Man City have activated the 21 year-old Borussia Dortmund wonderkid's £51.2m release clause to obtain his services from next season.

Manchester City can confirm that we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland to the Club on 1st July 2022.

The transfer remains subject to the Club finalising terms with the player.
— Manchester City (@ManCity) May 10, 2022

This is a scary, scary signing. Man City, who scored 89 league goals this season in 35 games without a striker, are now getting one of the world's hottest goalscorers for a ridiculously low fee.

His stats over the last 3 seasons:

League:

- 80 matches
- 77 goals
- 25 assists

- Bundesliga Player of the Season 2020/21
- 4 Bundesliga POTM's

Champions League:

- 19 matches
- 23 goals
- 3 assists

- UCL Top Scorer 2020/21
- UCL Forward of the Season 2020/21

All from a 6'4" striker born in this millennium. Scary indeed.

How do you think he will get on? Will he find it difficult to adjust? How many goals will he score? Can he lead Man City to the European glory they crave?

Vote and discuss.

As if they need another match winner :D

Looks like the real thing and will do well.

Just another 5 goals for City tonight, taking them to 94 goals in 36 games.

Might break the scoring record with Haaland next season.

Yes, absolutely.

City are going to be a fearsome prospect next season with Haaland lining up through the middle.

Haaland is the missing piece in the jigsaw for Man City and the very reason why they have yet to win the CL in recent years.

Love or hate Man City, you have to be happy to see Haaland come and showcase his talent in the Premier League.

Scoring like this at the age of 21. He will be a true world-beater by the time he reaches his prime.

Manchester City are delighted to confirm the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
The 21-year-old will join the Club on 1 July after penning a five-year deal which keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027.

The son of former City player Alfie, who signed almost 22 years ago to the day, Haaland junior is widely regarded as one of Europe’s best strikers and arrives at the Club with a formidable goalscoring reputation following impressive spells at Molde FK, Red Bull Salzburg and Dortmund.

A 21-cap Norwegian international, Haaland scored 86 goals in 89 games in two-and-a-half seasons with the Black and Yellows, winning the German Cup and the Bundesliga Player of the Season award in 2020/21.

“This is a proud day for me and my family,” he told mancity.com after completing his move.

“I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons. You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.

“There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep is one of the greatest managers of all-time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfil my ambitions.

“I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. This is a great move for me and I can’t wait to get started in pre-season.”

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “We have been monitoring Erling for several years now, so we are delighted to bring him here to Manchester City.

“He is a huge talent and has been one of the best strikers in Europe over the last few seasons. His goalscoring record is exceptional and his performances at Borussia Dortmund and in the Champions League in particular have proved he can succeed at the highest level.

“Erling has everything we want in a striker and we are certain he will excel in this squad and this system.

“His rise has been remarkable, but he is still only 21. His best years are ahead of him and we are confident he can get even better working with Pep.

“This is a very exciting signing for our club, and I am sure our fans will enjoy watching Erling perform in this team.”

Haaland shirts will be made available once his squad number is confirmed in due course.

Everyone at Manchester City welcomes Erling to the Club and wishes him the best of luck throughout his time here.

He single handedly won Norway the match against Sweden yesterday, 2 goals and 1 assist, beast!

City are so good at creating chances and he is excellent at finding the net, this will be fun. Especially when he is born in Leeds and plays for Norway, he is very relateable.

After missing out on main target Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid are already planning on triggering the reported 150m euro (£128m) release clause in the contract of Manchester City's newly acquired Norway attacker Erling Haaland in 2024 (AS)

I don't expect miracles from him in the first season. Next season Man City won't win the ECL either:))):))):)))

Erling Haaland made a bang during his debut for Manchester City against Bayern Munich, scoring the game's only goal after just 11 minutes on the pitch.

Horrible debut.

VVD had him in his pocket all match. Hardly had a kick and then near the end he missed an absolute sitter.

Things can only get better.

Seemed off the pace and had a poor game. Was made to look very mediocre on this occasion.

Clearly Haaland will be very difficult to defend against for the mid and lower table sides in the PL, and I would expect him to put a few goals past my own team Leeds this season.

Whether he is a successful signing or not for City will ultimately be judged on performances against other English clubs in the top six & also in the CL.

Erling Haaland: Manchester City striker not concerned about settling in the Premier League after difficult Community Shield debut

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland says he is not concerned about settling in the Premier League following his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.

The Norwegian striker made his debut for Pep Guardiola's side in Sunday's Community Shield match against Liverpool at the King Power Stadium and endured a frustrating evening, missing a golden chance from six yards in an eventual 3-1 defeat.

As the reigning champions' marquee signing ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, the 22-year-old carries a weight of expectation, yet he is relaxed about the possibility it may take time to adapt to a new league.

"We will see about settling in," he said in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports' Geoff Shreeves.

"People can take time, people can come directly into it. We have to see, but I'm not concerned. That's life as a footballer - you have to live with it.

I wrote on this forum many years ago, this man is almost the perfect English premier league striker, powerful , tall, great movement and brilliant finishing.

Only a few defenders can handle him ,VVD being one.

However it doesnt mean Man City are now unbeatable.

He could end up getting 5 or 6 goals in one game v some jobber side like Man Utd or Bournemouth haha.

This guy is the perfect athlete, almost as if he was designed in a lab. Tall, powerful, quick. He is going to rip apart this league for many years to come.

A standing ovation for Haaland
Man City 3-0 Bournemouth

No home debut goal for Erling Haaland, who was clearly desperate to get on the scoresheet, but he does get a standing ovation from the Etihad crowd as he comes off for Julian Alvarez.

Haaland's assist for Ilkay Gundogan's goal on 18 minutes was with his first touch of the game by the way, so he still made quite an impact.

He will have more goal involvements than anyone else this season, one suspects.

A hat-trick for Haaland as Man City come back from 2-0 down again to win. This man is a different beast

What a beast! Just enjoying the way Haaland and Ødegaard are performing in PL.

Four games, six goals and a Premier League hat-trick - is Erling Haaland "the final piece in the jigsaw" for Manchester City in their quest for Champions League glory?

The Norway striker arrived at City from Borussia Dortmund with the guarantee of goals in the summer, and has now scored 161 times in his past 148 starts for club and country.

Haaland has remarkably scored 13 hat-tricks in that time.

And his 19-minute treble on Saturday helped City turn another potential home defeat by Crystal Palace into a comfortable 4-2 win, earning him a standing ovation when he was substituted late on.

But having reached three quarter-finals, the semi-finals and one final in the past five seasons, could he be the man to get Pep Guardiola's side over the line in European football's elite club competition?

Erling's efficiency
Haaland's ruthless efficiency in front of goal has been a key aspect of City's early Premier League matches.

In the club's opening victory at West Ham, Haaland came away from London Stadium with two goals - despite having just 32 touches of the ball.

While City won easily, against Bournemouth he was limited to just eight touches and did not see the ball for 27 minutes in the second half.

However, the problem for defenders as Palace found out to their cost, is he is capable of exploding into life at any second - his three-goal burst against the Eagles coming from seven shots and just 16 touches overall.

Haaland's physical qualities, anticipation and acceleration were all evident at Etihad Stadium on Saturday with his goals coming from a header, a tap-in and a powerful run between defenders that was finished off by a cool finish.

"He came for that. When you have a feeling he is not involved in the game he is always there," Guardiola said.

"As a striker it is incredible. He does not touch the ball, but he has a feeling the ball is there and he is always involved.

"He is there to score from John Stones' effort - the sense of the striker is there.

"And the third with the ball to his feet, he used his body - he put the ball in the net somewhere the keeper cannot save it. Look at his numbers - it is astonishing. Erling has done this all his life. Everywhere he has been he has scored goals."

The Norwegian was the fastest and youngest player to reach 20 Champions League goals, and has a current ratio of 1.21 goals per game in the competition with 23 goals in 19 appearances.

Haaland by numbers

Club/Country Appearances Starts Goals Hat-tricks
Norway 21 20 20 2
Molde 50 28 20 1
Red Bull Salzburg 27 17 29 5
Borussia Dortmund 89 79 86 4
Manchester City 4 4 6 1
Total 191 148 161 13

His arrival at City has seen Guardiola revert to using an orthodox central striker, having won last season's Premier League title without one.

It has already paid dividends for Haaland, who is the division's top scorer, and a player former Newcastle and England forward Alan Shearer says is capable of scoring more than 30 goals.

"When you have someone as good as him, that frees up other players - and that is why they will be so difficult to play against," Shearer told BBC Sport.

"That is why he should be looking to score 30, 35, 40 goals, and I think he will do that because of the amount of chances they create.

"For so long, City had been playing without that focal striker. There is no doubt he is seen as the final piece in the jigsaw to take them over the line in the Champions League."

Only eight forwards have scored 30 goals or more in a Premier League campaign - Andy Cole, Shearer (three times), Kevin Phillips, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez and Mohamed Salah - but if Haaland continues on his present trajectory that target is well within reach.

At this rate Haaland will also reach the 18 Premier League goals scored by his father Alf Inge by 20 October when City face Arsenal.

"[My dad] will probably say he had more goals in the Premier League than me so I will chase that!" he said.

"These games are why I'm here - to turn things around when there are difficult times. Amazing feeling to score a hat-trick."

Oh look who has made an appearance.

Says they guy who predicted Messi would score 25+ goals at PSG in his first season, when Messi ended up with 6. Genius indeed.

It’s early days yet, don’t get too excited, it was a hat-trick vs. Crystal Palace.

We will judge at the end of the season.

Until then, I’m sure you will go into hibernation.

:)

Tbh Messi season wasn’t bad. He was highest assist maker in the league despite playing on 20 odd games.

Man City 1-0 Nottingham Forest

That goal just underlined Erling Haaland's strength.

The Norwegian was having his shirt pulled as he moved to get on the end of Phil Foden's cross.

But it didn't affect him whatsoever. He just kept going and arrived at just the right time to turn home his seventh goal of the season.

Good luck trying to stop him. What a player.

GOAL - Manchester City 3-0 Nottingham Forest
Erling Haaland (38 mins)

Just give him the Golden Boot.

You youngster beauty! Forhåpentligvis er dette bare starten på noe stort!

What do you think of him bro, he is so good to watch, very clinical and eye catching

When you play in such at team, you will score a lot of goals as a forward/striker.

But he has all the tools bro, the man is solid as a house. Tall, Strong, Powerful, Quick(enough), Intelligence and huge determination. Haaland has been training for this moment since he was a small child.

Im not sure he will score over 30 PL goals because its the toughest league but has started on fire, so could well do.

He was bought in to win the Champions League, if he fails , City have failed. You can be Messi, Ronaldo, Salah, Haaland, Benzema you and your team need a lot of luck to win the CL.

Haaland has taken to the EPL like a duck to water. He's delivering in bucket loads already as we can all see. For sure it helps when Man City can just buy the EPL like the common person does a loaf of bread. One would expect Haaland to score regularly being surrounded by so many world class players.

He will be below expectations this season.

EPL is a totally different kettle of fish.

As I said, genius.

As I said, genius.

Nothing compared to your genius.

38 faster bowlers than Nasim Shah in Indian domestic circuit.
Pritvi Shaw is the next Tendulkar.
Mikel Arteta is the next Pep.
Jack Grealish is the next Giggs.
Messi will score 25 + in the farmer's league.

To name but a few of your ridiculous and preposterous predictions.

I am happy to eat humble pie, but you need a pasting. Which might explain why you have been silent of late.

The 22-year-old attacker, who arrived at the club from Borussia Dortmund this summer, scored his 10th goal in six Premier League fixtures as he continued his fine start to life under Pep Guardiola.

City failed to get a shot on target during the first half at Villa Park, however patience was the name of the game as 50 minutes in Kevin De Bruyne whipped a ball into the box for Haaland to convert.

The striker’s effort saw him match a Premier League record set by Newcastle United legend Micky Quinn who bagged 10 goals his first six top flight appearances.

Erling Haaland's dad explains why his son picked Man City over Real Madrid

The 22-year-old has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water so far, having scored 10 goals in just six league appearances for the Blues. Haaland's latest strike came against Aston Villa on Saturday evening to give Pep Guardiola's side the lead.

However, City could not hold onto the advantage as Leon Bailey netted a superb strike 15 minutes from time to ensure that the points were shared at Villa Park. Haaland's arrival was welcomed by Blues fans as the prolific Norwegian followed in his father's footsteps to play for the club.

Despite the obvious links to City, the 22-year-old did have strong interest from other teams, including Carlo Ancelotti's La Liga giants. However, in a new documentary, Haaland Senior explained why his son decided to move to the Etihad.

Speaking on ViaPlay's 'Haaland: The Choice', he explained: "We had established a first criterion which was: ‘Who needs a number nine?’ Manchester City had 10/10 at this level, it was the perfect option.

"Real, we gave him more of a five or a six out of 10 because there is the way Karim Benzema currently plays. And we wondered if they were also going to sign [Kylian] Mbappe."

As it happened, Real didn't sign Mbappe either, as the Frenchman committed his future to PSG. Haaland is likely to make his Champions League debut for City on Tuesday night when the Blues travel to Sevilla.

Erling Haaland is ready.

Ready to learn from Pep Guardiola, ready to become the most marked man in the Premier League, and ready to add his 'little bit of extra fire' to one of the biggest rivalries in modern football. He is also on time for this interview — his first major sit-down since joining Manchester City in the most high-profile transfer of the summer window — and jokingly puts that down to having spent the last three years in Germany as he bounds onto the training pitch.

Haaland exudes the confidence of a 21-year-old that has scored 135 goals in 196 appearances to become the most in-demand striker in world football, but he is already focused on proving that his latest career decision will be as spectacularly successful as his previous ones have. Forget finding a house or planning birthday celebrations, he is more interested in a good pre-season that will set him up to hit the ground running in English football.

This was not Haaland's first opportunity to come to the Premier League; he has had offers before — notably from City's neighbours United in December 2019 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperately wanted to be reunited with the goal machine he had nurtured at Molde — but always sensed a better option elsewhere. Despite being coveted by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich this summer, this time the forward felt the stars finally aligned with a move back to the club he supported as a boy cheering on his dad.

"Three years ago City didn't want me because they had [Sergio] Aguero up front so then there was no choice about coming to Man City. Basically, I felt more going to the other place than coming here to England. I could have come here a lot of times in my career but I felt the other place and I think it was a really good choice," Haaland told the Manchester Evening News.

"I have made perfect choices ever since I went to Molde, then Salzburg and Dortmund. I'm not complaining about that.

"I knew that my father played at City and I was born here but moving back to England is a bit special. When I talked with my mum she wanted me to move to England because she lived here for over 10 years so it's nice. We always went on vacation over here to watch games and to be in England because we liked it.

"And I think I can achieve what I want here. We have all the things together that can make something big happen and I want to be a part of that. I want to play good football, to enjoy, to win — all these kinds of things. That's why I came."

Solskjaer sent his former protégé a cheeky good luck message this summer wishing him well on the 'wrong side of Manchester' but the pull of working under Guardiola was strong for Haaland. City's new No.9 recalls the education he received in the game from Alf Ingve Berntsen at Byrne right up to Marco Rose at Dortmund, while there is something to be said for the player's own development.

Already blessed with pace and athleticism from his mother's side and feisty football from his dad, a boy who made his senior debut aged 15 has a special trainer to work on his body weight (over 90 kilos and counting) and he still thinks his body is growing upwards as well — the City medical revealed he had shot up by another centimetre since he last checked — just in case Premier League defenders aren't alarmed enough at the prospect of having to face him.

Having watched City regularly since Guardiola arrived in 2016 though, somebody as astute as Haaland did not take long to notice how individual players were improved by working with him. The Norwegian may have looked at the peak of his powers rattling in 86 goals in 89 Dortmund games, but believes he has a much higher ceiling and is backing the City boss to bring that out of him; naturally then, he hopes Guardiola stays beyond next summer when his current deal runs out.

"Yeah, of course [I hope he stays]. You see how people develop under him, that's a huge thing and also how City play, the positive football, how much they give to English football in terms of the football they play," he said. "This is the football I wanted to be a part of. I had a good feeling about it and that's why I wanted to come here.

"I think he can add a lot of things. I'm at the start of my career at Man City but there are different things he can teach me. I've been here for a couple of days and I like the vibe. It's a good vibe and that's really important for me."

One thing Haaland will have to get used to is the expectations. Like never before, his every move will be watched on and off the pitch as opponents and rivals look to best him.

He was already the talk of the league before the transfer was officially announced — the retiring Mark Noble jibed his West Ham teammates that he would be on a beach when they were looking to tame the striker — and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was asked this week about the arrival of one of the biggest talents in the game. Those questions will keep on coming, not least because there will be more Norwegian journalists in Manchester from this summer following the exploits of one of their best exports.

City's biggest signing since Guardiola has the potential to capture the bulk of the headlines in a unit that has always been about the collective. But while he will be no shrinking violet in the dressing room, Haaland is not oblivious to what has made the Blues so successful and is happy to soak up the attention and concentration if it allows his teammates to thrive.

"I'm a relaxed guy. How I express myself [in the dressing room], I'm just trying to be myself. I say what I mean but I'm not a mean guy. For me, it's a lot about having fun and working hard and being serious. I think that's a good mix," he said.

"I think there are expectations on me but there were expectations when I came to Dortmund as well. There will always be expectations and that's ok with me, I don't think too much about it.

"If people target me, then it is more space for the others. It's not bad players I'm playing with so more space for them maybe. I don't think too much about it.

"I know people want to stop me and if someone puts five men on me it is more space for the others. As you can see, nowadays you have to have a really strong collective team to reach something and that's maybe the most important thing in today's football."

For somebody with a reputation for difficult interviews, Haaland has cut an incredibly engaging figure over the last few days — first at the City unveiling event and then here at the club's training ground as he settles into a new environment. There are some subjects he has more interest in than others obviously, and a question about his hobbies catches him off guard: "I'm a normal person that does normal things!" he starts, before thinking more about it; he will watch football if it is on, and might pick golf up again in a squad where it is a popular activity.

Ultimately though, Haaland pays attention to what he wants to, and ignores the rest — and it is clear he is excited by the new challenge of proving himself all over again. As much as he is at City to learn and develop his game, the superstar is keen to stick to what has brought him such extraordinary success at such a young age.

To the delight of City fans and the board, that includes giving something extra in big games and making his mark on a rivalry with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool that he has seen from afar with amazement.

"It's been insane to see Klopp and Guardiola pushing each other, all the players, fans, everyone," he said. "To be outside watching this, everybody talking about it, pushing each other to the very last game — it's not often that happens and I think it's really good for England and also good for the clubs to push each other to reach the next level. It's really important and it has been nice to watch.

"It's good that we push each other, that's what we want. I like it a lot.

"I played against Liverpool when I was at Salzburg, I played against City with Dortmund and it's nice and special. Everyone feels something special and that is something I live for in big games as well as the not-so big games or whatever you want to call it.

"That's something I like. I will try to bring a little bit of extra fire.

"I will try to do a lot of the things I'm good at. It's good not to overthink too much and try to do what I'm good at. I think that's a really important thing in my game, just try to do the first thing that comes to mind. Of course, we can change some things but it's also important to do a lot of the same things.

Even Zlatan would be impressed by that goal

He look amazing even his physical presence in the field looks threatening.

2 goals and an assist already, not even half time yet.

It's official, Haaland is a cyborg sent from the future to terminate other Premiership teams.

He will be below expectations this season.

EPL is a totally different kettle of fish.

Boy has he slaughtered the fish :)))

Posts like these show he deluded and out of touch with reality PL fans are.

The PL challenge means nothing. It is just hype created by PL fans who know nothing about football and don’t bother to watch other leagues.

PL is a good league but if you are a top player in your prime you would do well in this league just like you would do in any other league.

Haaland is on his way to smashing all kinds of goal scoring records, and the way he is dominating the league puts into perspective ignorant remarks like peak Messi and Ronaldo (circa 2011-2018) would not have scored so many goals in England.

Hattrick versus Man Utd today.

What a player he is.

Amazing eye for goal.

Another good hattrick and he has an assist too I think. Herlig, gutt!

Yes the country you aspire to live in.

You have quoted my post thrice, we heard you before, I am already looking for Humble pie.

Of course you ignored your predictions., But jumping for joy when piggy backing off a prediction that didn't come true.

I rather be wrong once, than be wrong ten times and desperate like you.

:)

Ten hag played right in to citys hands. Went toe to toe with them, should have played on the counter!

Erling Haaland is Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic & more superstars in one

It may have been a Manchester derby but to Erling Haaland it was just another game and another record broken.

His three goals in the 6-3 thrashing of Manchester United at Etihad Stadium ensured he became the first player to net three successive hat-tricks at home in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old is so used to scoring - and scoring hat-tricks - that he nonchalantly put his arm around team-mate Phil Foden in their post-match interview and joked they could have a match ball each after the Stockport-born forward also netted three against United.

Former United and City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel told BBC Radio 5 Live you could "see different players in Haaland" and he is like the "top strikers all in one".

"The biggest part of a good striker is patience. I played against some of the best strikers and when they go missing is when you really have to concentrate," added Schmeichel.

"The Cristiano Ronaldos, the Filippo Inzaghis of this world - they disappear then all of a sudden they get the chance.

"When you look at Haaland, you see different players. That Zlatan-like goal, and Ronaldo is in there too. You see top, top strikers in one.

"That is why he is so dangerous. He has the luxury of seeing many top strikers and they are all put into one player."

"Yeah, not bad" was how Haaland responded when Sky Sports asked him about his performance in the derby.

"We scored six goals. What can I say. To win at home, score six goals, it's nice. In the end, it's amazing. There is nothing more to say," he added.

It has often been "nice" for Haaland since joining City, and manager Pep Guardiola says his scoring statistics are "scary".

"The numbers speak for himself. He has done this before here. It is not just our way. Always we try to help him in our environment," said Guardiola.

"We have this incredible sense that he always looks starving and is so competitive. The numbers are scary."

Haaland's latest hat-trick took his tally to 17 goals and three assists in his last 11 games.

He has already scored three more in his first eight Premier League matches than Mick Quinn, Papiss Cisse and Diego Costa's previous record after 10 games.

His nine goals in his first five matches made him the top scorer in August of any Premier League season.

The Norway forward was also the first player to score in his first four away games in the Premier League and he is the youngest player to score 25 goals in the Champions League.

"I've never scored three hat-tricks in three home games before. It's amazing," Haaland told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"Confidence is good, it's always been good. After the Community Shield [defeat to] Liverpool, it was still good. It was good that this match happened and I knew I just have to be ready.

"I felt a couple of days before the Manchester derby that something special was going to happen and some special things happened so it's nice. It's these games I want to play in."

The rate at which Haaland is scoring led former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton to say on BBC Radio 5 Live that "he is a freak".

He also compared him to his former Blackburn Rovers strike partner Alan Shearer, who still holds the record of the most goals scored in the Premier League with 260.

"If Haaland hangs around, Shearer's record is going. I'm not sure Harry Kane will quite get there. This guy has got the absolute lot.

"Robbie Savage said he will get 51 goals. That is not ridiculous. If he stays fit, that is really feasible."

Former England defender Jonathan Woodgate said he had "never seen a centre-forward as clinical as Haaland" and he "has everything".

"He finds space in the box and he's devastating when he gets in there. A phenomenal, phenomenal talent. I don't see a real weakness to his game," Woodgate said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"If you want to fight with him, he'll fight with you. If you want to try and race him, he'll race you and beat you. He's got everything you could possibly want in a centre-forward.

"If Manchester City had Haaland last season, they would have won the Champions League."

But it was not just Haaland who stole the headlines on Sunday as academy graduate Foden scored his first senior hat-trick.

Aged 22 years and 127 days, he also became the youngest player to reach 50 goals under Guardiola, surpassing Lionel Messi.

"A hat-trick from a local lad is special. It is so good to see. To get a hat-trick in a derby - what more could you want?" former City defender Micah Richards told Sky Sports.

Woodgate added: "England should build their team around Foden, he is that good. What a fantastic talent."

Lifelong City fan Foden said it was a "dream come true" to net his first goals against Manchester United.

Guardiola added: "His desire, how he runs, is the main thing. He deserves to play every time and then he has quality. He is a young player he deserves everything."

Hat-trick hero Erling Haaland thinks Manchester City could have scored more goals during a 6-3 thumping of Manchester United.

Erling Haaland scored his 20th goal for Manchester City as his side swept Southampton aside to move top of the Premier League.

This man is unstoppable, he is a terminator what a joy for premier league fans

Erling Haaland was deemed to be "ridiculous" and "sublime" as he obliterated the record for fastest player to score 15 Premier League goals in Saturday's 4-0 win over Southampton.

Haaland has now scored 20 goals in 13 games for City in all competitions after his finish from Joao Cancelo's ball to finish the scoring at Etihad Stadium.

In fact 'just' scoring once in his ninth English league appearance has knocked his goalscoring rate in the league down from 1.75 to 1.67.

He became just the second City player after Sergio Aguero in 2019 to score in seven consecutive Premier League appearances.

And remarkably the £51m summer signing from Borussia Dortmund has already equalled the tally of their top league scorer in the 2021-22 title-winning season - Kevin de Bruyne.

Before this season Micky Quinn had the most goals in his first nine Premier League appearances with 11.

The quickest player to reach 15 Premier League goals was Andy Cole, who needed 15 games to do so.

Those records have been demolished.

Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, said: "It is incredible, we often use phrases like that and it's hyperbole.

"But it's not with Erling Haaland. He is quite ridiculous.

"No-one can name anyone that is anything like him. His physicality, his ridiculous pace, eye for goal - it's extraordinary."

Ex-City defender Micah Richards added: "His movement and the space he provides is just sublime. Going forward, I don't think City can improve right now."

City boss Guardiola told BBC Sport: "He scored a brilliant goal. It's an incredible weapon for us, a big threat. I am so satisfied."

Haaland has been directly involved in 42 goals in his last 24 appearances in home games for Dortmund and City (36 goals, six assists).

Riyad Mahrez, who scored one of City's other goals, said: "Haaland is part of our team, he is our striker. Like any other striker, if we can find him it's perfect because he is on fire."

So what other records has Haaland broken this season - and what else could be do before the season is out?

The Norway striker took Quinn's record (11) of most goals in his first nine Premier League games. He also took Quinn's record (10) after eight games. When he makes his 10th appearance, he will have that record too even if he does not score.

Quinn, Papiss Cisse and Diego Costa had a joint record 11 goals in their first 10 Premier League games.

His 11 goals in his first seven games were a record, as were his nine goals in his first five games. Those nine goals made him the top scorer in August of any Premier League season.

Haaland became the first player to score a hat-trick in three consecutive home games in the Premier League - against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United - although that run is over with his single against Southampton.

He is the first player to score in his first four away games in the Premier League.

Haaland has already demolished pacesetting records in the Champions League and Premier League this season.

His double in 45 minutes against Copenhagen took him on to 28 Champions League goals in 22 games.

Not only is that the record for goals in a player's first 22 games, it is the landmark for a player's first 30 Champions League games - beating Ruud van Nistelrooy's mark with eight games to add to it.

The old record for goals in a player's first 22 Champions League games was Harry Kane's 18.

He also broke a few records on his Champions League debut at Sevilla, with a double in a 4-0 win, and more with the late winner against his old side Dortmund.

Haaland became the first player to score multiple times on his Champions League debut for three different clubs - after a hat-trick for Salzburg against Genk and two goals for Dortmund against Paris St-Germain.

That took him to 25 Champions League goals in just 20 games - smashing the old record of Van Nistelrooy and Roberto Soldado, who scored 16 in their first 20 games.

He is the youngest player to score 25 goals in the competition, beating the record of Kylian Mbappe, who in turn took the landmark off Lionel Messi.

Haaland also has the record for fewest Champions League games needed to score 10, 15 and 20 goals. Nobody else has scored multiple goals in four successive appearances in the competition.

He is also the first City player to score on both his Premier League debut and Champions League debut for the club.

He had a similar start to his time in Germany. Haaland is the only player to score on his Dortmund debuts in the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League (as well as scoring in the German Super Cup).

He was the first player to hit a hat-trick on his Bundesliga debut as a substitute (coming on after 56 minutes at Augsburg).

He holds the record for most goals in his first two, three, five and six Bundesliga games games (five, seven, eight and nine goals respectively).

He took 50 games to score his first 50 Bundesliga goals, also a record - and, at 21, was the youngest player to score so many.

Haaland is the youngest player to score four times in a Bundesliga game (20 years and 123 days, against Hertha Berlin).

He barely stuck round long enough at his first three clubs to set many records - barring several Champions League landmarks with Salzburg.

He left Bryne at the age of 16 after no goals in 16 games. At Molde he netted 20 goals in 50 matches and at Salzburg he scored 29 goals - including five hat-tricks - in just 27 games.

International record? Yes, he has one of them too. His nine goals in one game against Honduras in 2019 remains a record for a Fifa Under-20 World Cup match.

He has netted 21 goals in 23 games for Norway's senior team.

Haaland could smash the record for goals in a Premier League season if he carries on like this.

The record is 34 - by Andy Cole in 1993-94 and Alan Shearer the following season. But that was when there were 42 league games.

Haaland 'only' needs 20 goals in his next 29 games to beat that.

The record for a 38-game Premier League season is Mohamed Salah's 32 in 2017-18.

Nobody has won the Premier League Golden Boot with a record of a goal a game or better. Harry Kane was closest with 29 goals in 30 games in 2016-17.

Haaland's current rate of scoring would see him end on 63 league goals.

He will need to keep scoring at roughly this rate if he wants to become the top scorer in a season in English top-flight history.

Dixie Dean netted 60 goals in 39 First Division games for Everton in 1927-28. Tom Waring is second with 49 goals for Aston Villa in the top flight in 1930-31.

He might also find it tough to match the record for the top-five European leagues under their current guise - Lionel Messi's sensational 50 goals in the 2011-12 La Liga.

The most goals scored by a player in a calendar month was Luis Suarez's 10 in December 2013. Haaland was only one goal off that mark in August but he has a good few months to try to beat that. He has four in October so far.

The most goals scored in the first 20 Premier League games by a player is Kevin Phillips' 19 and in 30 games it is Cole's 28.

Cole has the record of fewest games needed to score 30 Premier League goals (32) and it might be ambitious to think of it this season but Shearer and Cole took 45 games to score 40 goals.

Jamie Vardy has the record for scoring in most consecutive Premier League games with 11. Haaland is on seven.

Shearer netted a record five hat-tricks in 1995-96. Haaland already has three.

The most goals in a Premier League game is five, shared by several players including City legend Sergio Aguero against Newcastle in 2015-16.

In the Champions League Van Nistelrooy has the record for fewest appearances to 30 goals (34) and 35 goals (42). If Haaland scores another seven goals he would break or equal those marks too.

Haaland could also close in on the Norway goalscoring record this season. He is only 12 goals off Jorgen Juve's national record of 33 goals in the 1920s and 30s.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praises his players following his side's 4-0 victory over Southampton and says Erling Haaland is an "incredible weapon" for his team.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, 22, has a 200m euros release clause that kicks in from summer 2024. Manager Pep Guardiola said the Norway international did not have one "for Real Madrid or any other team" but the clause applies to any club outside England. (Athletic)

Haaland the scoring machine

After failing to score at Liverpool last weekend, Haaland was on - for him - a barren run of two hours without a goal.

His opener emphasised how much speed, power and awareness he has.

City keeper Ederson deserves huge credit for launching a long ball from his penalty area over the top of the Brighton defence.

Seagulls keeper Robert Sanchez dashed out of his goal but Haaland beat him to the ball and knocked it past him. Then he barged Adam Webster out of the way before rolling the ball into an empty net.

It meant the longest Haaland has gone without a Premier League goal remains 148 minutes.

Pretty soon, he had another as he drove home a penalty after the video assistant referee stopped play to rule Lewis Dunk had fouled Silva.

Missing first game of the EPL Season today - out injured vs Leic City

Haaland has scored 17 of City's 36 goals this season.

Erling Haaland "feels better" and could be back to face Fulham on Saturday, according to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Haaland was replaced at half-time in a goalless draw against his former club Borussia Dortmund on 25 October because he had a fever and a knock to his foot.

He missed the league win at Leicester City and will be absent against Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"Erling will not be available for tomorrow," said Guardiola.

"He feels better compared to Saturday and Sunday, but not 100%.

"We don't want to take a risk, it makes no sense. Hopefully he will be back for Fulham."

Haaland has scored a record-breaking 22 goals in his first 15 games for City.

City face Sevilla at home having already secured top place in their Champions League group and progress to the last 16 phase.

Guardiola's side play Fulham at 15:00 GMT on Saturday.

Erling Haaland says penalty against Fulham ‘one of the most nervous moments' of his life

Erling Haaland's amazing goalscoring feats this season have led some to believe he is not actually human but even he felt the pressure of having to convert an injury-time penalty to give Manchester City victory over Fulham.

The 22-year-old Norwegian, who just about beat Bernd Leno with his 95th-minute spot-kick to send his side top of the Premier League and spark wild celebrations at Etihad Stadium, admitted to Sky Sports afterwards: "I was nervous - it was one of the most nervous moments of my life.

"A penalty in the last minute? Of course I would be nervous," he added to BBC Sport. "But it was about getting through the situation in the proper way and I did that. It was a fantastic feeling to score.

"I love it. I have been injured for a week and it was really important for us to win."

Haaland, who had started on the bench after missing City's last two games with a foot problem, had seen an earlier header disallowed for offside by VAR and with four other targets either missed the ball, the target or saw his shot blocked.

He was not to be denied, however, and after scoring his second penalty for City, he now has 18 Premier League goals in his first 12 games - and 23 from 17 in all competitions - this season.

Most of his finishes during that spectacular scoring run have been a lot more emphatic than this latest strike, which Leno appeared to dive over and get a hand to without being able to keep it out, but Haaland's only concern was that it ended up in the net, like all the rest.

"I don't care how it went in, it is about it going in. It was an amazing feeling," Haaland said.

"For me, it was about coming in with some energy and try and get a goal because these three points are really important. It was about trying to get it and that is what we did."

Guardiola said he understood why Haaland was nervous about his penalty although his maths let him down when he tried to explain why it still went in.

"It was long time before he could put the ball down and take the penalty," Guardiola explained. "It means you can think a lot.

"Erling has also had two or three weeks with no training, you can lose your rhythm and your tempo.

So, the penalty was not the best penalty I have ever seen in my life but I would say he hit it strong.

"When you play soft to one side, it is 50-50 [whether it will be saved or not]. If it is strong it is 75-30 - ah, sorry 75-15. Mathematics, I am not a genius!

"Leno, I know him from Germany and he is an incredible saver of penalties. But in the end, the finish was good. It looks like everything was against us today but at the end we could win."

Guardiola joined the celebrations at the final whistle, embracing Haaland and joining his players in a lap of honour.

He viewed this victory as a hugely significant one after seeing his side play for more than an hour with 10 men following Joao Cancelo's red card while conceding the penalty for Fulham's equaliser.

"We played in the right tempo at 10 versus 11," Guardiola said. "You cannot attack so quick because they will attack quicker.

"All the players in the middle were amazing - Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri and especially Kevin de Bruyne.

"I have said many times recently that Kevin is still not at his best but the games against Leicester and now here, it was completely the opposite.

"Everyone was exceptional. For 65 minutes against Fulham to play the way we played was the moment of my period here in Manchester by far - then scoring at the end and celebrating with our people.

"We didn't win the Premier League today, of course, but these moments make sense of our jobs, all of us, to see the faces of the crowd when we walked around the pitch afterwards."

"Erling texted me as soon as the schedule came out"

Jesse Marsch expects Erling Haaland to be 'fully ready' to face his Leeds side next week.

Kevin De Bruyne believes Erling Haaland is so obsessed with scoring that the Manchester City striker can register 800 goals in his career.

The Norwegian’s opener in Thursday’s 3-2 Carabao Cup win over Liverpool was his 24th strike in 19 appearances in all competitions this season. His total career tally is approaching 200.

De Bruyne said: “Erling is so obsessed with goals. He already has about 200 goals, so he can probably go to 600, 700 or 800 if he stays fit and does the things that he does. Erling is a top-level striker. I don’t see Erling as different to a lot of people. He is a normal football player like everybody else and he doesn’t take himself too seriously.

“When you talk about professional footballers or professional athletes, everybody has that little edge. I don’t think you can become a professional player if you don’t have that little something to become the best version you can be.
