Why PSL teams select foreign captains but other leagues don't?

Ever since inception. We have had teams in PSL who have opted to go with foreign captains.

I could understand this at the beginning for getting experience. Back then the league didn't even happen in Pakistan.

But there have been 10 season now and at least 3 out of 8 teams will be captained by foreigners.

When do you see this often in IPL, BBL or The Hundred. Where teams prefer foreigners as captain?

I don't agree that there is no Captaincy material in players in Pakistan. If that were not the case then Shaheen (A youngster when selected first as Captain) wouldn't have won Lahore 3 titles out of 4 attempts.

You have to take a punt on youngster and believe in his vision for the team. This will not only help other teams but also ultimately Pakistan.

Psl even after 10 years isnt a household name sadly.
Maybe they trust goras more or they think by being captain their marque players ll be more invested in league instead of taking it casually.
E.g., warner wouldnt care about kings but when he is captain he ll actually give his 2 cents

Sorry to burst the bubble but Pakistani captains are just not capable. Pakistani captains in fact abuse their positions as captain and don't always put the team first. For e.g. Rizwan with Multan Sultans or Babar with Peshawar Zalmi. Do you honestly think any other franchise will allow these two to open the innings. The way these two players were put in their places in the BBL by their respective franchises should have been an eye opener.

I would rather our local players learn something from these foreign captains and actually get some tough love from them.

Pakistan Cricket has move ahead of these two openers. You have to move to on too.

Because they are already foreign teams themselves for us... Lol

Jokes apart. Yeah, this is crZy... Psl should develop local captain

I'm sure all leagues have had some overseas captains. IPL has had some, Hundred had Williamson and Likely Makram, and I think Rashid Khan has captained in some leagues. It's not a Pakistani specific issue.

I think we take this issues around franchise leagues too seriously where every part of the league is a source of national pain/pride.

How many Ind captains are there now? Don't dance like a snake.

How many pakistanis in psL have won a icc trophy to be considered as good captaincy material

Current ipl has multiple indians who have won icc trophies so this comparison is as stupid as comparing overall psL with IPL

you were talking about bias, don't dance now. How many of the foreign captains have won ICC trophies? Joker.

If I remember correctly, the IPL has had numerous foreign captains

Mc Cullum
Gilchrist
Warne

Captained KKR, DC, RR as early as the first two seasons

Leadership vacuum
How will that vacuum even get filled when you don't even give a chance to the youngster? In The Hundred they just made Bethel captain in one team.

In PSL there is example of Shaheen and it worked for Lahore. In fact he has become the most successful captain in PSL history. Qalandars management deserve this reward for trusting him.

It's about putting trust in your local youngsters.

Dear Ridiculous bhai,

It’s on the basis of merit only. Once we have a genuine leadership group of mature and performing players we should ideally prioritise local captains like they did in IPL. Until then let the league mature first.

Respected Bhaijaan,

Hope this letter finds you in a good enough time.

I believe the relation between a leagues growth and youngsters progress is give and take one. PSL has had 10 years to find its feet.

Shaheen is a perfect example of a youngster who made progress for his team as a captain.

I believe this is the correct time to put trust in your young local players as captain and hand them the battalion of leadership.

Kind Regards,

Depends on which captain you are talking about,

A foreign captain won't have a regional bias that is not uncommon among subcontinent players

Joker is some one who writes rizwan is t20 champ
You said something about bias and then changed your lungi talking about ICC trophies. Rizwan is irrelevant to this discussion and FYI he won a T20 championship before Chokli.

Well depends on the team. If a team has zero local players who are capable or ready to be captain then you have to go with a foreign player as captain.

Not the worst thing to happen in Pakistan. Without PSL contribution also Pak has 10 captains in the X1 with so may conflicts and issues, creating more captains in this league is only counter productive for them.

Ideally Saim or Irfan should be the Kingsman captain, but may be the owners are more confident going with a tuk tuk gora

Irfan Niazi
Shaheen
Farhan(who captained u19)
Shamyl
Hassan
Arafat
Usama

Pcb should look among such players and try to identify their new captain

Bethel has already captained England.

Saim Ayub and Irfan Niazi for Hyderabad.

Sahibzada Farhan and Muhammad Nawaz for Multan.

What captaincy credentials does Labushagne has? Dude doesn't even captain in BBL and is not a T20I material
None of these guys have captaincy credentials, including Labuschange. Hyderabad should have made Glenn Maxwell captain.

Saim Ayub and Farhan have zero captaincy experience. And while someone like Irfan might have captained Pakistan A and on the domestic level, you can't expect franchise owners who have so much money riding on this, to take a chance on some unexperienced rookie just because they might be a good future prospect.
