Thank you Yuvraj Singh for all the memories.

Hitting six sixes in an over is no joke.

Suffering from cancer and then making a comeback to international cricket is no joke.

Once again thanks for giving us all those cricketing memories!

Yuvraj Singh, the Man of the Tournament during India's historic run to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup title in 2011, has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 37. He also confirmed that he has played his final season at the Indian Premier League.

Yuvraj was a two-time ICC trophy winner, having also lifted, and played a vital role, in 2007, when India lifted the inaugural ICC World Twenty20, in South Africa, to kickstart a brand new era under the leadership of MS Dhoni. A decorated limited-overs player, and one of the world's most destructive batsmen in his prime, Yuvraj ends his career with 304 one-day internationals, in which he made 8701 runs - the seventh highest in India's one-day history, and 1177 runs in 58 Twenty20 internationals. He also enjoyed a brief run in the Test arena, where his 1900 runs came at an average of 33.92 and included a career best of 169, in what was co-incidentally India's last Test against Pakistan.

One of the greatest match-winners of all time, and a bonafide legend of Indian cricket. You could tell he was something special from day one.

A man for the big occasion and who was always perceived as a major threat by the opposition - he had genuine fear factor. Not only was he a tremendously gifted striker, he was incredible in the field and was an underrated bowler. A hugely talented cricketer.

My personal best (worst) memory of him is from the 2006 ODI series in Pakistan. His partnership with a young, long-haired Dhoni was scary.

It is a complete shame that his career was derailed when he was in his peak years. Without the cancer, he could still have been a decisive player.

This Indian team would be unbeatable with a peak Yuvraj in the middle-order instead of Jadhav.

His career was cut short, but he has done more than most players with longer careers.

Thank you all the memories.. Yuvi was the a true match winner. Sachin was replaced by Kohli but Yuvi is still not replaced.

I always believe such high highly important player they were to your team, once for long periods, should always end on a nice note playing a career final series. Yuvraaj deserves by a last final home series to say goodbye. So did Afridi in a T20 series for Pak in Pak with whoever. So I hope Mashrafe gets one final home series after the WC to say goodbye!

An excellent ambassador of the sport as well.

Those who seen 2007 World T20 won’t forget how deadly Yuvraaj was, such sweet timing and big hitting. And that 6 sixes in a over. My best memories of Yuvraaj has to be 2002 Natwest Series final at Lords against England chasing 320 odd, 2007 World T20.

Yuvraj is one of the finest cricketer in the world India has ever produced. A match winner . Unfortunately he lost 4 peak years of his international career . Bye bye Yuvi, thanks for the pleasant memories. Have a good post retirement time . Did he marry?

yes

Why did he retire from the IPL? He is still an Indian legend and can make easy IPL money for the next 3 years

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to my friends from the media, my family, friends and fans from all across the world who are going to be part of, what is a very difficult and at the same time a beautiful moment for me I can’t really put it in words but I will try. After 25 years in and around the 22 yards and almost 17 years of international cricket on and off,I have decided to move on. Thank you for taking the time out to be here and to support me.

Cricket has given me everything I have and is the reason why I stand here today. It was such a love – hate relationship with the sport. In retrospect, I don’t think I hated this game because the love I have for it today which will remain constant until the end of life. I can’t really explain it in words what is that feeling, this game taught me how to fight, how to fall, to dust myself off, to get up again and move forward.

I have failed more times than I have succeeded but I never gave up and will never give up till my last breath, and that’s what cricket taught me. I gave my blood and sweat to the game, once I got into it, especially when it came to representing my country.

Since my childhood, I always tried to fulfil my father’s dream to play for India and win the World Cup, and I can say I was lucky to have achieved it. I am thankful every day to the Almighty, both my Guruji’s Late Sant Baba Ajit SinghJi , Sant Baba Ram Singh Ji , and my Mother and my Father who guided me on the right path through this entire journey. I’m hoping that each one of you who matter in my life are proud of what I have achieved on and off the field.

And To my true fans who have always supported me endlessly, I can’t thank you enough specially when the times were tough.

As I go back in times today, my life has been like a roller coaster ride. Winning the 2011 World Cup, being man of the series, four Man of the Match awards was all like a dream, which was followed by a harsh reality – getting diagnosed of cancer. It was like touching the sky and then falling down at light speed and hitting the ground hard. As All this happened so quickly and that too when I was at the peak of my career.

But in that moment, everyone I knew, to whom I mattered, stood together for me; my fans, my friends and family. I would also like to thank the BCCI and BCCI president at that time Mr N Srinivasan for their support in my treatment. Thank You to both my Doctors – Dr Rohatgi who took me for the treatment to Dr. Lawrence H Einhorn in US who also treated Lance Armstong.

This brings me to my next focus in life, which is to help Cancer patients through my foundation YouWeCan. At YouWeCan we spread awareness about cancer and help the underprivileged by conducting screening camps, funding their treatments and sponsoring education to underprivileged cancer survived kids. We have also started our own merchandising arm YWC for the foundation to help generate funds for the cause. I really want to make a difference to the society by setting example through my inspiring story.

On a lighter note, I would say I am extremely lucky to play 400+ games for India, I for one, would have not imagined doing this when I started my career as a cricketer. Through this journey, some matches that remain in my memory were the 2002 NatWest final, my first test hundred in Lahore in 2004, the 2007 Test series in England, of course the six sixes at the 2007 T20 World Cup and then the most memorable was 2011 World Cup finals.

Probably my worst day in my cricket career was the 2014 T20 World Cup final against Sri Lanka when I scored 11 off 21 balls. It was so shattering that I felt my career was over, and I was written off by everyone to an extent that it made me feel at times that it’s all over.

Then I took a bit of time off and that’s when I realised why I play cricket – its because I love the game. So I went back to basics, and scored heavily in domestic cricket and about a year and a half later I made by comeback in T20 for India again where I hit six and four in the last over against Australia in Sydney and suddenly all the belief came right back.

Though I was still in and out of the team for a while and after scoring almost 700 runs in 5 games in domestic cricket I finally made a comeback in one day cricket after three years in Cuttack, on 18th January against England in 2017 and recorded my highest one-day score of 150 (127). When everybody said it was impossible.

Trust me I never stopped believing in myself, no matter what the world said. Believe in yourself because if you put your heart & soul in to it you can achieve the impossible.

Cricket has given me some great friends and seniors. I started my career under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy and got an opportunity to play with my idol the great Sachin Tendulkar & other legends like Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid & Javagal Srinath, My close friends who I grew up with playing for INDIA who also went on to becoming great match winners for the country such as Zak, Gauti, Veeru, Ashu, & Bhajju. I made some great friends and not such great friends playing for so many years.

This is the same batch that created history and went on to win the World Cup under the great captaincy of MS Dhoni and exceptional coaching of Gary Kirsten, probably the best international coach I played under.

I would like to thank the selectors & Saurav Ganguly who picked me and gave me an opportunity to play for India in 2007. Selectors such as Mr Chandu Borde, TA Sekhar and others. I would also like to thank all my sports staff who made it possible for my body to last this long specially Nitin Patel & Ashish Kaushik. I would also like to thank National team coaches, various IPL team owners and staff, ground staff and anyone and everyone who helped me focus on my cricket by taking care of other things around it.

I played with some great teams like Pakistan winning and losing in 2004, 2006 & 2007 with Australia, losing to them in 2003 WC finals and beating them in 2007 WC t20 semi-finals and again beating them in 20011 quarter finals. These were some epic battles and I’ll always cherish these memories for rest of my life.

The adrenaline rush playing for India, singing the national anthem before each game, touching the Indian flag, stopping every run for the team or scoring every run for the team was a completely different high. To be a part of the history that was made after 28 years, I mean honestly what more could I ask for.

Last and most importantly, I would like to thank my family, my mother who is present here today; my loving mother who has been the pillar of my strength and I feel has given me birth twice, my loving wife hazel who stood by me in my tough times and my close friends who get sick of me but are always there for me, everybody who I love is here today except my dad thank me my friends in media that he is not here today and just his message (lol).

I think it’s a perfect day to move on.

Last but not the least thank you to all my well-wishers in media for capturing this lovely journey !!! And a very special thank you to the entire team of Endemol for putting this film together and the entire team of Wizcraft for putting the on ground event together.

Thank You once again for being with me and I hope you accompany me in my next journey. See you on the other side.

– Yuvraj Singh.

Why did he retire from the IPL? He is still an Indian legend and can make easy IPL money for the next 3 years

He has made money and probably doesn't want to be a non performing player. His last few IPLs have been poor as per his standards. So it's good he retired, IPL franchise are not charitable organizations they won't think twice before dropping Yuvi if he doesn't perform so best to retire with grace

Brilliant ODI player and always seem to save his best for games vs pakistan. Happy retirement.

Thanks for the memories champ, wish you a happy life, most importantly good health post retirement. Such an inspirational figure, an ideal role model for kids.

Great, great player. He was one of my absolute favs back in 2000. He was India's original finisher, has played so many iconic knocks. India still hasn't been able to replace Yuvraj in middle order.

although me being a Pakistani and no matter what the differences between India and Pakistan have been I was and always will be a huge fan of yuvraj Singh this guy was a brilliant player no doubt about that one of the most stylish batsmen u could watch when he was at his best it was joy to watch him go great career best of luck for the future yuvi respect

A champion player and a guy who gave so many great memories!

Whenever we won major tournament Yuvi and Dhoni contributed! Ah sad.

He’s already worth tens of millions of $s and his current IPL contract with Mumbai Indians ‘only’ pays him ~$150k a season as he was bought for base price.

Decent career overall , underachieved in tests. Had the ability to raise game in big match situation. Will always be remembered for his match performance first T20WC and 2011 WC.

Definately an ODI and T-20 legend. Sadly under achieved in test matches though i feel he didn't get consistent chances but there was just so much competition for batting spots in India during his career that sadly he got shafted after a few failures. Had he had a captain, coach, selectors who truly believed in him and went out on a limb for him, he would eventually have repaid that faith

He’s already worth tens of millions of $s and his current IPL contract with Mumbai Indians ‘only’ pays him ~$150k a season as he was bought for base price.

Any chance he could have fetched a higher price in future seasons? Or do he realistically feel he would go unpicked, unsold or fetched at a very cheap price in future seasons?

Maybe IPL isn't exactly stress free fun cricket, he mentioned that he just wanted to play cricket for fun now and perhaps other T-20 leagues like PSL, CPL, BPL, BBL, Natwest T-20 e.t.c. will allow him to do that. He can perhaps end up making $1,000,000 a year from these leagues alone while playing in a stress free environment. Plus he has played his entire life in India and the IPL, surely he wants to experience playing in other countries and environments now.

For me, sadly Yuvraj was never the same player again after Cancer, his reflexes were shot once he came back against the pacers.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has congratulated Yuvraj Singh for an outstanding career which included pivotal roles in India winning the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2011 and at the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup four years earlier.

Yuvraj was named player of the tournament at the 2011 World Cup played in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, when he scored one century and four fifties for an aggregate of 362 runs, while also grabbing 15 wickets. During the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa, he smashed six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad in a crucial league match.

Yuvraj was diagnosed with mediastinal seminoma, a germ-cell tumour located between his two lungs immediately after the 2011 World Cup, but made a return to international cricket and also established a cancer foundation.

ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney: “Yuvraj had an outstanding international career. He was one of those players who could raise his game in crunch situations and excelled at ICC events time after time. He has been an inspiration both on and off the field and given so much joy to millions of fans the world over.

“I have no doubt that Yuvraj is a hero not just in the cricketing world but outside of it too. On behalf of the ICC, I congratulate Yuvraj for his superb career and wish him all the best for the future.”

Yuvraj, 37, first came into the limelight at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in 2000 in Sri Lanka, when he was named Player of the Tournament and made his international debut at the ICC Champions Trophy in the same year.

The left-handed all-rounder last played international cricket in 2017 and has retired with 1,900 runs and nine wickets in 40 Test matches, 8,701 runs and 111 wickets in 304 ODIs, and 1,177 runs and 28 wickets in 58 T20Is.

Yuvraj was named in ICC’s ODI Team of the Year in 2006, 2009 and 2011 while his six sixes in an over won him the ICC T20I Performance of the Year award in 2008.

ICC Release

Great player and handsome to look at. Great service to India

I kind of envy how Indian players are easily able to retire and have a sense of financial comfort knowing their lives going forward are secured. Contrast this to Pakistani players who carry on in their 40's. Unless the PCB figures out how to get big private sector money into Pakistani Cricket, our Cricket will not improve.

he was a good player, but when we talk about Yuvraj, we do remember his 6 6s, but thats about .

For me, he's equivalent of Shoaib Malik, only difference isYuvraj was able to hit.

Legend? surely not

Seldom has player combined finesse and timing with such brute force.

Whilst on the crease, he was always dangerous. Could hit sixes with minimal effort and was a nightmare for the opposition. The 2006 series against Pak and WC07 were pretty scary efforts from the opposition point of view.
Still remember he came into the 2011 WC out of form and touch, yet was able to turn it around like no other after 1 or 2 comparatively scratchy innings by his standards.

His cancer comeback story is no mean feat either. A champion player even with his career getting cut short.

The most appreciated and loved cricketer from India in Pakistan. Thanks for all the memories and wish you all the best for the future endeavours.

His arrival probably brought the golden period of modern Indian cricket, he symbolizes aggression that was always missing in most Indian batsman

Lol, someone is absolutely clueless about one of greatest ever ODI bats.

Equivalent of Shoaib Malik, now I've seen it all!

Is Yuvraj Singh Availble for PSL?

So reports are that he is retired from International cricket and IPL. Surely he is no longer centrally contracted by BCCI. Seriously, can he play PSL or participate in some way? Would be a bigger signing than AB for me, maybe a beautiful gesture for India-Pakistan friendship as well. A very well respected Indian cricketer who is friends with some of our Pakistani legends.

Can it happen?

Don't need an Indian player in the PSL.
We're not THIS desperate. Lol.

Retirement benefits, and any contracts, not to mention the public (read brainwashing media) backlash, he will not be available where Bcci is not interested in and the GoI does not approve.

Acc to reports in last few days in Indian media, he wanted to retire from international cricket only but wanted assurance from BCCI that he will be allowed to play in foreign leagues, BCCI didn't give that assurance and was instead asked to retire from IPL also in order to be eligible to play in foreign leagues as per BCCI rules.

He has reportedly, already signed for Euro Slam and Canada GT20 league.

Encouraging news, this could be a great chance for PSL

My memories of Yuvraj would be the 2000 ICC Knockout and six sixes in an over.

All the best post-retirement.

A clutch performer in the middle order for India. Alongside Raina and Dhoni, formed one of the most reliable middle orders.

They ( politicians) will never let this happen.

He was the one who left a legacy for the aggressive batting culture in india. The likes of kl rahul, rishab pant ,hardik pandya will carry this legacy left forward by yuvrag singh.Yuvi will be remembered as an Pioneer or architect who upgraded the mindset of indian batting.Other than that he was a gun fielder and more than handy left arm spinner who turned the game on his head when ever india needed him.

I can give u atleast 10 points of difference b/w yuvi and malik but this is his retirement news thread so don't want any debates here.
But i can guarantee you that 90% of pakistani posters won't agree with u.

It"ll be good to see him play in psl but our indian twitter deshbhakts wont spare him.

Yuvraj singh surely underachieved, he had ability to become a KP level cricketer but indiscipline was his biggest issue.
He is as talented as anyone i have ever seen, his shots had class mixed with strength which is very rare.

A very good player of shorter formats who will definitely find a place in India's all time ODI and T20 XIs.

His brutal 70(30) against Australia in the inaugural T20 world cup was probably the best inning of his career.

Nah he will get death threats and stuff. No point risking his families life and his own. Unfortunately Indo-pak relations are over and won't change in next 6-7 years atleast.

One of my favourite non-Pakistani cricketers.

Loved the way he batted, such elegance, yet such force and power.

One of the most respected Indian cricketers around the world.

Good guy.

Was never good enough against Pakistan though, so instilled no fear and nobody was too worried about his wicket.

6 sixes were a good sight!

3 test 100s against Pakistan for such a limited test batsman, he scored only 3 100s in 40 tests all of which came against PCT in 7 tests against them.

In ODIs he was quite good against you guys, a matchwinning 50 in Centurion 2003 and that ODI series in Pakistan in 2006, he even shone in multi-nations like Asia Cup. Average 48 at SR 94 against Pak in 2000s is very good I believe.

T20s yeah he failed in the 07 final but won a match in the aane do series (comeback from cancer), hit Ajmal for many 6s I think.

Wasn't aware he has good numbers against us.

Well maybe I'm just forgetting things then - or his impact wasn't as prominent as Sehwag's on us.

Is that the same series where Asif did miracle in last test? if so then buddy sorry bcz todays english ODIs wickets are better than those tests wickets.

His career strike rate is poor. Pandya is a better batsman overall then he was, though big tournament performances were remarkable and are difficult to replicate fo

How many world cups did Shoaib win for Pakistan?

Absolute champion player, he would always be remembered as a deadly match winner, won us a lot of matches with gorgeous strokeplay. That he was the MOS for 2011 world cup, reserved his status as a legend forever.

I remember in 1997 when I joined college, there used to be this friend of mine from Chandigarh who used to play club cricket there. He would tell us stories about practising with this guy Yuvi, who my friend thought was very arrogant but would play for India one day. Just like SRT and Dhoni, Yuvi was famous amongst cricket fans even before he played for India.

Don’t really have a point of view on him
Him and raina were obviously highly thought of
Both Rohit and Rahul seem to be doing just as good

Super stats in World Cups.

A legend who's managed to win India 2 major trophies, a champion of a player. God knows what type of innings he would've played against us in Mohali had Wahab not bowled him out for a golden duck.
