Just saw England cricketer Jack Leach for the first time. Noticed he got a moustache which made me think why is the men’s moustache so out of fashion these days. It was so much in before the 90s.

Now you have more men with a moustache and beard but not moustache only.

I wonder why.

It's not. You need to have the confidence and facial hair density to pull it off.

Grow it out, once it's long and starts to grow downwards covering your upper lip get some wax and curl it up as well as at the ends.

If anything they are coming back as the beard fad starts to die off.

A lot of people grow a tash in November to participate in Movember - help raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.

few of the reasons the tash lost it's popularity was because it was hard to maintain and made you look gay.

Because it takes too much time and unless you are dedicated to it, plays an integral part of your persona.... Doesn't worth it.

I have never really liked moustaches, in most cases it just looks like you have a piece of fur stuck to your lip. The exception to this is when someone has very prominent front teeth which makes the top lip stick out like Freddie Mercury. A 'tache can balance that out.

It actually does suit some. For example can you imagine how boyish David Boon would have looked like without it? :D

That's mostly because we have never seen David Boon without a mustache. Now imagine Ricky Ponting with a mustache like David Boon :D

This is all I could find:

Imagine Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor without moustache. Infact you can watch Anil in the movie Lamhe and moochmunda Tiger Shroff to get an idea. :inti

Anil Kapoor is one of the few people who does carry the moustache very well. There must be certain faces which favour it.

Especially Jackie wears it well. A few of a GOAT moustaches are

Burt Reynolds
Nick Offerman in Parks and Recreations
Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood.
Sam Elliot
Freddie Mercury

and of course Borat.

Also Omar Sharif come to think of it.

You either look like a...

1) Middle-aged barefoot and bankrupt uncle who happens to be a rake past midnight.

OR

2) A 19th century Victorian policeman who time travelled to find Jack the Ripper.

i dont think its that moustaches have gone out of fashion, i think having a beard is a lot more acceptable now.

i remember when i started keeping a beard everyone would comment that its scruffy, its a mullah beard etc, but now im guessin a huge proportion of men now have beards, which wasnt really acceptable, even in a professional environment for a long time since the early 20th century to maybe 10 odd years ago.

on a side note i think u need a really manly jaw to carry 'tache only look.

A 19th century Victorian policeman who time travelled to find Jack the Ripper.

Why would a Victorian-era policeman travel through time to find Jack the Ripper, when Jack the Ripper was active during the Victorian era itself? He would be better off traveling spatially, to Whitechapel, London.

Testicular cancer and also raise awareness when it comes to male mental health and the high suicide rate amongst this gender in the UK.

Because he couldn’t find him then. :shaq

During one particular murder, the police were literally (two to three) minutes late.

Its got a bad rep, its got a strong association with creepiness and pedophilia these days.

Someone needs to revamp it and give it a positive spin.

I guess only famous celebrities or people with large fan following can change this by growing a moustache.

It's partially because drinking yogurt became mainstream (not a reason but let's go with it)

There used to be this person in an office I worked, a pretty high profile figure, and he loved his chutneys and raitas after lunch. So once he'd be done with the biryani or karahi (heavy eater indeed), he'd be found sipping zeera raita with his tache half drenched in yogurt.

That sight was by without any doubt, the opposite of whatever good this world has to offer.

I do however hope that the tache doesn't make a comeback soon, one of the benefits of not living in Pakistan now is the absence of tache. Can't complain, won't complain about its very timely and needed death.

For the first time in my life, I started growing out my mustache last year, and have persisted with it since. It is now a magnificent specimen, in the full bloom of its glory, curled at the ends. It is the envy of those who have neither the requisite robust facial hair growth nor the patience to see an endeavor through to its completion.

This thread therefore perturbs me. Mustaches are en vogue again, amongst the cool and the hip, not to mention the hipsters. How is it that you lot are so blissfully unaware of this? I must conclude that you are neither cool, nor hip. Or hipsters for that matter.

Growing moustache is very popular in Tamil culture, my dad scolded me in the harshest possible manner when I shaved off mine in college and he was someone who never raised his voice even when I did badly in exams. I don't like it, prefer beard but I am a rarity in my family circle. My GF hates all forms of facial hair, so I am clean shaven these days.

Stephen Fry looked real dashing in moustache while playing the role of General Melchett in Blackadder.

Depends on your face but the moustache is still around just that people design it differently. Depends on your features if it suits you or not. Anil Kapoor has a nice one:salute

Lol yeah I notice in Tamil culture the moustache has never really been out of fashion.

I guess as long you GF is happy its all cool :D

Requires maintenance as well. If one side screwed, whole thing goes outta whack; then whole thing needs to be shaved off. I have tried a few times then gave up.

Have seen an even more uprise in the moustache and the moustache + stubble (beardstache) trend recently, esp post Movember. Seen less beards even, esp the big Viking beard, which was the fad for the last 2 years or so.

Y'all need to get on it:

Richard from Friends looked good with it ,and Anil-Jackie Shroff obviously:

Mooch nahi, kuch nahi as they say in the deepest pind. I thought it was there to further differentiate between male and females, or else the Day of Judgement would be upon us.

Some women did not receive the memo.

Oddly at the same time until recently, a tasche was more a signifier of butch gayness in the West.

Whereas in Pakistan a decade or two back, if you were clean shaven, you might have attracted attention of people who cause earthquakes.

Real men don’t need moustaches. Boys need it to look like men :P

Unless my memory is failing me, a lot of Indian cricketers in the 90s (and Azhar Mahmood from Pakistan) used to sport moustaches!!

Just doesn't look nice on most people. Only certain people can pull off the look.
