Worcestershire v Pakistanis | Tour Match | Worcester | Jul 29-30, 2016 | Match Thread

Good for sami not make his comeback (more like a debut as he has played only 2 tests ) in England ...would be better for new players like babar sami to make their debuts in test in UAE ..eng is always tough a failure here can be career damaging

Very selfish from the management. What are they trying to prove by declaring the innings. Do they want to win the game

They want to give Imran and Sohail a chance as at least one of them will definitely replace Wahab or Rahat.

its not selfish at all, for anyone with any sense they can see exactly that its the right thing to do - the changes in the team for next game is going to be more on the bowlers than the batsmen, they need to give their bowlers some exposure in order to help decide on which to pick given they are all pretty much much of a muchness.

It's a practice game, they are not trying to win. This is for experimentation not to win.

If they are not changing any of the batsmen, then I am afraid results are bot gona be any different that Old Trafford

Becoming a bit of a parody how the ecb has consistently put out third string county attacks.

We should have just refused to play this game
And spent time in the nets as this game proves totally zero.

Most hilarious part is that there were three A teams in the country a week ago who would have given us a good game

you may well be right, but they dont have anyone in the squad really that they can use. sami aslam is 20 years old and failed today, they gave rizwan a go which is a possibility, and gave shan and ali chances to show why they shouldnt be dropped, and both limped to scores against a no name attack.

strategy wise, they did exactly all they could do for this tour game. what decision is made remains to be seen.

Lil far cry but for 3rd test can they replace keeper by the keeper.

Rizwan is not a test standard keeper. He will drop a few more chances. If he has to be in the side it has to be because of his batting..

I would argue, that even if he makes the eleven, I would make sarfaraz bat up the order and Rizwan as wicketkeeper.

Don't understand why Younis didn't play. He was our worst batsman in the two test matches imo. He should have played this practice match.

I think yk's case is a little different. He has to spend time in the nets an unlearn everything that made him succuessful in the UAE. Pakpassion's Twitter feed has a video of him at nets. Looking a lot better, no jumping and hopping. Hopefully can bring that in to the game.

He was already dancing a lot less in the 2nd innings at Old Trafford. Hopefully there is zero dancing in the 3rd test.

I don't feel optimistic with this strategy.

well there are two issues - 1) is this the right squad? and 2) given theres nothing they can do about 1) now, what strategy do they deploy with the squad in order to prepare best for the next squad with what they have.

personally i think the answer to 1) is no. the fault there lying with the inept pcb for continually hiring a total failure in haroon rashid who's legacy this squad is. inzi hasnt had enough exposure to the talent pool yet to have stamped his authority, all he could do was to go with inertia whilst he does his homework.

in terms of 2), the batting and bowling failed terribly in the last game. the only viable batting alternatives are iftikhar (ave 34 in fc), sami aslam (ave 35 in fc), rizewan (ave 42 in fc), with the existing team members most disappointing being shan and ali (younis and hafeez wont be dropped because of past performance and experience), so the strategy to play every one of those batsmen and to let them have some time in the middle was precisely the right thing to do.

on the bowling front, the guys in the squad who are available are sohail, imran and uncle zulfi; with wahab and rahat one of the two likley to make way for any replacement. so the strategy to play all these five bowlers and leave enough time in a two day game for them all to bowl to compare them again is precisely the right strategy to have deployed.

so do i think that they wil find a team from this squad that will win the series? no. but thats because of the squad and the development of the team over the past couple of years. do i think that given their squad and after the second test disaster they are doing the right thing in this side game? very shockingly - absolutely 100%.

Sarfraz so far Pakistans 2nd highest scorer in the series and people want him dropped

There is no one to look at on the bench. However Pak needs to change the policy of sticking to non-performers. There is no harm in playing youngsters in turn and there is alway a likelihood to find a long lasting performer. I would be happy if they make at least one change each in batting and bowling departments. I have no hope with Shaan Masood and Wahab in the coming tests. I can't see anything different in ODIs either.

Sri Lanka played Youngster Mendis in England and he looked good, even though he didn't score big. Today he scored 176 against a strong bowling attack of Australia

^176 is not a big score?

Sure, but the best Pakistan Under 19 batsman for decades was Babar Azam - remember his comfort as a 15 year old against Josh Hazelwood?

How Sami Aslam and Shan Masood leapfrogged him baffles - and angers- me.

I'll be surprised if that changes much.

Take about this ENG Tour -

- The official average age for the starting XI of 2 Tests is 31 years+; with the most vulnerable 2 players being the younger 2 (Rahat & Shaan, both 27)
- The official average age for the 17 men squad is around 30.

I don't think this will change much in UAE or even in WI tour. And, this is not Misbah alone, probably every Captain since Wasim, who had the guts to bring youngsters.

I see lots of expectation from Inzi, but history doesn't encourage me much. He was the most powerful Captain for Pakistan since Khan & he led for 4+ years. During that time, he had one of the best Coaches around as well to support him. Still, if I can recall correctly, in that 50 moths of his regime, three players - Riaz Afridi (Karachi), Asif (SCG) & Rehman (Karachi) made debut for PAK. May be 1/2 more but, that's it. And, I can't say it was due to lack of options - PAK made the U19 WC SF in 2000, and won it in 2004, 2006. Only Riaz Afridi played 1 Test under Inzi. Few more (like Butt, Iqbal, Kamran) played for PAK, but didn't debut under Inzi. I can name at least a dozen players now in PAK domestics, who are now around 30-35 (which means, they are in that sweet range of 19-23, during Inzi's era), but didn't get the chance.

One of the major problem in PAK cricket I see in these days is the ideal age of drafting players. There is a disclaimer of 3 to 5 years, for which great Captains like Kardar, Mushi or Khan often brought players in their teens. 16 to 21 was the official age for debutantes & I believe at lest half of the youngest 100 youngest debutantes are actually from PAK. Under Imran, players debuted at around 17/18/19 & retired (Actually played last match - PAK players don't retire) at 32-33; and we understood the reason. But, latest, PCB trend is that players are debuted at 25/26, even fast bowlers; for that most of these players are actually at their prime - already developed all sorts of bad habits & their game can hardly be polished.

I don't think, this is going to change, unless there is a change in leadership. Misbah, Azhar definitely & probably Sarfraz as well, won't risk any U23 players, let alone U19 and I don't think Inzi is going to enforce that. In March 2013, 2 years before WK, PAK's ODI team had 9 players over 30, 10th one 29 & these are official age; I am afraid, in June 2018, we'll see the same. And, it's almost scary for Test Team.
