According to the World Economic Forum, humans will need to start eating insects in the future.

We've been conditioned to think of animals and plants as our primary sources of proteins, namely meat, dairy and eggs or tofu, beans and nuts, but there's an unsung category of sustainable and nutritious protein that has yet to widely catch on: insects.

Before you say "yuck," hear us out.

Most of us aren't accustomed to regarding insects as food. But, the nutritional difference between sources of protein is relatively small. For instance, plant proteins lack some essential amino acids that animal proteins possess, but the major differences between insect and other sources of protein exist largely in the cultural and environmental realm.

1. Edible insects can produce equivalent amounts of quality protein when compared to animals.

2. Insects require less care and upkeep than livestock.

3. We're actually running out of protein.
By 2050, the earth will have nearly 10 billion people. The demand for protein will exceed our ability to procure it.

4. Insects are part of a virtuous eco-cycle.

5. You can start small and work your way up.

It seems the world economic forum which has previously stated 'You will own nothing and be happy' are now advising us to prepare to eat insects!

They claim its due to climate change and lack of abundance in food suppliers in the future.

Will you consider eating insects?

I will never eat insects. Imo the world has more than enough resources to feed everyone. Im not willing to be enslaved by the WEF.

I believe Far East people such as Thais and Malays eat locusts.

Its no as common as we think in Thailand but yes some oriental people do eat insects but this is part of their long standing culture.

In the UK, its not our culture, many esp ladies are scared of insects! lol.

The view of the WEF is you will have little choice in the future.

If in 10 years insects are being sold in Aldi would you eat them if abundance of food is no longer avaialble?

i have turned to promoting the benefits of veganism, the more vegans there are, the more meat for me. :inzi

Good point. Can Vegans or Vegetarians eat insects?

Also insects seem a bit dry, I would need to dip the legs/wings into some hot chilli sauce :inzi

vegans don't eat insects, stick insects might be a grey area tho :ashwin

I assume theyd be crunchy, u wouldn't know if ur munching a chilli flake or a flies wing.

if its grinded down into powder form many wont have issue. Some products we eat already do have insects in them which is allowed by food control groups. Coffee beans, wheat and chocolate have tiny insects.

I can never keep with vegans.

I didnt realise the nutritional value of insects compared to other beasts but it seem Crickets are the way to go.!

5kg bag of crickets less than £20! A real shame I dont know how to cook!

There is a restaurant in Fritzovia that specialises in alternative meats
Crocodile and Emu steaks plus deep fried crickets etc.

Been there and tried it. Quiet delicious if you close your eyes before sticking it in your mouth.
Once you're past that first crunch it's actually ok.

Mmm sounds like frying pakoras. I wonder I you can add them to the mixture but maybe can only be very shallow fried? If you visit again, grab the recipe!

If there is no other option, I may eat it perhaps.

But, if there are options, I have no intention of eating this.

Don’t think I would fancy it, though roast tarantula is supposedly quite good.

Better to eat plant products as meat substitutes, and switch to oat milk instead off moo-juice. That will really cut down the carbon and water footprint.

I believe there are a few insects that are halal to consume such as crickets and locusts. Don't see myself eating them though unless there's a world food crisis or something

I think it can be made to taste good with seasonings.

Insect soup, spicy insect curry, deep fried insects etc.

You could be the new Gordon Ramsey of insect meals!

But in seriousness its a bit crazy to feed these to schoolchildren already. At least wait until the world is properly in ruins.

I agree.

It is shocking that these kids are being fed insects.

They are programming us for the coming food shortages. Read between the lines here that when food is unavailable then we'll be forced to eat even grass to survive.

I think lab-grown meats is the future.

I think there are billions and billions of insects to eat, no need for lab grown yet!
Junaids What is the hidden agenda behind this by the West? Please dont tell me insects taste better than Chicken. :inzi

Aye.

But plant based burgers are getting so good now, in taste and textures. They can even appear a bit bloody, due to beetroot juice I guess.

Burger King in Bristol will be plant based ONLY for a week. Im not sure those who eat whoppers will be excited for this.

Give it a year, there will be plant based insects to eat.

By 2100. Westerners will think of meat-eating the way we think of slavery. It will be considered a perversion and part of a dark age.

Almost all East Asian nations eat insects. It may appear gross to us as we are not brought up with it. They just harvest locusts which seem to be abundant there, add some soy sauce and its heaven.

I don’t understand why vegans/vegetarians try to make their food like like non-vegan.

Why have vegan burgers, steaks, ribs, kababs, bacon etc.? What is wrong with having vegan food that does not imitate traditional meat dishes?

It is as if vegans are conceding that their food sucks and they miss proper food but cannot eat due to societal pressure and self-created ethics that don’t mean anything.

Yup.

That's what it seems like.

Because meat tastes nice.

A lot of that is lovely too. Mushroom curries, ratatouille and so on.

Quite apart from the horror of factory farming, a low- or no-meat and no-milk diet is better for the biosphere.

All ethics are "self-created".

Highly unlikely.

It is absurd to compare meat eating to slavery.

Slavery was accepted by most societies at one point. Now it isn't. Meat eating will go the same way. It will have to - there won't be enough room for mass meat production and for people to live when climate change really kicks in.
