Your thoughts on Jasprit Bumrah?

I would like to give a very good example on how mediocre bumrah is compared to someone like Shoaib Akhtar

Below clip is from a Test where it was certainly either going towards a draw and in the same series it was going for an England win but Shoaib did it with nothing but his shear pace and aggression.....something a part timer like Bumrah is never going to do....He just likes taking tailender wickets and play on bowler friendly tracks that is it

Indians here can cry all they want and defend him, but reality is reality.

It would be interesting to see his averages vs averages of other bowlers in those series to see if overall bowling averages were low or just Bumrah. For example if Bumrah averaged 18 in a BGT series but Cummins averaged 28 then we can't say bowling pitches were friendly for Bumrah alone.

Maybe @Buffet has done this in the past, i seem to remember seeing something but not 100%

thing about these stats is they never tell you the full picture regardless of how bleak or colorful they may look

Bumrah avg was insane, Bolland had similar but Bolland and Cummins did the clutch for Australia and won that series....Bumrah was just picking up scraps and thats how he is going to be remembered for someone who just had a good outing but didn't produce results and someone who would skip crucial games

Failed vs SA at home even tough statiscally it doesn't look so bad because of one innings in a low scoring.
Completely outbowled by Jansen.
A long time he hasn't delivered.

I've always maintained that Bumrah is the most protected fast bowler there is.

Around 90% of his games are on helpful wickets.

He gets the luxury of being selective and only being played on helpful wickets and that too when he is in peak condition.

If he had to grind away on flat wickets like other bowlers without the luxury of being selective, his record would look a lot worse.

Great post - That’s exactly what I’ve been saying on this thread.

Think you condensed it much better 👍🏽

I think he has a great case to end up in the list of top 10 test fast bowlers by the time he hangs up his boot if he continues to perform the way he is performing now.

He, however, in my opinion should not be compared to bowlers from the past who were overworked, underpaid, & not protected as much. I mean bowlers used to bowl 8-ball overs up until almost 80s & then the only way for them to make a living was playing non-stop county cricket. The previous fast bowlers also had the advantage of multiple bouncers, less protective gear, & tail enders who couldn't bat but era comparison in my opinion is just not useful as there are no objective comparisons possible.

And it’s also working against him, because this selective/short burst use of him (as he’s injury prone ?) will make sure that while he keeps a lower average he’ll never get that 10er that is a sign of a potential ATG bowler (probably the equivalent of a double or triple ton in Test batting terms).

Just noticed two phases of his action. The boy does have hyper extension. However,

First one the arm is bent and then straightens which also includes hyper extension (in the second pic)

The first one is the problematic one. How much straightening is happening. Let’s not libel him, but let’s get him tested

Bumrah is similar to Ambrose. Both were protected from subcontinent tours and both were economical bowlers who did just about enough to ensure their numbers don’t get hurt. Bumrah is probably more versatile, that’s the only plus he has.

Some delusional India posters thought Bumrah became the GOAT after a few good series. :qdkcheeky

A GOAT is someone who performs over a period of decade or more. Not a few series.

Is Bumrah an ATG? Answer is no. He is in the same tier as Southee, Boult, Mark Wood, Jofra Archer etc.

He is not a tier 1 (or even tier 2) ATG like some were suggesting.

I personally think bowlers with hyperexentions shouldn't be allowed to bowl. It gives them an unfair advantage over other bowlers.

Anyway, it is quite possible Bumrah is chucking. We cannot tell until he gets tested.

I think his records should have an asterisk mark until he gets tested. :inti
