Alyssa Healy to retire from all forms of cricket

Alyssa Healy has today announced she will retire from all forms of cricket following Australia’s upcoming multi-format series against India.

Healy, 35, will end her 15-year career with almost 300 matches, more than 7,000 runs and 275 dismissals to her name following her national team debut in 2010.

Taking over as full-time Australian captain in 2023, Healy famously led the side to a historic 16-0 whitewash of England.

One of the most destructive batters and finest wicketkeepers in world cricket, she has been part of eight ICC World Cup titles, holding an array of records including the highest individual score in a World Cup Final and most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20 Internationals.

Healy was awarded the 2019 Belinda Clark Award, twice named ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year and was part of Australia’s Commonwealth Games gold medal winning side in 2022.

A founding Sydney Sixers player, Healy compiled more than 3,000 runs across 11 seasons in the Weber WBBL and was part of two title winning sides. She was also part of a remarkable 11 Women’s National Cricket League titles with New South Wales.

On her retirement, Alyssa Healy said:

“It’s with mixed emotions that the upcoming India series will be my last for Australia. I’m still passionate about playing for Australia, but I’ve somewhat lost that competitive edge that’s kept me driven since the start, so the time feels right to call it a day.

“Knowing I won’t be going to the T20 World Cup this year and the limited preparation time the team has, I won’t be part of the T20s against India, but I’m excited to have the opportunity to finish my career and captain the ODI and Test side at home against India – one of the biggest series on the calendar for us.

“I’ll genuinely miss my teammates, singing the team song and walking out to open the batting for Australia. Representing my country has been an incredible honour and I’m grateful for one last series in the green and gold.”

Todd Greenberg, Cricket Australia CEO said:

“Alyssa is one of the all-time greats of the game and has made an immeasurable contribution both on and off the field over her 15-year career.

“On behalf of Australian Cricket, I’d like to thank Alyssa and congratulate her on an incredible career that has inspired so many and changed the game for the better.

“We look forward to celebrating her achievements throughout the series against India.”

End of an era. She has been the face of Australian women's cricket for the past decade or so.

I am guessing her husband (Starc) may retire soon as well.

South Africa win last-ball thriller after Fatima Sana hits career-best 41-ball 90

Debutant Kayla Reyneke’s all-round performance and Laura Wolvaardt’s 61 sealed South Africa women’s victory over Pakistan in a 181-run chase on the final delivery of the game, trumping Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana’s effort of 90 in first T20I here at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on Tuesday night.

In pursuit of the target, South Africa got off to swift start as they raced to 54-1 after six overs, powered by Tazmin Brits (16, 14b, 2x4s) and Sune Luus (32, 20b, 5x4s).

Skipper Wolvaardt top-scored with a 38-ball 61 hitting eight fours and one six, setting up the chase. Reyneke remained unbeaten on 29 off 16 balls after walking in at 147-5, hitting a six off the final delivery of the match to take her side home.

South Africa needed 79 off the remaining 60 balls at the halfway mark. Nashra Sundhu removed Wolvaardt in the 15th over, while two wickets including one run-out came in Ayesha Zafar’s subsequent over.

The equation came down from 34 off last four overs to 10 needed off the final over. Debutant Humna Bilal, who had earlier drawn the first blood for Pakistan removing Tazmin Brits, gave away six runs off the first three balls before South Africa needed two off the last ball.

At the start after opting to bat first, Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and slipped to 25-3 in 3.4 overs and then 64-6 in 9.4 overs.

Captain Fatima, batting at no.8, then held the innings together with a vital 74-run stand alongside Umm-e-Hani (13). The partnership ended in the 17th over when Umm-e-Hani fell, with Pakistan at 138-7.

Fatima went on to register a career-best T20I 90 off 41 balls, smashing nine fours and seven sixes, getting to her maiden T20I half-century. This was also the second-highest individual score for Pakistan Women’s in T20Is besides Muneeba Ali’s 102 against Ireland in South Africa in 2023.

Pakistan’s skipper brought up her half-century off 27 balls, registering the second-fastest fifty for her country. From 103-6 at the end of 15 overs, Pakistan surged to 180-9, plundering 77 runs in the last five overs, powered largely by Fatima’s late onslaught. 40 of those came in the 16th and 17th overs combined.

For South Africa, Ayanda Hlubi bagged 3-41 in her four overs while Kayla Reyneke (2-13) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (2-40) shared four wickets among them.

Currently India women and Aus women are playing in a multi format series.

Today's attendance at scg for the first first t20 match got good amount of crowd for ladies match.it seems to be around 10k mostly made up of indian fans.Slowly but surely even Indian women's team got good support from Indian fans.Eng and Aus will definitely reap this bonus. I hope indian women's team.bevome much more professional and better.

India emerging team is chasing 94 against Pakistan. Now 31/1 I am not sure umpire is happy with the action of one of the pakistan bowler's slingy action.

Pakistan women team has a couple of decent players but overall they make too many mistakes & carry passengers in every match. They are playing a T20 series against South Africa and could have won both matches but ended up losing.

In the first one, on the back of Fatima Sana 90 they managed to reach 180 but then dropped a lot of catches and were average in the field (didn't watch it, heard the commentator say they dropped 4 chances). Even after all of that, it was still a close match and they lost to a final ball six hit by Reneyka (an exciting talent from RSA who debuted in the match).

In the second one which was effected by rain, they dropped the best batter in South Africa when she was on zero. The match again went to the last over but it was relatively more comfortable in comparison to the first.

There are a couple of seniors who do not pull their weight. A player like Aliya Riaz who is considered a senior is still bang on average. Sidra also just had one brief period of form and now is back to scoring poorly. Natalya flatters to deceive and the same is true for erratic Diana (at least they dropped her from T20s). The fault also goes to the coaching as some of them still make mistakes in basic things like running between the wickets.

The good thing in the series is that they have unearthed another fast bowler who is half decent so let's see how it goes for her.

The talent in the pipeline, however, is extremely limited. Today on 15th Feb, they also had another match with India emerging and they were absolutely thrashed.
