What's new

Your earliest memory of an international cricket game?

99 WC... Wasim Akram ripping out Damien Martyn's off-pole who was the final hurdle in between Pakistan and victory against Australia in the group match.

2007 WT20.

Don’t judge-I was only 7.

First game I watched live at the stadium was Pakistan vs India in the Asia Cup 2008

It was the English tour of the Caribbean in 2004. Other than that, really can’t remember any detail.

Pak vs SA 98. My earliest vivid recollection is watching Azhar Mahmood score a ton against SA. I am sure I have watched the game even before that but just not able to gather anything other than some vague thoughts.

Watching the celebrations of Pakistan winning the t20 cricket World Cup 2009 on Geo, didn't get into the game until the 2010 South Africa ODI series where Razzaq scored one of the best centuries of all time.

Cricket wasn't really in the family so got into it late.

92 world cup, Pakistan vs New Zealand. Pakistan batted second, one of their batsman got retired hurt ( Miandad probably, all I remember is that he had a mustache lol) and then came back to win the match for his team.

Don't remember the exact match but it was during Kapil Dev's final years.

Pakistan vs India match in 2006 where Inzamam got out obstructing the field. Shoaib Malik was my favorite player.

1987. I was more like a 7 or 8 yr old.

I remember watching the India-England SF and then Aus-Eng final.

After that, never really cared about cricket until 1992. Even then, I only watched parts of it. Remember Jonty Rohodes runout and Ajay Jadeja's catch against Aussies and then Kapil Dev taking the wicket of Inzamam ul haq caught by Kiran More I think.

1992 WC made me a big fan of cricket.

I remember visuals from the 1996 World Cup, but I was not old enough to have a conscious understanding of what was happening.

That tri-series in Australia in 1997 is probably my first real memory - loved those blue pants. However, my favorite 'early' memory is Ijaz taking India to the cleaners in Lahore. What a brutal innings it was.

I have a very vivid memory of Saeed Anwar's 194 against India, I was 5 years old & those images are so blurred in my mind that I am not even sure about the validity of that memory. :P What I am sure of is WC'99 group match between Pakistan & Australia, I was totally not allowed to stay awake past 9 PM but I begged my parents to let me watch the match till end. When Pakistan finally won, I laid my prayer mat & thanked ALLAH for that amazing win. My fate as a crazy supporter of PCT was sealed that day. I repeated the act before the final match also, though it turned out really bad for all of us.

When India under Sourav Ganguly ended the test winning streak of Steve waugh's Australia at the Eden gardens.

Don't exactly remember which game have a vivid memory of the 92 WC I think I was 4 years old so might be it's not a true memory as pictures are not very clear..

From clear memories I would say 96 WC, I am pretty sure I had watched cricket before 96 WC as well since I remember teasing my sister when WI lost to Kenya (as Laa was her favourite) and mine was Sachin so I'm sure I have watched Sachin before for him to be my favourite.. But I don't really have clear memory of his matches before 96 WC..

Earliest probably 2003 world cup final. Ponting's hundred in that game is probably one of my favourite ODI performances of all time (and not just because it was against India :P). Earliest Pakistan game would be against India in 2004 Samsung series 1st ODI, India winning by 5 runs. I didn't see it live on tv but watched the highlights a few days after and every time the highlights for that game came on I only watched when Inzi and Yousuf were batting.

yes remmber it but that was not my first,,,indian bowling was a brigade ot thundlers ,,very ordinary and i think afridi di well too.

Taken by my father to the 2001 Natwest Trophy England vs Pakistan. Absolute thriller of a match with England needing 3 runs off the last ball bowled by Saqlain which ended up stumping Andrew Caddick for an amazing victory. Everything from the atmosphere to the weather to the game was absolutely perfect. I went to school the next day with hardly any voice left :)

The six by moin khan in 1992 WC Semi Final. Never thought it 'll go all the way to six.

My first memory is the 1996 WC, Pakistan vs South Africa (the only group game we lost). The first full game I watched was later in that tournament, Pak v Ind QF. That's when I knew cricket was more than a game :P

A flash back of Pakistan's tour of England in 92 and Shoaib Akhtar / Wasim causing havoc during the 99 WC

my earliest exposure to watch cricket on tv that I remember ,was 1996 World Cup. I might have seen cricket before that too but did not remember. Waseem bowling in a match , Saeed anwar playing against holland ,and then west indies vs Australia semifinal are few of my earliest cricket memories .

Pakistan upsetting South Africa in 2015WC I have supported Sarfraz even since that 49. I remember everyone going crazy after he hit those 3 sixes against JP Duminy, and everyone lost it when Sohail khan dismissed AB. Though I do remember some old game in around 2009 or 2010 vs Aus I don't remember it clearly though.

The first game I watched was the 2011 WC game against SL but in terms of an early memory I'd say was an ODI back in 2003-2004 and I saw Shoaib Akhtar and Abdul Razzaq's name on a scorecard.

The 1991/92 Sharjah game between India and Pakistan when Sachin got out after scoring 49. This was the game which was played with the players not able to see the ball because of bad light. India lost the game.

My father listening to radio commentary for the 1981 India-England Test series played in India. I (now) know it was super dull. :) Apparently the most interesting part of the series was Geoffery Boycott being sent home in the middle of the series! He never played for England again (went to rebel tour to RSA in 1982).

I actively started watching cricket 1983 onward. It all started with the memorable WC win!

WI tour of Pakistan in 1990

Wasim and Waqar were absolutely lethal in both tests and ODIs

As a child Waqar's bowling action, pace, and wickets were the coolest thing I had ever seen.

Jadeja hitting waqar for two sixes in the final overs...
QF 1996 world cup where i started watching cricket.

98/99 shoaib akhtar bowing sachin and dravid in successive deliveries in kolkata test i beliece.

Around same time period, waqar younis bowling lance klusener in odi seriea in sharjah with south africa needing something like 36 off 5 overs with 5 wickets in hand and pakistan going on to win the match with the help of waqar/akram.

Tri series between Pak, Aus and Westindies. I think it was in 2004 or 2005 . Kamran Akmal made 120 something in one of the games.

Have some vague memory of Kambli scoring a hundred in a test match with the TV in the background. Also have some visuals of the 94 Hero cup win.

But I properly got into cricket during the 1996 WC, and my first proper match was India vs Kenya (India's first match of the WC)

1992 world cup, was 4 years old back then. My school teacher made me sing 1992 world cup 'who rule the world' coz I sorta learnt it by heart. I remember my dad and my uncles used to watch these matches by waking up early in the morning on the weekends..

Sidhus 201 in West Indies . He was not out 199* when stumps.. Next day he added 201 then play down

Pakistan v India final in Sharjah 1991. The one where Aqib Javed took 7/37 including a hattrick. I went to the match with my elder brother and cousins.

Pakistan's first ever Test in SA at Durban 1998 - Waqar cleaning up Boucher who almost won it from a hopeless position for South Africa. :waqar

As a five year old, i vaguely remember a young Sachin smacking NZ bowlers around when they toured here in 1995. then visuals from the 1996 World Cup though these aren't clear either.

Vaguely remember some visuals of Pakistan vs Zimbabwe 1992 WC but proper recollections of cricket matches started with the Carlton and United Series in Australia in 1995/96. Wasn't much into cricket back then. Preferred hockey and tennis any day. Fully remember our 1994 hockey world cup win. I went to school on the final and asked my mom to record the match on our VCR. Came back at 1:30pm from school to see the final penalty shootout. We might still have the fully taped match on video cassette in our house somewhere.

Inzamam 148 vs England at Lords, even remember Ijaz being bowled round his legs to make it 12-2 before the Big Easy came to the crease :)

somewhere in 1999 WC - in particular the image I remember is Wasim consistently talking to Saqlain, who was destroying batting line ups in the group stage

WT20 2007.... I was also 7 years old Arham_PakFan
Since then i have been addicted to this game.

Misbah’s shot in the 2007 T20 final however I was not able to comprehend fully of what happened.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2009 World Cup final is my earliest memory I could comprehend and enjoy.

A Sharjah Cup Final in early 90s. MenInG should be able to recall it.
iirc it was Waqar Younis defending 2 runs off last two balls with 9 down when throughout the last over camera had kept on focusing two girls praying for a Pakistan Win and Waqar bowled the last batsman. Those scenes became an epic icon back then.

And Aqib's Match.

The 8th game of VB series(although I remember seeing hafeez bowl in the earlier games) 2004-5 where razzaq won it for us(I guess was announced on scoreboard just before the end of that match that Razzaq is MOTM) and after that we went to India and performed well(watched all the games and remember my elder brother saying "Aus ka tour bohat tough hota hay un say jo team khail ker aati hay woh agli series achi khailti hay").Have to admit that never have I enjoyed watching cricket more than in that 2005 Ind Pak series.I was only 7 back then

Some Glimpses....

Miandad famous Six
PAK vs WI somewhere in 1987
PAK vs Ind somewhere in 1990

Complete Memory
1992 World Cup... What a great memory :D

I don't remember much of it, but I went to a match at National Stadium in Karachi at about 2006-ish, Pakistan vs. West Indies. Pakistan won if I remember correctly. I had no idea which players were playing haha and wasn't all that into the cricket part of the game but i loved being in the crowd. I hope to go to another match soon!

Miandad ka Chakka in Sharjah..watched the entire Pak inninngs ball to ball..etched in my memory

1992 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. And a better introduction to this wonderful game I can't imagine.

1999 WC when Pakistan were playing Scotland with me asking my dad: "are Pakistan winning" and he nodded back. All I could grasp was who was who looking at the team colours. This is when I was 8!

2000 I actually managed to understand the basics and this new love for the game was established when I went to Pakistan after observing the obsession of the game on the streets and at night watching likes of Inzy, Wasim, Saeed, MoYo and etc play WI in the Caribbean. It was at this point when I also asked my old man to let me join a team that year. Miss the days of playing at district level cricket!

2000-2007 era was far better era for international cricket. Even as a kid who was at the time 8-16 years of age during this period could see this.

Probably that of Vinod Kamble smoking Shane Warne for 20 runs in an over. Dont know if this was before of after the 96 WC.

First 'understood' the sport in the 2003 Cricket wc, but I don't remember much.

Seriously started watching the sport since 2005.

My most memorable earliest scenery was Bangladesh victory lap after winning maiden test match against Zimbabwe in 2005.

And this song was on TV after the win..

First memory: 1992 wc final winning moments, just remember my father’s both hands in air
First partial match: 1996 wc Pakistan vs England. Ejaz played good
First FULL Match: 1996 WC Quarter Final Pakistan vs India Banglore

Some very interesting first international games mentioned above. Many lucky that they saw these games on TV/Live - in my early days, it was all radio - and bad reception at that!

What's worse listening on the radio or watching 1970s level coverage by PTV in 2017?

It's not that bad. :P

I remember coming home from school in 2005 and having the radio on, listening to Afridi blast the Indian bowlers at Kanpur. :afridi

Radio was actually a life-saver during school. Internet access was uncommon so I remember sneaking to the kitchen (where there was a radio) during breaks to catch up with the action.
