Younis Khan has agreed to coach the Afghan Cricket team after his retirement from Pakistan cricket, Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman Atif Mashal said on Thursday.

While speaking to DawnNews Mashal said, "Younis has agreed to coach the Afghan cricket team and the board is currently finalising the contract."

Khan is currently playing his final international Test match against West Indies.

On April 23, the 39-year-old right hander became the first Pakistani to score 10,000 Test runs in his 116th Test match played against West Indies.

Last year Younis Khan scored 218 runs against England at the Oval was his sixth double century, a Pakistan record that he now shares with Javed Miandad.

Among all batsmen who have scored at least 8,000 runs in tests, Younis Khan has the fifth highest average. Only Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Kumar Sangakkara, and Sir Gary Sobers average more than Younis.

The Afghan cricket team has previously been coached by the likes of Inzamam ul Haq, Rashid Latif and Kabir Khan.

So he wont be helping PCB? Looks like PCB slow in making an offer

2017-2019 Coach of Afghanistan

Pakistan perforns poor in 2019 WC.

Younis will be hired as a coach of pakistan team, post 2019 WC

Younis should replace Inzamam as chief selector along with some new faces like Bazid Khan, Md. Wasim. He has better understanding of cricket than Inzamam. Inzamam should be coach of Afghanistan.

that will be the same as Donald Trump's Cabinet.

All the people in the Pak team will be sycophants who praise team man

Good for Afghan cricket and for Younis who will be somewhere he is appreciated for once, the selfish and ungrateful pakistani people do not deserve him.

We are selfish and ungrateful??? why because he is still playing of Pakistan? He should be grateful that he is still playing for Pakistan at this age. No cricket board let their player play after the age of 36 or so except us.

no quite the oppiste, younis doesn't deserve the reputation he has fashioned

Outstanding player and also deeply egotistical selfish man who takes everything as an insult against his honour, disaster recipe for a coach.

Very good decision

If he is good enough there then we could take him back with a better contract. If he isnt good then we dont have to give him a contract.

Yes you are extremely selfish and ungrateful fans, he should donate his 10K runs to Bangladesh or Afghanistan; you lot are everything you hate and so much more. Younis Khan does not owe you all anything but he gave so much so bow. #Peasants

we also gave younis khan 4 world cups, we let him black mail us on national tv, we have put up with repeated needed outbursts

Its people like you who are the reason why so many Pak players are rotten.

without fans where can a player go ?

Younis along with Afridi and Amir, owes more to fans than anyone other player in Pakistan despite every wrong thing he has done, blackmailed his nation, beaten up fans, gone awol, we fans continue to pretend he is a saintly team man because we are desperate for a white knight

and yet all the above could have been avoided had we a strong, independent and professionally run governing body.

Typical response from an ignorant, selfish and ungrateful pakistani fan; Khan earned everything through his hardwork, you gave him nothing. The only thing which fans have given him is disrespect.

let them cry..yunus is the true servant of the nation and we are proud of him...

yes agreed, though such a body would ended younis's career a long time ago, so lets not act like this is a one sided problem

who is selfish and ungrateful, a fan, or a player who threaten to shoot himself and to retire from a stronger format if he isnt picked in a format that he is awful in, all done on national tv. Tell me again whats more selfish, going fishing when your team is away on tough forgein tours, ingnoring pleas from your captain, or being a fan.

I thought he was going to coach our u19 kids?

Only in Pakistan, greats of the game are given send off in a disrespectful way by the fans.

Thank you Younis Khan, you have been an awful ODI player but a Great Great Test player for Pakistan.

He on merit deserves to be compared with Miandad and Haneef Muhammad. I can't confidently say the same for Yousaf, Inzamam etc.

Pakistan fans are deluded, think YK owes his career to these leeches who have done nothing but disrespect him. He will get nothing but love and respect in Afghanistan. Afghans I know are already very happy at this news.

Does this mean that the entire team will take an oath and refuse to work with him?

a majority of Pakistanis are like little kids with their mentality.

They will have a toy or something and not play with it at all, but as soon as another kid wants it then all of a sudden they start whining.

YK served Pak well and he is free to do what he likes. All the best to the man, he doesn't need anyones permission.

Good decision. Pakistanis need to help them as much as possible. All these rubbish claims of hosting afghan refugees and doing a favour to them should stop,

Frankly speaking, Younis Khan has the capability of becoming a brilliant coach but an EVEN BETTER batting coach would be Misbah Ul Haq and that's because he's played in different generations and knows all about the aspects of batting. And then comes in the fact that he's an educated man. I expect Misbah to make big, big money coaching IPL or even international teams after his retirement.

The fans who go overboard with their criticisms are everything they hate and more, no biggie there we should pamper ATG talent a bit given their incredible contributions. So what if he went fishing, I take a break from work every now and then; he is a human being. The fans are so selfish and ungrateful, can't even let a man fish in peace

You guys are awesome, spot on there!

Few really pathetic post here about Younis khan such immature and childish post and the poster should be banned. 0 knowledge of cricket and posting like they are crickting mastero. Younis khan is our lagend and we should respect his services.

Younis brushes off reports linking him to Afghanistan role

Younis Khan, the former Pakistan skipper, will not take up a coaching role with Afghanistan at the end of his Test career later this week, Wisden India has learnt.

Shukrullah Atif Mashal, the chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, had been reported to have said earlier on Thursday (May 11) that Younis, who is currently playing his last Test match against West Indies in Roseau, had agreed to coach the Afghanistan national team upon retirement.

But Younis moved swiftly to deny the potential move, telling a Pakistan television channel, “I don’t know where it (this news) has come from. It was 2012 or 2013 when Afghan officials approached me with a role as batting advisor but I was playing at that time. I have no intention of going to Afghanistan.”

lol Younis is not getting an international coaching spot right out of the gate. Besides Afghanistan won't fire their coach given their form over the past year.

This isnt fake news by dawn, this is fake news by the ACB representative.

Dawn always have proper sources, even op dawn mentioned who they were told by about this.

Dawn news has credibility

Dawn is usually good, but they don't have every matter's experts.

The recent story that they pathetically run about a pilot sleeping on airplane, which is ABSOLUTELY NORMAL and done in every major long haul airline.

That took off a lot of their credibility.
