We all know Pakistan-India is one of the greatest sporting rivalries always watched with intensity and josh from the respective fans. Regional politics and our history and what drives intensity in the encounters between two nations. We know the politics currently is very hot between the nations. Would this current situation make our world cup encounter the most watched match in cricket history? Well that is if BCCI goes ahead with the game as the josh is currently with pakistani awaam.

IMPO, the only WC that I ever was really tensed was the 1996 WC QF in Bangalore. Never felt the same since then.

If the war or threats continue till June, then yes, it will be the most watched one in history with high emotions in both sides.

Nah! We all know it's going to be a one-sided match like in all the previous WC encounters! Pak would score some paltry 190 or 220ish and Indian openers would chase it down by 40th over! It's going to be one boring encounter but I definitely want India to play and get those 2 easy points and not gift them in the name of political-situation.

Of course one sided just like the champions trophy final
Hope you dont leave early again

india are a rubbish team

Feel free to come up with 1000 excuses for a hammering by a Kohli less India in Asia cup.

You mean in the same tournament where we played a weak team and one that struggled against Afghanistan and lost to Bangladesh convincingly?

You should be happy you managed to beat us after nearly being embarrassed by Hong Kong.

We all saw what happened to Kohli when there was a hint of pressure in the Champions trophy.

What weak team? Fakhar, Babar, Amir, Shadab, Malik, Sarfaraz all of them played. Try again.

a team missing key players messes up the balance when their replacements aren't good enough.

the fact of the matter is nobody is going to remember the asia cup year or two from now but everyone will always remember the thrashing india got in the ct 2017

Do you understand English? Which key players from your team were missing?

Wasim Akram, Waqar, Miandad, Razzaq, Syed Anwar, Akthar and oh wait! Didn't all these key players play against India in the previous WC encounters and got the thrashing of their lives? He must be talking about some pre-independent era Pak Key players then! :)))

Imad Wasim against India is a key player? :))) Forgot what Pandya did to him during CT match? :)))

pandya smashed zaman and shadab... imad didn't even bowl in that match, he bowled 3 balls before zaman took over.

and yes he is a key player, bowls economically and is a decent bat.

i won't be responding to anymore of your posts because you seem to lack any knowledge regarding pakistan and india cricketing affairs.

before laughing idiotically at least try to make sure whatever you are posting has any merit.

Isn't this Imad who bowled to Pandya and got the thrashing of his life during the group match? Oh!Wait! Only the CT Final matters to most of the pak bros here! :)))

india will always remember pointless group games that have no impact in the grander scheme of things.

fact of the matter remains, india is a weak team that rightfully got thrashed and will always crumble when there is a hint of pressure.

If it happens, Pak vs Ind WC 2019 game will be LIT

Whatever happens in politics, after years we will have a game where it’s no long dosti dosti but foul language , aggression, passion just like in the 1980s and 90s

Yes i would think so. Even though Kargil happened, 1999 wasn't that tense because that game firstly, didn't matter much to Pakistan as they were virtually through to the semi finals anyways and secondly, there was no tiff between the players.

Today, Indian cricketers have openly given statements against Pakistan and that adds a lot of tension.

India is by far the superior team and a defeat that too in the World Cup against Pakistan where they've never lost, could actually have a huge psychological dent to the rest of their group games. I would say it is a must win game for India more than it is for Pakistan.

I was still a kid in '99, but remember that things were not that tense. Yes, Kargil was going on, but that was in the age before social media - people did not have the awareness that they have now of what is happening.

Pakistan were also in a good position, with a good team. India were mediocre back then, and you felt, or at least I did, that Pakistan were favourites, and India were not much of a threat.

Today, things are a lot more charged up. You have real time access to news and media from both sides, who paint different pictures. The game is also a lot closer....both sides can win on their day.

But its in 3 months time, so a lot can change by then.

In 2004, the whole perspective changed from two countries on the brink, to best friends forever with Jeet Lo Dil.

Wish I had tickets....

That is why we have 9 global trophies while you have four. Makes sense.

In contrary to the many voices, Haryana sports minister Anil Vij on Saturday expressed that the Indian cricket team should play the ICC World Cup 2019 match against Pakistan in England. The match is scheduled to take place on June 16 in Manchester. Vij feels that a walkover would only benefit Pakistan's chances of making it through to the knockout stage of the tournament.

The debate surrounding the anticipated and high-octane cricketing clash had kicked off in the wake of the dastardly Pulwama attack that had claimed the lives of 44 CRPF personnel. While veterans like Harbhajan Singh and Mohammad Azharuddin feel that India should boycott the Pakistan game at the Old Trafford, legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar want the team to play the match and extend their unbeaten streak against Pakistan.

Vij too spoke on the lines of Gavaskar and Sachin's statement in an interview with Mail Today.

"See, India should not play the bilateral series with Pakistan or any series between the two. But ICC World Cup is a multinational event and India should play, no matter what country they face. Why should we back out? India should play and thrash Pakistan completely in the major event," the minister said.

"But yes, I would also want say that the matter will be decided later by the Indian government and the board (BCCI)," he added.

Earlier in the day, the International Cricket Council (ICC) turned down BCCI's urge to sever ties with Pakistan on grounds of harbouring terrorists. ICC has made it clear that no associate member can be ruled out of World Cup participation. ICC also clarified that the board has no role to play in this matter however ICC did address the security concern for Indian cricket team and the fans in World Cup raised by BCCI.

pathetic how one of the greatest pak teams assembled failed to chase down 220 odd.

I didn't even feel the '99 defeat. We were not far from qualifying for the semis and India had to win, even Shoaib was bowling well within himself that match. The match never appealed to me that much anyway, the novelty factor wasn't there because just before the world cup Pak thrashed India in India and then easily won the Sharjah trophy against India and England.

Exactly. Matches pre 2003 in the world Cup between the two nations never had much of a lasting impact because the two sides often played each other elsewhere.

More people discuss Pakistan loss to Bangladesh than the match with India.

Interesting to read that pak vs india matches were not that tense back then, but one thing that could be noticed is that when Pakistan was doing good PCB didn't act like jerks like the Indians have post 2010.

So India will play Pakistan after all?

In 99 I was at Old Trafford( During the time of Kargil) and i saw one of the most disgusting performances i have seen in my life and the worst of the players was Inzi and his brain dead batting where blocking Robin Singh, Jadega and Tendulkar was the great plan. Our Players were so much better on paper but the Inds had the passion and smashed us. Please PK win or lose but at least play with a passion.

I hope Pak shows up for that match and not be a dud like Asia Cup.

As the much weaker team, hope Pakistan don't falter mentally this time. It's not a war but hope Pak can take some inspiration from the military especially the PAF for their heroics under such dangerous conditions. India always seem to be cool and collected in these encounters, we need to match them and more.

This Pakistan team is young, United and wants to go out and express itself. Prior encounters always have an effect on your psych but I think with Amir, Shaheen, Hasan, Inzi, Fakher and Babar, we have a chance. If Malik and Hafeez can do their part in middle overs, I think India will have tough time defeating this Pak team.
