Why haven't India and Pakistan been able to produce Heavyweight boxers?

I mean both countries have individuals and people who have excellent physiques, body building physiques, people who weigh around 215-250 lbs, the basics of boxing training techniques i.e. the punching bag, the skip rope, the jogging, the speed drills, sparring in the ring are well known to everyone.

Is boxing a very expensive sport to pursue where someone cannot afford to get into? Is it because both countries do not have good boxing coaches or facilities? Is it hard to attract quality international coaches over our part of the world?

Just envision a heavyweight championship bout in the Mirage b/w a world class heavyweight boxer from India and Pakistan? That will smash all records and create mass hype, hysteria from people from both sides, will smash all PPV records as well globally

I am just surprised no one pursues the sport seriously in both the countries

You could offer a similar argument as to why even though African origin American men dominate (compared with the percentage of population in general) sports like 100m Track & Field, as well as, to a lesser extent, basketball, you don't see many at the top levels of tennis, and even less in swimming.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only time that a black man has won Wimbledon, the US Open or the Australian Open singles titles was the late Arthur Ashe in all three cases, the last some 42+years ago.

That's the main reason. Sports aren't considered respectable professions for most desis, and boxing probably the least of all.

Boxing in general is not popular in Pakistan so the weight class doesn’t matter. We don’t see many Pakistani boxers in other weight classes too. Also there is a problem with lack of funds. Just look at Muhammad Waseem, he moved to another country to start his professional career because no one in Pakistan wants to sponsor him.

Not really an interest in boxing.. Also people like Vijender Singh turned pro too late if he had turned pro after 2008 olympics he could have been a decent name..

Otherwise boxing is a sport which is mainly popular in Haryana only it is but popular in Assam, Manipur etc but in those states you don’t get heavyweights mostly fast flyweights.. Also there are very very very few boxing gyms which train you at basics of boxing so even if someone may have an interest they won’t find any training..
