Alyssa Healy to retire from all forms of cricket

Alyssa Healy has today announced she will retire from all forms of cricket following Australia’s upcoming multi-format series against India.

Healy, 35, will end her 15-year career with almost 300 matches, more than 7,000 runs and 275 dismissals to her name following her national team debut in 2010.

Taking over as full-time Australian captain in 2023, Healy famously led the side to a historic 16-0 whitewash of England.

One of the most destructive batters and finest wicketkeepers in world cricket, she has been part of eight ICC World Cup titles, holding an array of records including the highest individual score in a World Cup Final and most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20 Internationals.

Healy was awarded the 2019 Belinda Clark Award, twice named ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year and was part of Australia’s Commonwealth Games gold medal winning side in 2022.

A founding Sydney Sixers player, Healy compiled more than 3,000 runs across 11 seasons in the Weber WBBL and was part of two title winning sides. She was also part of a remarkable 11 Women’s National Cricket League titles with New South Wales.

On her retirement, Alyssa Healy said:

“It’s with mixed emotions that the upcoming India series will be my last for Australia. I’m still passionate about playing for Australia, but I’ve somewhat lost that competitive edge that’s kept me driven since the start, so the time feels right to call it a day.

“Knowing I won’t be going to the T20 World Cup this year and the limited preparation time the team has, I won’t be part of the T20s against India, but I’m excited to have the opportunity to finish my career and captain the ODI and Test side at home against India – one of the biggest series on the calendar for us.

“I’ll genuinely miss my teammates, singing the team song and walking out to open the batting for Australia. Representing my country has been an incredible honour and I’m grateful for one last series in the green and gold.”

Todd Greenberg, Cricket Australia CEO said:

“Alyssa is one of the all-time greats of the game and has made an immeasurable contribution both on and off the field over her 15-year career.

“On behalf of Australian Cricket, I’d like to thank Alyssa and congratulate her on an incredible career that has inspired so many and changed the game for the better.

“We look forward to celebrating her achievements throughout the series against India.”

End of an era. She has been the face of Australian women's cricket for the past decade or so.

I am guessing her husband (Starc) may retire soon as well.

South Africa win last-ball thriller after Fatima Sana hits career-best 41-ball 90

Debutant Kayla Reyneke’s all-round performance and Laura Wolvaardt’s 61 sealed South Africa women’s victory over Pakistan in a 181-run chase on the final delivery of the game, trumping Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana’s effort of 90 in first T20I here at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on Tuesday night.

In pursuit of the target, South Africa got off to swift start as they raced to 54-1 after six overs, powered by Tazmin Brits (16, 14b, 2x4s) and Sune Luus (32, 20b, 5x4s).

Skipper Wolvaardt top-scored with a 38-ball 61 hitting eight fours and one six, setting up the chase. Reyneke remained unbeaten on 29 off 16 balls after walking in at 147-5, hitting a six off the final delivery of the match to take her side home.

South Africa needed 79 off the remaining 60 balls at the halfway mark. Nashra Sundhu removed Wolvaardt in the 15th over, while two wickets including one run-out came in Ayesha Zafar’s subsequent over.

The equation came down from 34 off last four overs to 10 needed off the final over. Debutant Humna Bilal, who had earlier drawn the first blood for Pakistan removing Tazmin Brits, gave away six runs off the first three balls before South Africa needed two off the last ball.

At the start after opting to bat first, Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and slipped to 25-3 in 3.4 overs and then 64-6 in 9.4 overs.

Captain Fatima, batting at no.8, then held the innings together with a vital 74-run stand alongside Umm-e-Hani (13). The partnership ended in the 17th over when Umm-e-Hani fell, with Pakistan at 138-7.

Fatima went on to register a career-best T20I 90 off 41 balls, smashing nine fours and seven sixes, getting to her maiden T20I half-century. This was also the second-highest individual score for Pakistan Women’s in T20Is besides Muneeba Ali’s 102 against Ireland in South Africa in 2023.

Pakistan’s skipper brought up her half-century off 27 balls, registering the second-fastest fifty for her country. From 103-6 at the end of 15 overs, Pakistan surged to 180-9, plundering 77 runs in the last five overs, powered largely by Fatima’s late onslaught. 40 of those came in the 16th and 17th overs combined.

For South Africa, Ayanda Hlubi bagged 3-41 in her four overs while Kayla Reyneke (2-13) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (2-40) shared four wickets among them.

Currently India women and Aus women are playing in a multi format series.

Today's attendance at scg for the first first t20 match got good amount of crowd for ladies match.it seems to be around 10k mostly made up of indian fans.Slowly but surely even Indian women's team got good support from Indian fans.Eng and Aus will definitely reap this bonus. I hope indian women's team.bevome much more professional and better.

India emerging team is chasing 94 against Pakistan. Now 31/1 I am not sure umpire is happy with the action of one of the pakistan bowler's slingy action.

Pakistan women team has a couple of decent players but overall they make too many mistakes & carry passengers in every match. They are playing a T20 series against South Africa and could have won both matches but ended up losing.

In the first one, on the back of Fatima Sana 90 they managed to reach 180 but then dropped a lot of catches and were average in the field (didn't watch it, heard the commentator say they dropped 4 chances). Even after all of that, it was still a close match and they lost to a final ball six hit by Reneyka (an exciting talent from RSA who debuted in the match).

In the second one which was effected by rain, they dropped the best batter in South Africa when she was on zero. The match again went to the last over but it was relatively more comfortable in comparison to the first.

There are a couple of seniors who do not pull their weight. A player like Aliya Riaz who is considered a senior is still bang on average. Sidra also just had one brief period of form and now is back to scoring poorly. Natalya flatters to deceive and the same is true for erratic Diana (at least they dropped her from T20s). The fault also goes to the coaching as some of them still make mistakes in basic things like running between the wickets.

The good thing in the series is that they have unearthed another fast bowler who is half decent so let's see how it goes for her.

The talent in the pipeline, however, is extremely limited. Today on 15th Feb, they also had another match with India emerging and they were absolutely thrashed.

Edge? bhai thrashed kiya hai 8 wickets se or wo bhi 10.1 overs main. Lol :klopp :kp

After two sort of close matches, Pakistan are again in a position to win thanks to mostly their talismanic captain Fatima Sana.

A catch has already been dropped in a very crucial situation which may obviously come back to bite them. RSA have also dropped catches today (the commentary guy said that)

you just get the feeling that thwy will still lose this. They are like the associate teams in mens T20 WC. Very comepetive to a point and then the wheels just come off and they lose.

Agreed.

They miss crucial chances & there isn't enough depth to recover from that. The two missed chances today were by the same player (drop catch & a run out miss) & now it's looking that RSA will take it.

Agreed.

Just saw probably one of the funniest runouts I may have ever seen. Pure Inzi vibes (comedy gold)

Pakistan can actually win this now!

Congratulations on the win.

The RSA tail really fell apart. Marizan Kapp has a heart issue so she didn't bat but that's a super comprehensive win. Could have won the series if they didn't drop 4 catches in the first one. Even then they lost that match to a last ball six so it's probably a series that they'll look back with some regret.

All-round Fatima delivers 53-run win for Pakistan against South Africa in third WT20I

Fatima Sana’s all-round brilliance led Pakistan women’s team to a crushing 53-run win in the third T20I over South Africa, who took the series 2-1, here at the Willowmoore Park, Benoni on Monday. It is Pakistan’s sixth-largest winning margin in women’s T20Is and largest against South Africa.

The hosts succumbed to their second-lowest T20I total, 91 all out, in last four years. All-rounder Marizanne Kapp was absent hurt.

Pakistan will now face South Africa in a three-match ODI series slated to be played on 22, 25 February and 1 March and will warm up with a 50-over practice match on 19 February.

Fatima first struck 47 not out to help Pakistan recover from 68-5 to 144-7 in 20 overs and then took two wickets in the powerplay to put South Africa under pressure early on. She won her second player of the series award and only the third player of the match award in T20Is after scoring 146 runs and taking two scalps in the series.

South Africa lost Tazmin Brits to Fatima for a duck on the third ball after their chase got underway, before Lara Goodall and Dane van Niekerk both fell prey to left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal in a space of three balls in the fourth over.

Soon after Fatima’s strike to remove her counterpart Laura Wolvaardt for a run-a-ball 11 pushed South Africa to 30-4 in 4.1 overs.

At this juncture, Annerie Dercksen (30, 38b, 3x4s) and Nadine de Klerk (27, 30b, 4x4s) got together to put on 55-run stand, which brought down the equation to 60 needed off 31 balls.

Dercksen was run out in 15th over, while De Klerk was removed by Ayesha Zafar in the subsequent over as Pakistan took five for six including two run outs to wrap up South Africa’s innings in 16.5 overs.

For Pakistan, Sadia returned figures of 3.5-0-18-3, while Fatima’s two wickets came for 12 runs in three overs.

Earlier, Pakistan lost opening batter Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza early before Sidra Amin (26, 25b, 2x4s) and Ayesha Zafar (19, 21b, 1x6) took Pakistan to 46-2 at the end of powerplay.

Sidra and Ayesha’s 38-run stand ended in seventh over, while Pakistan found themselves 61-4 at the halfway mark and 68-5 in 11.2 overs. Fatima (47 not out, 30b, 4x4s, 2x6s) and Aliya Riaz (26, 25b, 3x4s) then stitched a game-changing 45-ball 70-run stand as Pakistan posted 144-7.

South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba, Ayabonda Khaka and Msabata Klaas picked up one wicket each.

I am hoping to attend some of the womens team fixtures in the upcoming world cup. They will likely lose but it will hopefully be a good atmosphere

Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings on Tuesday, marking the third time in her career she has achieved this feat.

Sadia surpassed Australia’s Annabel Sutherland and India’s Deepti Sharma to return to number one, following her impressive performances in the three-match T20I series against South Africa.

Australia’s women lose their first home bilateral series in any format for 9 years.

It was also INDIA'S first bilateral triumph on Aussie soil.

Indian women's team is clearly showing who will rule the roost in future. I hope this series will be the 95 Aussie men's team moment against the wi to dethrone them.

Big fan of women's cricket. Australia is such a beautiful place to play and watch cricket.

Looking forward to the ODI series now. India lead 4-2 in the multi format series.

Fatima Sana has those days when she can neither bat, bowl, or captain. They were very much in control of the game at one point but then they just imploded in the bowling innings. The captaincy too at that point was questionable. The backroom staff is massive but it feels that they don't really have any good plans or contingency strategies.

This team has reached the associate level of cricket quality where the team is in the game for some duration but then has a collective brain fade or makes unnecessary mistakes and ends up losing the game.
