What's new

Will heat be a major factor when PSL 6 resumes in Abu Dhabi?

Very much so, i can see a lot of replacements getting a go and unsettled XIs. Somebody is bound to get heat exhaustion/stroke.

I think all the matches will be played during the night plus cricket is not as demanding physically as some other sports are. So I think players should be fine.

It won't be cool at night either, only good thing about doing the matches at night is avoiding sun burn. The heat/temp will be consistent throughout the day.

Only possibility for double headers is start first match at 6 PM local time and second at 10 PM. And timing in Pak will be one hour behind, so second match at 11PM. atleast 50 to 60% viewers will miss out. Specially middle and working class who have to go work next day 7 am and young children because it's exam season. Still it will be too hard to pull of for PCB and Players. I know they have no choice but let's see how the make it happen.

Not true. Some cricketers have died in the past due to heatstroke so PSL management should take it seriously.

Some media reports suggesting that teams are very concerned about the heat.

The UAE is all set to host the remaining matches of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League, but the players will have to face tough weather conditions.

Temperatures at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium are likely to be 33 to 38 degrees Celsius for the next 15 days, the UAE Meteorological Department forecast Friday.

The hottest weather in the UAE lasts from the end of July to the end of September. The PSL is set to resume on June 5, with the final planned for June 20.

UAE has never hosted elite cricket at this time of year due to the summer heat, with nearly all high-level competitions played during the winter and spring months.

The average temperature in the afternoon hours of June will be 45 degrees Celsius

On Thursday night, Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium and its surroundings recorded a temperature of 34 degrees Celsius.

Pakistan played Australia in August 2012 in the UAE. Surely that was even worse. Not the first time playing such weather.

Hopefully the medics are onto this and will be advising the PCB and proper research and planning goes into it.

Lots of liquids, ice vests, frequent cold water cool offs will be the key. That's what the aussies did when they played Pakistan in the UAE in 2002.

Exactly, man-to-man management must be top-notch.

Teams should make use of their substitute fielders if they think there is a need.

I'd expect fast bowlers to reduce their pace a little as well.

These T20 league honchos don't care about the players or the fans.

All they want is a vehicle to splash their sponsor logos - pandemic or no pandemic, heatwave or no heatwave.

Usman Khawaja on the heat question:

"It's bloody hot out here! It's the humidity which is the killer; I am used to a bit of humidity from back home in Queensland but this humidity is next level and closest that it comes to in terms of experience is when I played in Colombo."

UAE set for baking hot week as HBL PSL 6 nears

Humidity is also expected to shoot up to 90 percent in coastal regions while drier weather is expected inland

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) looks set to endure a baking hot week, with temperatures expected to hit 46 degrees in Dubai on Monday, as the resumption of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six draws closer.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology, Abu Dhabi, which will be hosting the HBL PSL season six matches, is forecasted to reach 45 degrees in the next few days.

Humidity is also expected to shoot up to 90 percent in coastal regions while drier weather is expected inland.

In the Sweihan area of Al Ain, a weather centre registered a temperature of 51 degrees during Sunday afternoon in the UAE.

According to the weather forecast hot temperatures, high humidity and hazy conditions are expected throughout the week.

It should be noted that the HBL PSL season six, which was originally postponed due to the rise in coronavirus cases in Pakistan, is scheduled to resume on June 9 in Abu Dhabi while the final is expected to be played on June 24.

The weather is Abu Dhabi is expected to be very hot and the players have begun to train for the harsh conditions that are being expected.

This is gonna be a disaster.Humidity is the killer.Heat with that humidity is recipe for a disaster. These are really extreme conditions for playing cricket.I hope players remain healthy.

Some educated and qualified person could have predicted the covid situation in Pakistan in June and PSL should have been kept in Pakistan .

34 C at the moment but am sure feels hotter due to humidity

PSL franchises hold the PCB hostage and the PCB does not have the courage to dictate to them. Sad state of affairs

Players seem to be feeling the heat today - atleast the Quetta bowlers.
