Always a fan of having a leggie in the team. Chahal is someone who has improved series by series and is a genuine wicket taker! In this era of pathetic spin play, he is taking full advantage.

I haven't seen him get the credit he deserves. A key clog of India's LO side.

yeah, more than his cricketing skills i am impressed with his temperament. He plays IPL for RCB whose home ground is Bangalore and has a very small boundaries. he still keeps tossing up balls every over and more often than not comes up on top. He and Yadav are still in their honeymoon period.. lets see whether they can continue their form. He will be a great option for tests if he does.. These guys have forced Ashwin to innovate.. Ashwin is bowling leg spin full time :)

It's astounding why people are not crediting him(& Kuldeep) enough. They have been amazing on both home and foreign pitches as of now. They, between themselves have picked up 21 wickets for 190 odd runs in SA.
Perhaps Kohli has been hogging most of the attention.

Yup, Playing for RCB at Bangalore has made Chahal fearless, it is the most difficult venue in the IPL for a bowler.

I remember when he got a wicket recently off a crap ball and was too embarrassed to celebrate. On the other hand our best ODI bowler does his trademark celebration even for the tailenders and when he scores a 50.

So what that makes Chahal better than Hasan Ali? 😂

So you made a thread about people not giving him enough credit, but couldn't quite get yourself to do it as well. What an irony!

Quick learner ... good variations .. in India on some slow wickets he was bowling over 85-90 kph .. speed range was around 80 kph in SA

and he can bowl flat or quick leg breaks as we have seen in IPL

already in short career Chahal has 5 four wicket hauls

same with Kuldeep ..and economy rates too around 4.5

series in England will be a good test

I feel Kuldeep can be fast tracked in to Test cricket

People now a days say there are no quality batters who play spin, swing or seam well and at the same time loathe batters who do well saying pitches are flat or bowlers are trash!

Pakistan has to take a leaf out of india book and try another speacialst spinner in the eleven in place of darters.

Art of Playing spin has gone down..there is no question about it.

Spinners will know better about current era if they play in IPL (Chahal himself!) That is what made him tougher and that is why he is performing like this now! It is a wrong myth about today's spin play! Batsmen are getting out because they are not playing enough defensive cricket. Once they play defensive cricket, they will learn how to negotiate quality spin... Chanderpaul, Grant Flower, etc, used to do this so well (they were never such deadly players!), while it may look surprising to see somebody like Miller struggling today!

That's what was happening in the past. Players were blocking the spinners for few deliveries then going after only once in the over by picking the right delivery! Even so-called aggressive players of spin like Sidhu, Azhar, Inzamam, Steve Waugh, etc, were doing the same. They were hitting one ball in the over (1st to 6th anyone rightly chosen ball) for six and then they will know that the next ball will be short ball, so they would take a lazy single by jogging. Then it is enough even if there are no runs in the rest of the over! A 7-run over was such a gold those days for the overall runrate, and that was enough to put pressure on the opposition! This kind of cricket is vanished today and people are looking to score of each ball, hence technique/defense become secondary... Most of the pitches are flat, and when the spinners capitalize on occasional pitches or by capitalizing on the weaknesses of batsmen, they should be given credit!

I didn't say it makes him a rubbish bowler . All I said he is taking advantage of it. No need to get so defensive.

I think he will get found out soon. Might be in the WC. Someone can easily hammer him if they get hitting going.

Kuldeep on the other hand is a diamond.

He is the only player to represent India in both chess and cricket. His name is listed in World Chess Federation's official site.

Yuzi is no doubt excellent leggie, however Im more interested in Rahul Chahar. Gonna keep an eye on them in upcoming IPL. Exciting days ahead as an Indian fan. We are producing quality wrist spinners at will after a long drought. Days of using darters as containing role in middle overs are over.

If Chahal gets found out then we also got Chahar in the wing waiting to be unleashed.

Chahal may be a good bowler but spinners shouldn't be bowling no balls. Period.

I don't know what is there to be found out. He is not a mystery bowler. He bowls proper leg spin and this performance not withstanding, he is a quality bowler. People forget that leggies will get smashed sometimes but they also get you the wickets. It is a bit of a no risk, no reward game this.

2 noballs by a spinner is a big no no!

SA played the spinnere extremely well today.

i think all that practice against wrist spin paid off for saf. How did they improve so quickly? whos their batting coach?

They didnt improve. It was a do or die situation. Were it 50 overs, they would have choked again.

Shadab is still better than both kuldeep and chahal. Imo chahal is poor mans Rashid. Indians should hype kuldeep more as he has a lot more potential than no ball addict chahal.

Shadab has been hammered also. But he is overal a good package.

One bad day, nothing to look much. It happens with leg spinners, ball is wet too.

The two leggies are the future, today's thrashing notwithstanding. Much much better than Ashwin and Jadeja in ODIs.

Let us see how they handle Chahal in the next two matches with a dry ball and then we can say whether they tamed him or not.

How? Chahal has both better average and economy rate than Shadab and is one of the main reasons we won series against Aussies and now 3 odi wins on the trot against Saffers at their own den.Shadab is a better fielder and batsman though.

Nah, kuldeep is the best out of the 3.

Kuldeep
Shadab
Chahal

I'm pakistani but I think kuldeep is the best out of the 3. No shame admitting they better than us

Yes, if you dont know your cricket and are biased.

To be honest its a tough competition among Yadav and Shadab, we will come to know in few years time who is better as a bowler. Chahal is good but Shadab and Yadav are atleast 10 years younger so I rate them higher considering their potential of what they can become.

But, when it comes to comparing as a cricketer Shadab is already miles ahead. Gun fielder and a very compact batsman who can also gut some big and unorthodox shots (already has got two 50s in ODIs).

No he is just average batsmen made him look good.On the other hand kuldeep is much better than this overhyped yuzvendra.

You have to look at them as a team. Not single. They both complement each otherr. When one doesn't click other one clicks and eventually both click. Finger spinners have been less effective oflate. As a pair they are doubly threatening. Neither of them are going to make way any other bowler until one of them sucks really bad.

Last 2 years

Kuldeep 18 matches 34 wickets 19.79 average 4.71 ER 25.1 SR

Chahal 18 matches 33 wickets 23.66 avearage 5.07 ER 27.0 SR

Kuldeep is marginally better. But you have to check the total number of wickets 67 .

Chahal is easy to pick compared to Kuli but he has better control. Rainy night, 50 over converted to T20 match doesn't make him bad, dropped catches & no-balls were a sucker punch.

A spinner should not be bowling no balls. I wonder if he learns from this.

Dont think Bumrah has learnt after his CT final no ball.

a reason i and perhaps others dont know about him much is because he has primarily done well I presume in JAMODIs.

If he does well in an ICC tourny he will get the hype like it happened with Hasan Ali. He had been impressive for a good 7-8 months but his CT performances made him well known

Not a great day for Chahal. 4-0-64-0 and a dropped catch :yk3

Poor day for Chahal today hopefully he bounces back strongly.. Rain didn’t help his cause

64 runs in 4 overs, wow! I still remember Umar Gul giving away some 58 runs in a match (domestic maybe?) and I thougt that was really really bad, but Chahal has taken it to a new level.

What a cruel jinx thread this turned out to be. Poor Chahal. Hope his confidence isn’t dented.
Glad that Kuldeep Yadav has been kept out of this slog fest that is T20.

The wet conditions made it hard for him.

Today Klassen ate Chahal like a Bread Pakora.

Worst bowler when it rains. His bowling loses fizz moment you give him a wet ball. Even Behardien who i rate as a poor batsman was able to smack him for six

SA cannot play Chahal with a dry ball. They proved it several times.

Now Chahal got destroyed by SA once in the 3rd ODI and then today. Both times it rained and the ball was wet.

Chahal should learn to dart in these kinds of conditions like Jaddu. Tossing up when there is no spin means asking for trouble.

Especially seeing that the next WC is in England so expect frequent rain there. Otherwise he is an incredible bowler along with Kuldeep.

We cannot control weather.

Chahal and Kuldeep should be the first choice spinners. Chahal has to learn to bowl with the wet ball. Most day-night matches in subcontinent has some dew in the grass and the ball will be wet. So wet ball cannot be used as an excuse.

Agreed that Chahal is a very good bowler when there is no rain in the horizon. He should always start long with Kuldeep unless he is injured.

One match does not change the torture he has given to SA batsmen who were clueless against his wrist spin for the majority part of this tour.

They're miles better than Ashwin and Jadeja in ODI anyway wet ball or not so their WC spot should be certain by now. Both have a few chinks in their armor but otherwise they are both probably India's two best spin bowlers.

Chahal is weak link in our attack. He is basically a t20 bowler who once is in pressure either bowls too wide or two short or bowls too much up. If you try to defend him then he can get on top of you but once you start to attack him he looks clueless. I have seen this even in IPL.

Was there ever a wristspinner who bowled well with a wet ball? Remember how the then-Red-hot Malinga struggled to nail his Yorkers against India in the 2011 WC final as the ball was wet due to the dew.Chahal has proved that he can come back strongly after the mauling in the 4th ODI and I will keep him in the team.

He's a match winner. Shows great guts in tossing the ball. Sometimes he gets smashed for that but 8/10 times he does it for India which is why he should represent India in the 2019 world cup.

What a fantastic chap!

An absolute must in the LOI set up and i am surprised why he hasn't been tried in tests yet?

This guy has match winner written all over him!

Yes he is. Look at how he deceives batsmen in the air and the amount of drift he gets. Shadab is good as well but you have to not know much about your cricket to think Shadab is better.

lol kuldeep/chahal have already won more games than shadab

Hasan Ali and Shaheen are way better than this guy.

Hasan Ali is definitely a gem of a bowler and is at par or even better being a quickie.

But young Shaheen needs some time to develop into a match winner of their level.
