Jack Leaning is eyeing up a winter T20 contract to play in Bangladesh or Pakistan, or even both.

The Yorkshire batsman has put his name up for auction for the Bangladesh Premier League before Christmas and the Pakistan Super League afterwards.

Leaning admits it is a long shot to get picked up by a team, but he is hoping someone will “take a punt” having shown his capabilities for the Vikings.

The 23-year-old has regularly cleared the ropes at the back end of an innings, with a healthy strike rate of 150 this season in a haul of 161 runs which doesn’t quite tell the full tale of his contribution to the cause.

“I’m not totally sure yet what will be happening,” said the York based player of his winter plans.

“I’ve put my name forward for a couple of T20 auctions around the world, in Bangladesh and Pakistan, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens with them.

“I’m not holding my breath, but you never know what might come up on the off chance.

“If not, I’ll potentially go away somewhere else for a period of time. We’ll see what happens.”

On his development as a T20 player, he said: “I think it’s one of the strongest aspects of my game at the moment.

“I have the ability to go in and strike the ball a long way from ball one. It’s a strength, and something I’ve worked hard on. Hopefully someone around the world might think ‘We need a little bit of that’ and take a punt.

“If I can get my foot in the door, I’d be confident of making it count.”

Today sees the start of a three-match T20 series between Pakistan and a World XI in Lahore, aimed at paving the way for more international cricket to be played in Pakistan.

Security is a key issue surrounding tours to and competitions in Pakistan and Bangladesh, although Leaning is happy to travel to both having been given assurances.

“I know what to expect there,” he said of Bangladesh, having toured there with the England under 19s in 2012.

“I also think they are looking to take a lot more cricket back to Pakistan, and the feedback we’ve had as players from the tournament itself is that all the security is as high as it can be.”

The PSL final of 2017 was played in Lahore earlier this year, with the majority of the competition played in the United Arab Emirates.

Next year, it is expected a similar thing will happen, although with more matches to be played in Pakistan.

Leaning added: “If they’re looking to taking cricket back to Pakistan, which can only be a good thing, I’d love to be a part of it.”

His stats are decent but far from impressive. 33 FC average @ 44 SR, 32 LA average @ 82 SR. His T20 numbers are pretty solid. 29 average at a strike rate of 138.
