What's new

Your Pakistan ODI squad for West Indies series?

I dont think Hassan, Rizwan, or Nawaz would be dropped. So you can increase your count to 12

hassan nawaz and rizwan.. for.umar I am not sure.. if he can perform in t20s then he is sure shot. how they will slot umar is also a problem..

Shahzaib Hassan who is karachi blues opening batsman should be included in the T20 squad, Plus he is in form. Sohail Khan, fast bowler who can bat. Mohammed Asghar, left arm spinner who is also a tremendous fielder, and Ali Imran Pasha, fast medium bowler, who has an action very similar to waqar and can swing the ball both ways. these four players should be included in the 20twenty and one day squad.

Hasan Ali will definitely be picked. I would like Mohammad Irfan to play, he nearly won the 4th ODI v England for us but he just got injured unfortunately

Absolute shocking - even all 120 dots at that rate is 24 crore. Still the balance of payment doesn't favor that deal considering the potential of next 10-12 years.

Why I feel anxious with many other players (not only from PAK), is that these deals are result of entrapment long back in early days of career - now the players are almost obliged to obey.

1) Imam ul Haq
2) Fakhar Zaman

Well the case may open up why they agreed to fix. I couldn't believe Allan on commentary when the announcement was made, Sharjeel of all the people? What a shame, tragic, shock and horror. Whatever you say is less....

Wait till PSL is over to see how Azhar, Shafiq, Shehzad and Zaman perform.

I don't this will be justice with Junaid he just had one series we need to give him at least 3 series to see how he is doing

the guy is all over the place and can't even make it to the Zalmi playing 11

just because a mistake was made in selecting him, doesn't mean we have to keep making that same mistake

I don't think a mistake was made in his selection. He bowled really well in 3 out of the 4 ODIs he played in Australia, and picked up top order wickets of Warner and Khawaja.

International performance trumps performance in PSL. We all remember how Umar Akmal was the top scorer of the PSL last time round and then immediately after we had the World T20 where he couldn't buy a run to save his life.

Besides it would be injustice to drop someone from the ODI side based on the performance of domestic T20. That is like dropping Azhar Ali from the test side if he fails in the PSL (see how dumb that sounds?)

The selection committee is making mistake by selecting Hafeez, Nawaz, UA, Rahat Ali (ODI) these are the players I said are useless in the team. On the other hand, Junaid gave tough time to opposition on the tour of Australia our fast bowler are getting unlucky due to our pathetic fielding

they made the mistake by selecting lala because he was not performing they made mistake by selecting Mibah knowing he was useless in ODI there is list of mistake they made so I dont know they can make another mistake by selecting Junaid and give him atleast 3 to 4 tours

Agree PSL should not be the selection criteria we don't have huge talent coming up neither in bowling nor in batting

and yes I forgot to mention one more mistake selecting a 40-year-old youngster in ISLU when all the world leagues are moving to younger generation we are still persisting with Baba Ji. Look at IPL Chahal, Pant, Sanju Samson and not only India other countries are also taking advantage by sending their youngsters we have an example of David warner.

Hopefully, no more surprise awaiting.

This is a high time that PAK looks for openers who can play bouncy balls & can time the ball through off side, rather than slog it through leg. All that hype with Sharjeel was because he was like a fresh breeze compared to Azhar, MoHa opening pair. In T20, he is a great loss, but considering his fitness & inability to last much beyond 50 balls, I don't think it's a big loss in ODI - at least not that he is irreplaceable.

I'll always pick a left right opening combo - it' not the best 2 openers, rather best lefti & best right hander should open. It's such an irritation to bowl constantly at left right combo that it almost counts for 5/6 extra runs. There should be a lefti in middle order as well & if possible in late middle order, so that almost always there is a left right pair - that'll stress the fielding Captain as well, because he'll have to manage over rate.

Team must have 2/3 all-rounders & 3 specialist fast bowlers in playing XI, considering the next 3 ICC events in next 4 years are in UK, UK & AUS. This is the time to start a team from scratch - may be it'll result in playing WC qualifier, but it can't end up average 35 years old team turning for a young men's game.

My 16 member team for WI will be

1. Ahmed
2. Amin (Or the best lefti - may be Fakhar, Imam, Zain)
3. Babar**
4. Haris (Subject to fitness, but he is playing in PSL, so should be fit enough in 7 weeks)
5. +Sarfu*
6. Malik
7. Imad
8. Shadab Khan (I'll pick the best leggi - if it happens to be Yasir or Shadab, doesn't mind, but a genuine leggi is must - great if that leggi can bat)
9. Amir
10. Hasan
11. JK (or the best U25 new ball bowler, won't mind if any of the 4/5 U23 bowlers doing well in this FC season)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12. +Umar (Makes the team as back-up WK, just in case - will fight for No. 6 with Mian). There is no one outstanding in domestics, but I won't mind if Inzi picks that U19 WK for this tour - won't start, but a great exposure for a genuine world class prospect.
13. Saad Ali (His domestic stats must he honored & he is a lefti middle order)
14. Back up opener (Anyone between Shahzaib, Fakhar, Zain, Imam, Ahsan - I'll take a lefti, because Babar & Sarfu can also work as make shift opener, just in case)
15. All-rounder - can be one of Hammad, Fahim, Yamin, Saud or Aga Salman. My pick is Aga Salman as he is the off spin back-up of Mian. Saud should focus to make the team as batsman, who bowls a bit - he'll compete for Haris's place in future.
16. A fast bowler - won't mind totally new face like Sameen Gul, Hamza, Adil or anyone new - not impressed by the Irfan guy.

I didn't select KAkmal, because that will set a bad precedence - MoHa will try to use it in future. While, Wahab was never an ODI bowler, now he shouldn't be even considered for shorter versions. Hasan is a potential very good bowler in last overs - what PAK needs is a new ball partner of Amir, preferably right arm & great if he can push Hasan at 11.

I picked Shadab on potential - Yasir could have been one of the better ODI spinners, but his time has gone by. Idea is to play the best genuine leggi, who can get middle orders out. Shadab has the potential with ball & he can bat - what he must not do is try to become bits & pieces all-rounder. It's his 10 overs bowling that will keep him in playing XI & his batting will add value to bottom half - not other way. Amin must he given lots of overs in nets, so that in next 2 ICC events, he can bowl 3-5 overs with semi new ball & share last 10 overs with Imad - he has to be developed as the seem equivalent of Malik.

I don't like specialist batsman as Captain, at least he should be a batting all-rounder, but Sharjeel probably has killed any chance of Amir to be the deputy of the team or lead ever, therefore I haven't considered him. Ideally, it should be Ahmed as Deputy, but I go for Babar, because he is only among 3/4 players who are automatic choice. He looks slow, because he is a touch player - but a stat of 53/90 after 25 match is as good as it comes from a No. 3 & these stats are not cashed like Azhar.

I would go with some out of the box selections and check for 2 to 3 series that will they work or not. If they work, then it can be very good for Pakistan till the upcoming world cup, otherwise, we can always go back to orthodox selections.

1- Ahmed Shehzad (He is in very good form and deserves a chance.)
2- Shoaib Malik (We can not use him properly in lower middle order or I should say that he is not that type of batsman who will fire in lower order. Yes, I know that he is not too good against pace but after 2,3 overs he adjusts himself according to the pace and one thing is for sure, his presence at the top will make strike rotation easy and if he stays there till 30 to 35 overs, we will already be looking at more than 300 total.)
3- Babar Azam
4- Haris Sohail (He should be there for ODIs. He is not timing it well in PSL but he is good enough to smack West Indian trundlers. He needs some match time. Basically, he is a must for Champions Trophy.)
5- Sarfraz Ahmed
6- Saad Ali (A very good batsman statistically. Likes to hit the ball hard and can be a finisher we need.)
7- Hussain Talat (Can be a very good batting all rounder. Can bowl 5-6 economical overs in between. Will be handy in England and seaming conditions.)
8- Shadab Khan (A proper bowling all rounder who can actually spin and not a darter.)
9- Amir
10- Hasan
11- Junaid

12- Fakhar
13- Imad
14- Umar Akmal (backup wicket keeper)
15- Sohail Khan
