They will never get a golden opportunity like this. Dravid and Tendulkar missed a golden opportunity of true greatness by refusing to put away a weak South African side in 2007.
The relative strength of the opposition is non of your business, your job is to win games for your country.
Kohli has a golden opportunity here to grab greatness by the throat.

Australia are slowly building a side that will go decades before losing at home again, not even South Africa can win there going forward. Australia's pace attack will be around for the next 8 years at least.
They need a #5 or 6 to complement Warner and Smith and they'll have a monster of a side.

Not that you need an incentive to win in Australia, but if India were not motivated to win there, they should be now. They have the bowling attack to take 20 wickets in any conditions. It's going to be a cracker of a series.

Ive been watching since early 2000s and there's been only one Indian attack which I though was a quality attack (the 2007-2011 one with Zak, Ishant, Sreesanth/Nehra/randompacer and Bhajji). I think the current one blows it out of the park and only Zak would get into it.

It doesn't take a great batting lineup to put Indian bowlers in their place. Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins would still outperform Indian attack in Australia, and that should be enough for them to take the Border-Gavaskar trophy with relative ease.

Zaheer and Bhajjan were tough to handle in India. Good bowlers and they complimented each other quite well. Ishant was also decent during this time and whatever second spinner India played enjoyed decent success because of the pitches, which would turn as the match went on.

That was a better attack than the one India have right now.

Australia Bowling is Cummins, Strac, Hazelwood and Lyon. They can get any random batsmen from domestic side and get them to play in Australia and win against India. It is really hard to win in Australia for Asian teams given how strong Oz are. If India is missing Kohli in India, it won't much difference as there are 20 other guys who can fill somewhat shoes in batting for Aswin/Jadeja to run through sides.

Now if they are missing main bowlers, that would be different story.

Concerned for indian 'thinking tank'. Clearly Kohli and Ravi Shastri are fan of Rohit, and Rohit was in prime form before going to SA. And Rahane wasn't. That's why they went ahead with Rohit despite Rahane with better record. It's clearly mistake by 'thinking tank'. So, my concern is that hopefully they give another long run to Rahane over Rohit at least in overseas, and don't get confused whom to choose.

Australia will win the series. I think there batsmen will score enough in home conditions and they still have a world class bowling attack.

Though I have not seen the bowling in warm-up, It is pretty safe to say by looking at the scores that AU batsmen should not have much trouble against Indians. Let's wait for 5 more days to find out. I hope AU bat first so Indians would know where their bowling stands against this AU batting on a fresh pitch.

Honestly without Smith and Warner Australia is not looking strong at the moment . But the most important thing is India has never won a test series in Australia and this is a fact which everybody is aware of even the players . Australia's bowling attack is top notch with Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins and Lyon . Probably the best bowling attack in the world along with South Africa . India's bowling attack is looking quite solid with Ishant, Bumrah, Shami and Yadav . I don't Ashwin or Jadeja will play a very important role in bowling . India's batting is extremely poor . They are over dependent on Kohli . Australia's team management knows this series is very important in terms of reputation and to gain the respect and trust of the spectators so they will give more than 100 % to win this series . According to me only two results are possible :
1. Australia winning the series 2 - 1
2. Series drawn 1 - 1

I can't see India winning this test series . Maybe I am being pessimistic but I am being logical in my analysis because even to draw the series India will have to play some exceptional cricket in all the departments . I am expecting this to be a very well contested series . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
