answer. you're the captain ***

You wish they did it for the Muslims of Kashmir; the Sikh farmers; the lynching victims; or the lower castes.

But no, BLM is apparently more relevant to the people of India, which has no significant Black population.

To be honest, this was quite ironic by India, because now everyone on social media is calling Mohammad SHami a Pakistani and hes getting ahte because of his religion.

Maybe Kohli should come out and take a stand for him or the muslim minorities in his country

taking the Knee is absolutely pointless?
What about Muslim live don't they matter?
BLM is outdated waste of time.
ALL LIVES MATTER

India ditched the knee, but asserted that their stance against racism and discrimination remained unshakable.

After the toss, as the match was about to begin at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, New Zealand players took the knee, while two Indian openers, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan, remained standing at the crease. Their teammates, too, stayed put in the dug-out. The ‘non-gesture’ offered inconsistency, for India had taken the knee to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement in their T20 World Cup opener against Pakistan.

The team asserted that their stance against racism has been well-documented. “The Indian cricket team took a knee during their opening game of the (T20) World Cup and its stance against racism was well registered and documented. There’s no scope for racism or any form of discriminatory behaviour in sport,” a source close to the team told The Indian Express.

The International Cricket Council offered all teams at the ongoing tournament the opportunity to take the knee if they wished. Accordingly, the majority of the participating teams have been taking the knee before their matches. Cricket South Africa has made it mandatory for its players to follow the gesture to offer a “united and consistent stance against racism”. So there was uproar when former South Africa captain Quinton de Kock refused to follow the CSA directive and opted out of the game against the West Indies, citing personal reasons.

The South African board didn’t take any disciplinary action against de Kock, giving him the chance to change his stance instead. A moving, three-page mea culpa from the player duly followed in which the wicketkeeper-batsman wrote: “I am deeply sorry for all the hurt, confusion and anger that I have caused. I won’t lie, I was shocked that we were told on the way to an important match that there was an instruction that we had to follow, with a perceived ‘or else’. I don’t think I was the only one.”

His apology also read: “For me, Black lives have mattered since I was born. Not just because there was an international movement. I didn’t understand why I had to prove it with a gesture when I live, and learn, and love people from all walks of life every day.”

De Kock returned to the playing eleven in South Africa’s next game against Sri Lanka and took a knee.

Typical hypocrisy of Pak and Indian players. It is like rubbing salt on the wounds of those suffering in the subcontinent. Every day we here of people dying in the the name of religion in the subcontinent and these cricketers are making gestures for black people. Clean your own closet before worrying about others. I don't even know why Pak players are putting their hand on the heart.

I think they took the knee because it seemed cool the first time. Then they must have been criticised considering all the stuff going on in Kashmir and the farmers etc. They realised how stupid they looked later

And the banning of Pak players from IPL due to their nationality which is discrimination. You can't do these gestures against discrimination and hate but still indulge in it?

Yes but no one spoke up for Pakistan. A part of me thinks these westerners buy this Indian driven propaganda of Pakistan being terrorists who harm India all the time. They sympathise with India due to anti-Islamic sentiments. I could be wrong, but I don’t think there is anything to prove me wrong either.

West Indian players can still play in the IPL and the black lives matter is all about taking a knee
Not sure what discrimination against Pakistan professionals from entering into Indian fields has to do with taking a knee

Some News reported that 6 mosques were destroyed and 5 Muslims were killed by Hindu fanatics in the yesterday’s Tripura attacks in India.

India should be one of the last places to take the knee for BLM. We discriminate our own people based on their skin color, religion, caste and what not. Our biggest stars sell fairness creams for God’s sake!
