MP govt mulls legal action against Congress's Digvijaya Singh for fake tweet on Khargone violence

The Madhya Pradesh government is mulling legal action against Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for a fake tweet on Khargone stone pelting incident. The tweet has since been deleted.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has landed in trouble for a post that he shared on social media which turned out to be fake. On Tuesday morning, Digvijaya Singh took to microblogging site Twitter to post a picture claiming it was taken during the communal violence in Khargone on Sunday.

It turned out to be a fake photo. In the photo, some youths are seen putting up a saffron flag at a mosque. It turned out to be an old image from Bihar. Digvijaya Singh deleted the tweet after some time, but by then it had gone viral.

Digvijaya tweeted the photo saying, "Did the Khargone administration allow a procession with weapons?" (Translated from Hindi)

Is the preposterous blasphemy law repealed yet? When that day comes, we'll know that Pakistan has turned a corner on how minorities are treated.

As the Narendra Modi government continues to turn a blind eye towards the increasing calls for Muslim genocide in India, Hindu zealots have found yet more courage to launch a fresh threat to target the community.

In a similar attack, a hardline Hindu leader can be heard hurling threats at Muslims and warning them of dire consequences for reason not known.

The video, posted online by Ashok Swain, a professor of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University, captioned, "A Hindu Right religious leader in India openly calling for genocide of Muslims! India on a dangerous path and the world has gone into silence".

“Well we have begun a dharam yudh (battle based on faith) and we will not spare you," the man clad in traditional saffron robe can be heard saying in the video.

"It will be them (Muslims) who will start it but it will be us who will end it," he added, pointing at the intensions of the hardliners towards the minority community.

Towards the end of the video, another man can be heard saying that there is no "dead nation" more than the Hindi nation, in an apparent gesture to provoke the community against others.

The video validated the stance of those who urge PM Modi to take timely action amidst rising calls for genocide.

Earlier this momth, Hindu zealots belonging to BJP-RSS dispensation vandalised and burning of more than 40 houses of Muslims in the Karauli area of Rajasthan with the connivance of local security authorities.

The incident drew strong condemnation from the foreign office, saying, "equally alarming is the apathy of state machinery which wantonly looked the other way and failed in its basic duty of protecting the lives and properties of its citizens."
It had noted that the minorities in India, especially the Muslims, continue to live under fear and intimidation.

The foreign office had further pointed out the BJP-RSS combine had enabled the perpetration of senseless violence against minorities as part of its “Hindutva” agenda marked by hate and majoritarianism.

It will be made to look like "them who started it" but this is how these hate campaigns flourish. False flag ops to initiate the agenda of the fascists.

SGPC president Harjinder Singh on Tuesday said the “disappearance” of Pakistan’s first Sikh police officer Gulab Singh Shaheen is an act of repression against minorities in the neighbouring country.

Condemning “injustice and excesses” on the minority Sikh community in Pakistan, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief said it is “unfortunate”.

Referring to some purported media reports in Pakistan, the head of the Sikhs’ apex religious body in a statement said the disappearance of Pakistan’s first Sikh police officer Gulab Singh Shaheen is an act of repression of minorities.

He said in the past too, there have been reports of injustice and excesses on minority Sikhs in Pakistan which made it clear that Sikhs there are not safe.

“This phenomenon is not right and the government of any country is responsible for the safety of the people of all communities. The abduction of Gulab Singh Shaheen at an undisclosed location is a matter of fear among Sikhs in Pakistan and the Pakistan government should immediately disclose his whereabouts,” said Singh

800 Pakistani Hindus returned home from India, says NGO

Around 800 Pakistani Hindus in Rajasthan, who came to India seeking citizenship on the basis of alleged religious persecution, returned to the country in 2021, according to Seemant Lok Sangathan (SLS), a group that advocates for the rights of Pakistani minority migrants in India, The Hindu said on Sunday.

It quoted SLS as saying that many of the returnees went home after finding no progress in their citizenship application.

Their return is said to be embarrassing for India where the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) initiated an online citizenship application process in 2018. It also made 16 Collectors in seven States to accept online applications to grant citizenship to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jain and Buddhists from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

The religiously-based citizenship law has been challenged by India’s opposition groups. A bureaucratic red-tape is a hindrance. Though the entire process is online, The Hindu said, the portal does not accept Pakistani passports that have expired, forcing people seeking refuge to rush to the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi to get their passports renewed for a hefty sum.

“If it is a family of ten, then they end up spending more than Rs1 lakh at the Pakistan High Commission to get the passports renewed. These people come to India amid great financial hardships and to cough up such a high amount of money is not feasible,” an SLS official was quoted as saying.

The MHA informed the Rajya Sabha on December 22, 2021, that according to the online module, as many as 10,635 applications for citizenship were pending with the Ministry as on December 14, of which 7,306 applicants were from Pakistan.

According to Mr Singh, there are 25,000 Pakistani Hindus in Rajasthan alone who have been awaiting citizenship, some for more than two decades. Many of them have applied in the offline mode.

In 2015, the MHA amended the Citizenship Rules and legalised the stay of foreign migrants belonging to six communities, who had entered India on or before December 2014 due to persecution on grounds of religion, by exempting them from the provisions of the Passport Act and the Foreigners Act as their passports had expired.

New Delhi: Calling Pakistan "a serial violator of minority rights", India's foreign ministry today slammed the neighbour in a strongly worded response to its Prime Minister's recent comments. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had yesterday condemned recent remarks made by BJP leaders on Prophet Muhammad.

"I condemn in strongest possible words hurtful comments of India's BJP leader about our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Have said it repeatedly India under Modi is trampling religious freedoms & persecuting Muslims. World should take note & severely reprimand India. Our love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is supreme. All Muslims can sacrifice their life for the Love & Respect of their Holy Prophet (PBUH)," he had tweeted.

Responding to media queries, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi called out the "irony" in Pakistan condemning the treatment of minorities.

"The absurdity of a serial violator of minority rights commenting on the treatment of minorities in another nation is not lost on anyone. The world has been witness to the systemic persecution of minorities including Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Ahmadiyyas by Pakistan," he said.

Stating that the Government of India accords the "highest respect" to all religions, he said that in Pakistan, "fanatics are eulogized and monuments built in their honour".

He further called on Pakistan to focus on the safety, security, and well-being of its minority communities "instead of engaging in alarmist propaganda and attempting to foment communal disharmony in India."

This comes as India is firefighting the diplomatic backlash of two BJP leaders making controversial statements about the Prophet.

Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia have condemned the remarks made by two BJP leaders who have since been suspended.

Saudi Arabia described BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's comments as "insulting" and called for "respect for beliefs and religions", according to a foreign ministry statement.

Riyadh is the latest to condemn the remarks. Qatar, Kuwait and Iran summoned the Indian envoy on Sunday amid widespread calls on social media for a boycott of Indian goods in the Gulf

The Indian envoy in Doha was summoned to the foreign ministry and handed an official protest letter which said "Qatar is expecting a public apology and immediate condemnation of these remarks from the government of India". Qatar's condemnation came amid Vice President Venkaiah Naidu's high-profile tour of the wealthy Gulf state along with Indian business leaders to boost trade.

India has said that the remarks were "views of fringe elements" and did not reflect the government's opinion. The government also highlighted that the ruling BJP had taken action against the leaders -- one of whom was the party's national spokesperson and the other its media chief. The decision was welcomed by Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has asked minority communities to join his movement for “real freedom”, saying society can never proposer without rule of law and justice.

“The aim of Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is to provide justice to the people and our war is against elite capture and a small group of people who have been imposed upon the country and have a monopoly on resources,” he said while addressing the minority convention in Islamabad on Thursday.

National Day of Minorities is being observed today (Thursday) to honour the services rendered by minorities for the creation of Pakistan and their subsequent contribution to nation-building.

The government declared August 11 as National Minority Day in 2009.

The PTI chief said he considered minorities equal citizens of Pakistan and assured them that his party would protect their rights.

Imran also condemned the practice of forced conversion of minorities on the pretext of marriage, saying there is no compulsion on non-believers to accept Islam.

Calling justice and rule of law two main components to achieve ‘real freedom,’ the former premier said human rights and humanity are the bedrock of society.

“A society can never prosper without the rule of law..everyone including rich and poor must have equal human rights,” he added.

Speaking about his upcoming rally in Lahore, the former premier told the gathering that on August 13 his party will celebrate ‘real freedom’ and give a message to minorities that they are equal citizens of Pakistan.

He also added that he will also unveil a future course of action on how to achieve ‘real freedom’.

It pains me to say this but there is nothing Modi needs to learn from Khan in politics.

There is plenty which Khan needs to learn from Modi though.

How to stand down the police force in order to facilitate mass murder of ethnic minorities?

Keep clinging onto that stupid narrative. Modi was cleared by the supreme court and all people who were involved were tried in courts. And an fyi. The Congress was in power at the time too. So your mass murder sensationalism doesn't pass the test.
As Obama said- when people get bitter they cling to guns and religion like the pak establishment. Orchestrating terrorism in the valley and complaining. Pot calling the kettle black .
