Why USA fears Israel to the point of pandering?

Israel's Netanyahu invited to meet Trump at White House next week

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet US President Donald Trump at the White House next week.

Netanyahu's office said the visit would take place on 4 February and that he was the first foreign leader to be invited to the White House during Trump's second term.

A White House official confirmed there would be a meeting early next week, but said the date and time had yet to be finalised, according to the BBC's US partner CBS News.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump said Netanyahu would be travelling to Washington to meet him "very soon", without giving a specific date.

The meeting comes as an initial six-week ceasefire is being observed in Gaza after a deal was struck between Israel and Hamas to halt the war.

Trump claimed credit for getting the ceasefire and hostage release deal over the line when it was first announced, saying on Truth Social the "epic" agreement was possible only because he won November's presidential election.

The White House meeting would also come after Trump said last week that he wanted Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from Gaza, after describing the strip as a "demolition site".

Both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority condemned the proposal. Jordan and Egypt have also rejected the idea.

However, the idea of encouraging Gazans to relocate to neighbouring countries has long been pushed by hardline right-wing members of Netanyahu's government.

The January ceasefire deal has paused the war which began when Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 back to Gaza as hostages.

More than 47,350 Palestinians, the majority of them civilians, have been killed in Israel's subsequent offensive, Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry says.

Rubio discusses Gaza truce with Israel’s Netanyahu on first leg of Mideast tour

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Israel’s prime minister in Jerusalem on Sunday for talks on the Gaza ceasefire, launching a Middle East tour a day after the latest hostage-prisoner exchange.

On his first visit to the region as Washington’s top diplomat, Rubio is expected to push US President Donald Trump’s widely condemned proposal to take control of Gaza and relocate its more than two million residents.

The plan envisions redeveloping the coastal territory into the “Riviera of the Middle East” after it was devastated by more than 15 months of war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the idea during his recent White House visit, but foreign leaders have largely rejected it.

Rubio arrived hours after Hamas freed three Israeli hostages in Gaza in exchange for 369 Palestinian prisoners -- the sixth swap under the fragile ceasefire.

Negotiations on a second phase of the truce, aimed at securing a more lasting end to the war, are expected to begin next week in Doha.

The United States, Israel’s top ally and weapons supplier, has said it is open to alternative proposals from Arab governments but insists that, for now, “the only plan is Trump’s.”

Rubio is also due to visit Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with tough talks expected on Monday in Riyadh, a key player in Trump’s regional strategy.

Israel lashes out at US senator for calling Gaza blockade ‘war crime’

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has hit back at US Senator Bernie Sanders, who labelled the Gaza aid blockade a “war crime” and called for an end to US military support for Israel.

“It’s been 51 days since any humanitarian aid has entered Gaza,” Sanders said on X on Monday, citing Katz’s previous statement that “no humanitarian aid will enter Gaza” as evidence of a “war crime”.

“We must end our complicity. No more military aid for Netanyahu’s war machine,” Sanders added.

In response, Katz claimed, “Israel is acting in full accordance with international law” and said Gaza’s humanitarian situation is being “constantly monitored”.

He called on international bodies to ensure aid “bypasses Hamas” and thanked Washington for its backing.

Germany threatens steps against Israel as tone shifts over Gaza

More than half of Germans oppose weapons exports, survey finds

TURKU, Finland/BERLIN, May 27 (Reuters) - Germany's foreign minister threatened unspecified measures against Israel on Tuesday and said Berlin would not export weapons used to break humanitarian law, as he and Chancellor Friedrich Merz delivered their most severe rebuke yet over Gaza.

Germany, along with the United States, had long remained in support of Israel's conduct since the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas, even as Israel became increasingly isolated internationally. Its about-turn comes as the European Union is reviewing its Israel policy and Britain, France and Canada also threatened "concrete actions" over Gaza.

Speaking to broadcaster WDR, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned Germany's historic support for Israel must not be instrumentalised, as massive air strikes and shortages of food and medicines had made the situation in Gaza "unbearable".
Earlier, Merz criticised air strikes on Gaza as no longer justified by the need to fight Hamas and "no longer comprehensible", in comments at a press conference in Finland.

While not a complete rupture, the shift in tone is significant in a country whose leadership follows a policy of special responsibility for Israel, known as the Staatsraeson, due to the legacy of the Nazi Holocaust.

It also reflects a broader shift in German public opinion.

"Our committed fight against anti-Semitism and our full support for the right to exist and the security of the state of Israel must not be instrumentalised for the conflict and the warfare currently being waged in the Gaza Strip," Wadephul said.
"We are now at a point where we have to think very carefully about what further steps to take," he said, without giving further details.
"Where we see dangers of harm, we will of course intervene and certainly not supply weapons so that there will be further harm," he said, adding that no new weapons orders were currently under consideration.

The shift in government stance comes after calls among the junior coalition partner, the Social Democrats, to halt arms exports to Israel or else risk what the move's backers say would be German complicity in war crimes.

WORSENING HUNGER
Attacks on Gaza killed dozens in recent days, and the population of more than 2 million faces worsening hunger and starvation, according to a U.N.-backed monitor.

Efforts to revive a short-lived ceasefire that broke down in March have made little visible progress, although one regional diplomat said talks were still going on in Doha and there remained a chance for a deal.

The German comments are particularly striking given that Merz won elections in February promising to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on German soil in defiance of an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
"The massive military strikes by the Israelis in the Gaza Strip no longer reveal any logic to me - how they serve the goal of confronting terror," Merz said in Turku, Finland.

He did not reply to a question about German weapons exports to Israel. Wadephul said arms deliveries were a matter for a security council presided over by Merz, whose meetings are confidential.

The foreign ministry did not immediately reply to a further request for comment on whether Germany's next step could include halting weapons shipments.

The chancellor is due to speak to Netanyahu this week.
In his office, Merz has a picture of Zikim beach, where Hamas fighters arrived on boats during their rampage in 2023 that killed around 1,200 people - a picture he had hanging for years previously in his parliamentary office.

Israel's ambassador to Berlin, Ron Prosor, acknowledged German concerns on Tuesday but made no commitments.
"When Friedrich Merz raises this criticism of Israel, we listen very carefully because he is a friend," Prosor told the ZDF broadcaster.
Merz's comments come on top of a groundswell of opposition to Israel's actions. A survey by Civey, published in the Tagesspiegel newspaper this week, showed 51% of Germans opposed weapons exports to Israel.

More broadly, only 36% of people in Germany view Israel positively, a survey by the Bertelsmann Foundation found in May, down from 46% in the last survey in 2021.

Only a quarter of Germans recognise a special responsibility towards the state of Israel, while 64% of Israelis believe Germany has a special obligation, the survey found.

US blocks UN call for Gaza ceasefire for sixth time

The US has for the sixth time vetoed a draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council that would have demanded an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.

US deputy Middle East envoy Morgan Ortagus said the text did not go far enough in condemning Hamas or recognise Israel's right to defend itself.

All 14 other members of the Security Council voted in favour of the draft resolution - which described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as "catastrophic" and called on Israel to lift all aid restrictions.

It comes as the UN's humanitarian office warns that the last lifelines for civilians are collapsing in Gaza City as Israel expands its military offensive.

Speaking prior to the vote, Ortagus said Washington's opposition to the resolution should "come as no surprise".

"It fails to condemn Hamas or recognise Israel's right to defend itself, and it wrongly legitimises the false narratives benefitting Hamas, which have sadly found currency in this council," she said.

After the vote, UN members reacted swiftly to express their disappointment.

Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour called the US's decision "deeply regrettable and painful", saying it had prevented the Security Council from "playing its rightful role in the face of these atrocities".

Pakistan's ambassador Asim Ahmad described the veto as "a dark moment in this chamber".

"The world is watching. The cries of children should pierce our hearts," he said.

Amar Bendjama, Algeria's ambassador, apologised to the Palestinian people.

"Palestinian brothers, Palestinian sisters, forgive us," he said.

"Forgive us, because the world speaks of rights, but denies them to Palestinians. Forgive us because our efforts, our sincere efforts, shattered against this wall of rejection."

This latest UN vote came just days before world leaders gather for the UN General Assembly where Gaza will be a major topic and key American allies, including the UK, are expected to recognise an independent Palestinian state.

Meanwhile, Israeli tanks and troops are continuing to advance into Gaza City on the third day of a ground offensive, forcing thousands of people to flee.

Olga Cherevko, a spokeswoman for the UN's humanitarian office, told the BBC the situation in Gaza City is "nothing short of cataclysmic".

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

At least 65,141 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the territory's health ministry.

The ministry says another 435 people have so far died during the war as a result of malnutrition and starvation, including four over the past 24 hours.

I have not read the full thread but would like to add my two cents as to why the US or even the West in general supports Israel to the point of ridiculousness.

There are multiple factors at play here so I will list them one by one:

1. Ashkanazi Jews have the highest IQ levels in the world. This has helped them to organise in the West, such as in the US, and gain a strong foothold for centuries. It also helps that the West has ruled the world for the last 500 years. However, things are changing, with the West’s decline and China’s rise, they may not have this advantage in the coming decades as they have not penetrated China to this well since it’s so homogeneous.

2. With their unified front, organisation and their high IQ levels, they have penetrated into top industries and sectors globally, from finance to banking to law and to technology. Now I’m not into the whole anti-Semitic trope that Jews control the world, but it’s undeniable that they have a lot of people in senior positions across industries.

3. They are organised in their Zionism and support for Israel. A lot of Jews in the west, such as in the US fully support Israel and promote it, raise funds for it, donate to it and even move there. There are a lot of western Jews who even send their kids to serve in the IDF as mandatory national service when they don’t have to.

4. They have deep roots in western politics. Ashkanazi Jews have the benefit of being white in their skin colour and therefore can integrate better than any other non-white minorities. They are considered the same as non-Jewish white people and have deep affiliation in political parties. For example, we have the Labour and Conservative friends of Israel, AIPAC, as well as other organisations who all support Israel. They also fund raise and give money to politicians and political parties.

5. Judeo-Christian values and culture - there is this odd notion amongst western people that their culture is based off of this Judeo-Christian culture that doesn’t really exist and it all made up. That somehow the Christian West adopted Greek/Roman culture (which they claim they are the successors of), and incorporated it with Jewish culture and then over time it became this Judeo-Christian culture with Judeo-Christian values. That modern enlightenment values such as democracy and rule of law and free speech come from these values. It’s all nonsense but a lot of the right wing west believes in it. Even Atheists like Douglas Murray believes in it fervently. In a discussion with Ben Shapiro, he said that the loss of 15million Jews would be world ending but the loss of 15 million Christians or Muslims or Hindus, etc. wouldn’t be as bad.

6. You also have the whole extremist Christians in the west and especially in the US that believe in Jesus coming back if the Jewish temple is restored so they fully support Israel.

7. Israel is basically a US outpost in the Middle East to control affairs there and therefore, the US fully supports it.

8. The west also consider Israel to have the same values as them since it is a so called democracy with its legal system, etc.

9. They hate Islam and Muslims so will always support Israel over us.
