What's new

Will Hardik Pandya cost India dearly at the 2019 World Cup?

Question is, can India afford a hit-or-miss player? If he has it going he might end up playing grabbing the MoS.

I'd say, we severely lack any power in the middle/lower middle order. And now with Kulcha occupying the 2 Ravi's spot, we have even more fragile lower order. Pandya can fill that gap currently, ala Yusuf Pathan did in 2011. Similar to Yusuf, Pandya doesn't inspire any confidence with the ball.

Time will tell, but for now, we can keep investing.

Then we should drop Rohit Sharma first.

Costing the world cup? Mate! I'm glad this hack didn't play Nidahas Trophy, otherwise he would have costed us that Trophy too. Chuck this over-confident ameatur Fashion model out of the team and give chances to someone who's proving his mettle in domestics & IPL. Heck! I would even take that Gowtham guy to experiment with.

Exactly! If we had given Rahul opportunities like what Rohit is getting, Rahul would be the topper of the charts by now. Sadly! This hack Rohit is occupying his spot and it's impossible for our team management to keep him out and replace with Rahul. At this stage, N. Rana, Samson, even Rayudu looks like a better bastaman than this hack Rohit.

So you want Rohit out but still keep Dhoni in the team?

Here is this lad who brings up Dhoni in every damn irrelevant thread and conversation!

That was a genuine question. You want Rohit to be booted out and he is one of the better batsman in the team. But you want Dhoni to be in the team and he has been struggling for impact. I was talking about the contradiction. And i asked you because you're a self proclaimed 'Thala' fan.

Well! My point was about the Opening bastman Rohit Sharma and how he is misusing his oppurnities by not playing like a leader and throwing his wicket away. He did nothing great in Nidahas Trophy too except his 50 in the final.

Now coming to Dhoni, I don't wish to see Dhoni in T20s for sure. He's occupying the spot of a youngster like Samson or Pant. Dhoni is not performing that bad in ODIs. Though he lost his finesse as a Finisher, he's atleast not scoring ducks and single digit numbers like this hit-or-miss Rohit. He's playing a role of supporting batsman alongside the so called Finishers like Pandya, Pandey and Jadhav. But are these Finishers doing what they are asked to do? I would want Dhoni to rest for an ODI series against a top team and give a chance to Samson or Pant and see how they would adapt and make them permanant fixtures if they perform well and Dhoni should retire immediately in that case. But do we have a Finisher in our team who can take up the responsibility of Dhoni and win games for India single-handedly like Peak-Dhoni? That's a big question mark.

Couple of points

1) Pretty sure Rohit had another score in Nidahas other than final.

2) In ODIs , he had a poor SA series. Other than that he has been excellent. Just because there is an exciting guy waiting in the wings doesn't mean a performing guy should make way. And Rohit is the most destructive batsman in the team .

3) Peak Dhoni was better than Kohli of now even. But he has been beyond the peak for atleast a good 3 years now. I was his greatest fan. Now he is tarnishing his legacy. A young replacement need time before WC . I guess that won't happen now.

Yes! Rohit is a destructive bastman once he settles and I'm not denying that. But what about his consistency? He plays one great knock and goes missing in the rest of the matches. That's why I rate Dhawan highly because he's consistent and a big match player unlike Rohit. Seeing how Rahul is playing these days, he looks like a better batsman than Rohit minus his brainfade moments. Well! That's just my viewpoint and I may be wrong too.

I agree about 'Young replacement takes time' thing. But haven't we given plethora of oppornities to this lad Pandya? and he's not new anymore.

I was talking about wicket keeper youngsters. Pandya is a curious case. India definitely need a seam bowling AR. Spinners will get massacred whether they are wrist or finger. He can leak runs but his chances of being effective in a match are more. He can tonk some runs , or take wickets. He was MOS against Aus and in CT final he was the best batsman and bowler for India. That is high impact. So if he is inconsistent , he can be given some more time. Comparison to Kapil or Stokes are uncalled for though.

Pandya is going the pseudo All rounder way.

Good at nothing type.

Let me reiterate. He'll play a wonderful innings here and there but, will end up costing us some important games, may be even at the WC 19.

Our selectors, Coach and captain are dumb.

Practically we'll be playing 2 spinners and a Trundler at the WC in England

Pandya
Bhubaneshwar
Chahal
Yadav
Bumrah

I don't know how playing 2 spinners and a trundler would help us in England.

Also the tail looks to be long. Add to that our 4,5 and 6 are totally unsettled with match losing Dhoni

Dhawan and Rohit are same type of players. If you remove last few month's performance then even dhawan has been alot inconsistent (actually more than rohit in last 5 years) but both players scores consistently in ICC ODI events. Rohit till south africa tour was 2nd best batsman in limited over cricket after VK.

I believe he is having a rough patch right now..

Interesting to see how he performs in coming ODIs and if he can bounce back.

When did he have a purple patch? Guys like him keeps getting chances after chances whereas someone like KL Rahul doesn't play regularly. Pandya is a mediocre cricketer.

Even Agarkar used to play some cameos here and there. He was a much better bowler and actually helped India win the Adelaide test with his 6 fer in 2003-2004 tour.

Agarkar is a highly under rated player. He was a pretty good limited over bowler for India. In a line up like we have today, he would have been really useful. Yes, I agree. Agarkar was better than Pandya.

I wonder why does Pandya get so much hate. Maybe people do not like for his weird sense of style and in your face personalit.

Looking at the IPL, he has played 5 matches, got 7 wickets@15, ER of 8.2. He's failed in 3 innings with the bat and scored 17* and 22* in two other matches. Overall, not as bad as some of you are making him out to be. Yes he should do more with the bat and be more consistent but then no one in Mumbai's batting line up has been upto the mark. He is Mumbai's 2nd best bowler after Markande and is not the reason for MI's bad performance in the tournament.

Agarkar would bowl 140 in EA Cricket 2007, that's how realistic it was :ksi

Useless Pandya. Always knew he's a nothing bowler, but couldn't even score a run a ball 20 against these nothing spinners.

Conceding 70 only adds an insult to the injury.
