We all see the criticism of the low crowd attendances in the UAE despite the fact their are 1 million + Pakistanis living there. The UK has a similar Pakistani diaspora population (and who are better off than their UAE counterparts) will we see big numbers during the tests or will it be mostly a Anglo British crowd?

Not for Tests.

I guess most are working class with 9-5 jobs and won't/can't be willing to take day(s) off to watch a cricket match.

I would have definitely watched if I was in the UK at this time.

I think most hard working Pakistani's get priced out for Test matches as they are generally marketed to to the middle class so they come and spend loads of money in the bars and food.

T20 will be a sell out in Manchester, ODI's will be so so if its the weekend it will be a decent turn out.

^the test tickets tickets are pretty reasonable compared to the t20 which from experience are much more less value for money

i believe the t20 is on a weekday and already sold out

so i dont think price or time has anything to do with it, the local pakistani population much prefer going to the limited overs matches than watching a day of test cricket

im going to the old trafford test, preferred that to the limited overs to keep away from the embarrasing droves and to get a final glimpse of the likes of younis and misbah

People will go on Saturday or Sunday I suspect. But yea number will be small compared to those who go for ODIs.

For tests probably not. On the last tour in 2010 vs Australia they even let people in for free on the 5th day at headingley yet still the numbers in attendance were poor.

Despite the bravado and chest thumping by the Test cricket fan-boys the game just isn't attractive enough to most cricket fans who prefer the shorter format of the game.

I'm going first day of series. Then fourth day Edgbaston.
We should have planned a pp'ers corner beforehand

The "Pakistani lantern" (see Facebook) is the character that I dress up as.

I will be going to Lord's on Saturday as I requested tickets in the ballot.

Might well go to the other 3 tests too!

I plan to attend the Leeds ODI.

I love tests the most :)

I work not far from Lords, might go down on Friday afternoon, how easy & cheap is it to get ticket at the gate?

I'll go to old Trafford as its nearby and I can use the members lounge but haven't bought tickets in advance for other grounds as they are very pricey. Sometimes it's good to wait and see the match and weather situation. If we are falling like skittles I prefer to rant in front of the telly.

That said if there is a mid week crunch final day I might just travel down to Lords.

The LOI series will be well attended. Doubt there will be as many for the test series.

no they will not.
but come WI series and they ll complain again about poor attendence in UAE

Looking forward to attending a day at tests 3 and 4, more time off work and I'd probably have attended more days...

Chance to see a dangerous Pakistan side in test whites, touring against a formidable England, is just too good :)

Have been to LOIs in the past (Rose Bowl in 2006 was an epic game), however this will be the first time seeing a test, pretty psyched.

Got Day 3 tickets to Lords- applied and got them in the ballot.

As a neutral be a fascinating game

My cousins and uncle who reside in the UK will go for the third test.I would have liked to go see it myself but couldn't get the visa.

Attending the London games:

1. This Saturday for the first test at Lords
2. Both Saturday/Sunday for the Oval Test
3. ODI at Lords

Did the same last time Pakistan toured (was present during the fateful day when the spot-fixing news broke out). I prefer tests but hardly see much attendance from fellow Pakistani fans which is a shame. For the ODIs you get more attendance including the unruly, rude boy crowds who who mostly behave like imbeciles!

It would be hypocritical on most english pakistani fans part if they dont go to the stadium to watch the match and coming August complain about lack of attendance in the UAE.

I am going to Lords today & tomorrow and will attend the Old Trafford one as well.

LOIs will get good support from Pakistani diaspora but Tests won't most Pakistanis are working class and don't have the money or time to watch Test Cricket. Also Cricket has reduced a lot in popularity amongst British Pakistani youngsters especially due to the state of our team being poor in recent years in LOIS and the fact that other sports like Football Boxing MMA have trumped Cricket in terms of interest and support amongst Younger British Pakistanis.

BBC TMS: 29,015 attended yesterday’s play – a record for an England vs Pakistan Test match at Lord's.

I will be attending tomorrow at Lords. I will also be attending day 4 at Edgbaston along with all 5 ODI's and the T20.

It is hard to attend matches when you are working full time but I am trying my best to attend as many days as I can.

England stadiums are tiny, they usually fill up quite easily.

And Lord's is apparently the 'largest'.

Small stadiums or whatever. England has the classiest test crowd. True appreciators of the game.

Yes, that was the point of the thread.

How many countries actually regularly sell out their larger stadiums in tests though? A full 30,000 seater is generally going to create a better atmosphere than a half empty 60,000 seater.

I was there yesterday in the upper Compton stand and on tv signalling four when Asad hit a boundary. I was wearing green and white face paint!!

There is likely to be more Pakistanis in the crowd for the Manchester and Birmingham Tests.

Also traditionally Pakistanis have tended to favour the limited overs formats.

Surprised to see no one days or t20s in Birmingham

Today is quite poor
I am here. Hollies stand aside it's even support , so would take blame pak for the poor support only

Tickets available at the gate tomorrow for only 16 pounds (and a fiver for kids) - I'm sure that will see a lot of Pakistani fans flocking to the ground.

More Pakistanis here today than you get for a full Test match in UAE :P

Sadly most Pakistanis only watch the hit and giggle stuff. I have no time for that and don't give a stuff about it. Pakistan will probably be whitewashed in them anyway. No idea how many games there are.

With the 2nd test of the 2018 series being held during Ramzan I guess the numbers will be down once again.

So, who here on PP will be going to any of the games?

Not many for the Tests as it will be working or studying days. One dayers are always packed.

I would have loved to go to Lords but I cant enjoy a day out if Im fasting. I also wanted to travel to Ireland but the same situation.

Watching test cricket in England is lot of fun.

Boy do the brits drink a lot though.

I won't go because of fasting and work. But the crowds will be there anyway, largely english fans as is always the case in tests. Just wish there were ODIs.

No. Like all desi fans of the current generation, they like T20s almost exclusively. Those born in the 1980s will be the last ones who grew up on test cricket. As they age (they are 30-40 now) and fade, test cricket will go with them.

I can talk cricket with these guys (work with a couple people that age, English & Desi roots) but the folks below 30 are ignorant about test cricket.

So, how many PPers were at Lord's? I wish I could have gone, I don't live far at all from London :(

I know our very own Saj was at the game

Would've been nice to go, but like a lot of people Ramadan makes attending a lot more difficult.

Just glad the World Cup matches next year will be outside of Ramadan
:imad

I was there on Saturday with my brother. First time gone to see a match live while fasting. I enjoyed it overall, it helped that the team was doing well, but the sun was out all day and it got tough towards the end of the day.

Also nice to see Lords making an effort for the Muslim fans with the prayer area which was full. Shame couldn't have any of the food as the chicken was all halal.

Will be very difficult during ramadan (only reason I havent gone , and I go most summers).

Plus prices are ridiculously high and only getting worse, so if you ever go to a test at Lords or the oval, you will mainly see middle class white men. Its hardly a casual spectator sport.
