I guess this is a joke thread but generally speaking Rahul Dravid is the real head coach of India. Shastri gets most of his products readymade with some finishing touches needed to be applied.
Baaki development used to happen under Dhoni who would help youngsters grow. Other seniors also take on this role now as they have stable places in the team and are performing at or close to the peak, so people like Kohli, Rohit, Dhawan, Ashwin, Jadeja etc can guide the younger crop.
Bharat Arun is a very underrated bowling coach and he does the bulk of the tactical work, and keeps the bowling unit in top shape.
The remaining 10% of player development is done at the IPL where kids are polished off and exposed to all the top class batsmen and bowlers.
If Pakistan wants to replicate such a system, we must begin at the U19 level where 80% of the work is done (this is where Dravid helped create Shubman Gill). Though our batting fates used to be in the hands of Ijaz Ahmed, Mohammad Yousuf has begun working with this current batch of U19 batsmen and the hope is that he can do a good technical job as he was technically astute himself.
I have been following Yousuf’s work in his short stint so far and I like the looks of it - he helped Faheem Ashraf rectify his balance and some videos posted by the PCB of his work with U19 batsmen shows he’s doing some good drills with them. Time will tell how this continues.
We must also look one level beneath and realize the need for school cricket.
