During his campaign, Trump talked about stuff like making America great again, build the wall to keep the Mexicans out, ban Muslims from entering the United States, Bomb and take the oil from ISIS etc.

Will Donald Trump honor his pre-election pledges or was it all talk for just getting the votes?

These are the questions he will have to answer for next 4 years.

- I dont think that wall can be built. It is even technically not possible.

- I dont think Trump can ban all Muslims..First thing would be to rectify everyone's religion when he or she is entering USA. (Best of luck Pakistanis you have religion on your passport)

- Bomb and Take Oil from ISIS and also be friends with Russia well we will see about that.

- Also Hilary should be behind bars soon so this is also something he promised.

America great again ??? when was America great before ??

Of course not. Those were deliberately moronic speeches aimed to get the votes of the moronic masses.

to be fair, trump did pivot from 'banning muslims' to 'banning people from certain countries'

Also expect those who backed moronic speeches to start backtracking after giving their support to those same policies.

(Not necessarily related to the post above).

I look at this way. People expected really bad things from Modi given his Gujrat background, but since his election, what has he done against Indian Muslims at large?

Nothing. Just the usual fear mongering in every election anywhere in the world.

I look at this way as well. It's one thing to do whatever you want when you are a regular citizen or a candidate in the US elections. But can you afford to do that as US president? Richard Nixon won a powerful landslide election victory in the US and even had a republican dominated congress and senate, one watergate scandal and he was on his way to impeachment.

If trump is careless and not careful and if he does or says whatever is on his mind without even thinking about the consequences of his decisions on himself and his country, i do not rule a potential impeachment.

No that comparison doesn't hold any water at all.

Firstly Modi was accused of abetting or being involved directly or indirectly in crimes commited when he was chief minister of his home state back in 2002. The evidence was obviously circumstantial but with evidence being destroyed many feel he got away with it, especially his victims.
It was not because people feared him but more of a case that he shouldn't have been on the ballot paper given what he was accused of.

Where as Trump has not been accused of any crime as such (though he's been suspected of tax evasion) but he has used fear as a weapon so it remains to be seen if he carries out any of the demands he has made like building a wall across the Mexican border.

My point is that it is very easy to create fear, it is another thing to say whatever is on his mind and to do whatever he wants to do as US president. This is not Nazi Germany where there is just one man rule, this is the USA with a strong US judicial, legal system, a congress, senate and ofcourse US society overall is very humane.

Richard Nixon won a landslide victory, he had a republican majority in Congress and Senate and he still got impeached in one year from assuming office.

It is one thing as a private citizen and an electoral candidate to say whatever comes to your mind or to do whatever you want but a totally different thing when you are US president. The US has to get along with the rest of the world, even Muslim countries, the effects of forcibly deporting all American Muslims back to their country of origin or refusing Muslims from immigrating to the US, to study and work in the US will have catastrophic implications for the US economy and US relations in the Muslim world.

Can the US survive without Muslim nations and Muslims in the US and outside the US?

Nothing will happen.

Trump is no dumb man. He did not become a Billionaire by being dumb. He is as smart as it gets. People like him, Mark Cuban and other self made billionaires are extremely smart.

I laughed when Media and many people called him dumb and clownish and many other choicest names.

Politicians say many things to rile up people and make them vote in favor of them. What Trump said is what many White Americans secretly want. They may not say it on your face. But they are worried that their country is being taken over by foreigners who do not want to accept American way of life.

Every election, BJP says "We will build Ram Mandir"! But has it ever happened? Congress says Roti Kapda Makan during every election. What have they done?

People are dumb. Not politicians. Especially smart people like Trump who know what to say when.

Watched his Speech after winning the elections. Never once he said anything about building a wall or kicking our Muslims from US or stopping them from coming. That rhetoric was only until the polls. Since voting is over, he will not use those words every again. Some may question him from time to time about his pre-election promises. He will keep saying that he is considering them and will do nothing.

Trump will do what Obama or his predecessors did. Just spend 4 years in office and hope for a re-election.

You realise the majority of Trump's wealth he inherited from his father (between two and three hundred million anyway) and he's filed for bankruptcy dozens of times right??

I dont buy into the "He's gonna doom the world" rhetoric but please, if he's a self made billionaire then I'm Virender Sehwag

Filing for Bankruptcy is part of business. Some decisions click and some fail.

Trump said what he had to say to garner votes. Now see him do nothing about those pledges.

Most of it was trash talk/fear mongering. Scary that his followers believe his words. Fun times ahead though.

:)) Trump is not a billionaire, his net worth is not more than $200 million, he's just a compulsive liar who likes to fake it. Even Mark Cuban exposed the lie that Trump was a socalled "billionaire"

Guess what?! The Tea party republicans have the house, senate and now the judiciary!

The Muslim ban he only mentioned in the primaries and later got away from it. That was never possible and Trump knew it. That was just another way for him to dominate the news cycle which eventually led to his Presidency. The wall will be build or at least there will be a major continueos operation launch against illigal immigration which is was the corner stone of his campaign and a lot of folks support. The deportation of illigal immigrants would probably remain the same number as Obama is deporting per month maybe slightly higher.

As for Trade policy that is something Trump has disagreed with since 80s, so there will be major changes on that front. Also there will be major push back against companies and major corporations who ship jobs overseas. As for foreign policy specifically towards Middle East a lot of people who even dislike Trump agree about his insistence that first you have to eliminate Terrorist organizations like Daesh before toppling government like Obama did in Libya and Bush in Iraq.

No, he reiterated that even after the primaries and nomination, he just rephrased it by saying he would ban migration of Muslims from Muslim countries that are "linked with terrorism", so bad news for Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Saudi, Qatar, Somalia, Libya and Turkey.

Doesn't mean a lot, Nixon also enjoyed a majority, didn't prevent him from getting impeached. Trump already alienated plenty of Republicans during the election. If he doesn't mind himself and be careful, if he makes any careless personal or unilateral decision as President of the US which hurts the country badly he is going to risk impeachment

Such a move would have severe repurcussions. America cannot survive alone in this world alienating Muslims worldwide.

Trump won't ever get impeached, if he can get elected after child sexual abuse allegations, nothing more can bring him down.

They actually can. I used to think he was a joke and was only half-serious. I think people opposed to Trump need to take what he says seriously, it cost us the election.

The spotlight on him as US president is going to be 10 times more. Politics is a very unforgiving game. People have elected him with huge expectations, if he does not deliver, if he is seen as backtracking, if any scandal opens up as US president and Trump does not deal well with things not going his way. Becoming US president is one thing, surviving in that seat, doing your job properly is a whole different game altogether.

Trust me, its not going to happen. If the Middle east withdraws all its money invested in US Banks, if America bans tourism from Muslim countries, bans students from Muslim countries, Bans talent from Muslim countries and drives American muslims away from America, it will wreck the local economy big time.

Does it matter? Pakistan will be the easiest target, trump will be ten times worse for Pakistanians than other muslims.

Can't blame him for doing that tbh.

Buddy don't get caught up on all the hysteria of the election season. Muslims are not some insignificant tribe who you can curtail. A ban will never happen. My uncle who is as devout of a Muslim as they come has worked for Trump for more than two decades believe me the Donald Trump that you saw on TV and newspapers is not the person who is gonna Govern the US. You will be surprised by how effective of a President Trump will be the same way a lot of peole are surprised by his victories.

There's a lot of uncertainty.

Donald Trump's likely choice for Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, spent 17 years at Goldman Sachs - https://t.co/Gos6cKk57X

Not exactly an appointment from a so-called anti-establishment champion of the downtrodden working class is it ?

His one big commitment - "Making America great again" - That's a huge ask; but I hope he succeeds. Not the way some right wing Trump supporters see it, but making America great in the "American" way with American values at the core. Some other points brought up by OP are just election rhetoric.

build the wall to keep the Mexicans out : Firstly Mexicans, even the illegal immigrants are valuable part of the United States ecosystem. But even otherwise, building a wall is not feasible. Plus if you listen to the argument of Mexico paying for it, that's not gonna happen in next 50 years. So forget it !

Ban Muslims from entering the United States: If he just looks back at the contribution of Muslim immigrants to the US economy he would drop that idea right away. Not gonna happen. He could stop people from a particular country though. But I am sure immigration department is already doing that job efficiently.

Bomb and take the oil from ISIS: This may be feasible to some extent; but I guess US and its citizens are tired of wars. The country needs a break from constant wars. Even if he gets to this agenda, I don't see him doing so any time soon.

Might be worth reflecting on what American values are at this point and how Trump can turn things around to bring America back in line with them.

Sky: President-elect Donald Trump is going to select Exxon Mobil chief executive Rex Tillerson as his Secretary of State.

Haha there's your anti-globalisation, champion of the working class for you. Don't say you weren't warned.
