Here’s two hypothetical teams using people unpicked in this year’s draft for the PSL. Explain to me why these won’t go toe to toe with every other team in PSL 6.

Hyderabadi Badhshahs
1. Abdul Wahid Bangalzai
2. Ahmed Shehzad
3. Danushka Gunathilaka ✈️
4. Saif Badar
5. Mohammad Haris (wk)
6. Dwayne Bravo (c) ✈️
7. Hassan Khan
8. Moeen Ali ✈️
9. Sandeep Lamichhane ✈️
10. Junaid Khan
11. Zeeshan Zameer

Sialkot Stallions
1. Abdullah Shafique
2. Ali Imran
3. Dawid Malan ✈️
4. Mohammad Akhlaq
5. Umer Amin (c)
6. Niroshan Dickwella (wk) ✈️
7. Mubasir Khan
8. Mustafizur Rehman ✈️
9. Morne Morkel ✈️
10. Sameen Gul
11. Umer Khan

Still not picked: Ahsan Ali, Nasir Nawaz, Hasan Mohsin, Saud Shakeel, Abdul Faseeh

Explain to me why these two hypothetical teams won’t go toe to toe with the other teams in the draft? And mind you, this is assuming these teams only got the leftovers, rather than participate in the draft!

6 is just not enough!

They not good enough.

Just because you squeezed Ahmed Shehzad and Moeen Ali and made retired DJ captain.

6 teams high octane quality - already ISLU look like a dream team imagine they got Rashid Khan too. Rest 5 team would have been bowling machines and here we want 2 more.

Max 1 extra team and that’s Sialkot Stallions next.

The English players didn’t get picked because of England’s tour of India. It is important to take that into consideration when looking at unpicked players.

6 teams are enough. Pakistani local players are dreadful and PSL’s shoestring budget attracts very few top foreign players in their peaks.

8 teams would only stretch PSL’s mediocrity instead of adding quality.

I think 7 would be a good number with 12 matches per team each season. I think that 8 would make it a pretty long tournament however, I wont mind it if the management thinks its the way to go.

Definitely PCB needs to think about expanding the league as while any new team will get the share of the pie, it will also increase the size of the pie and will increase the overall brand value.

I think adding more teams would be overkill specially since PSL starts in February and just before IPL who have sanctioned a 10 team league for 2022, most players might not want to commit to two long T20 leagues in succession.

The problem is 6 teams, 8 teams or 10 teams. Many of the picks are pre-arranged and pre-agreed between players, teams and others who are there behind the scenes who broker the deals.

There will always be many dodgy selections with deserving players missing out, because many people benefit from these selections financially.

It's fine Thunderbolt14.

It gives them more freedom to focus on their game development. Worst thing for a youngster is to watch whole tournament while sitting in the dugout.

Uncertainty is the biggest hindrance in development. These are young players and I am in a way happy for them going unpicked. Its much better than a selection where they go through psychological trauma of expectations and hopes.

Last season, Imad Wasim didn't bother to use Umar khan even for one over.

Personally I feel 1 more team should be added to the PSL - the return of the Stallions.

Sialkot Stallions Squad (SSS):-

Shahid Afridi (c)
Imran Nazir
Saud Shakeel
Abdullah Shafique
David Wiley ✈️
Zeeshan Malik
Raza Hasan
Bilal Asif
Shakib ul Hasan✈️
Zia ul Haq
Chris Morris ✈️
Mustafizur Rahman ✈️
Sameen Gul
Mukhtar Ahmed
Umar Akmal (wk)
—————————————
Starting XI

Imran Nazir
Zeeshan Malik
Saud Shakeel
Shakib ul Hasan ✈️
Umar Akmal (wk)
Shahid Afridi (c)
Chris Morris ✈️
David Wiley✈️
Mustafizur Rahman✈️
Raza Hasan
Sameen Gul

Now, the beauty of this squad is that you’ve got some of the players that made the Stallions so successful.

Very Important Point

How many players other than maybe Nawaz and Umer Khan warrant selections for PSL? And that's being generous on Umer Khan since he was pretty bad in the T20 during domestic season.

Guys like Saud/Sameen etc are FC type players, not T20's. And frankly, I would rather not see Saud get selected, play poorly and then not get selected in ODI's/Test format because he is "out of form" for not being good in T20's. Sameen Gul is literally only a Test specialist. His domestic numbers outside of FC are horrific. Mubasir is extremely young into his career and I'd rather have him focus on longer formats anyways.

And does anybody really care if Ahsan Ali/Amin/Shehzad aren't selected? They are just domestic guys at this point.

Nasir Nawaz is the only I would have liked to seen selected since because he is an explosive batsmen and someone that should be on the radar for the selectors. I think he does need to spend at least a season before being considered for the National team but this would be a good experience for him.

No. Keep our youngsters away from this circus and get them playing more FC cricket.

Both squads are pathetic!

unless pcb manages to pull some shaheen tours out the hat theres no more first class cricket for ten months.

is playing t20 worse than playing no cricket at all?

not advocating more t20 teams, advocating a longer first class season fwiw.

I don't want to see PSL ever have more than 6 teams, unless they go the BBL/T20 blast route where the international team is still playing while the PSL is on in the back with low quality players.

Also those teams prove to me that 6 teams is enough.

Hit balls in the nets, watch footage, work with MoYo at the HPC. All better options than having their technique wrecked in this tamasha.

Haider Ali is already deteriorating thanks to overdose of meaningless T20s.

And even more importantly, workout, get stronger, fitter, faster and in better condition.

not playing in the psl wont make pak youngsters better test players, on the contrary there is little evidence that playing psl has harmed babar, shaheen, fahim or rizwan.

the younger core of paks test team are all psl regulars. if anything the advantages of being in a competitive environment which altho not international standard, is definitely better than domestic level is a massive opportunity for these guys, if they fail to avail it that a separate matter.

the real issue of lack of development is that the pcb ensures that all players are available for a t20 league, but not for first class. the key to improving you players test skills is more competitive first class experience, not less t20 experience imo.
