What's new

Zimbabwe [281 & 181] beat Bangladesh [143 & 169] by 151 runs in the 1st Test to take 1-0 series lead

Is there anyone out there who is still hoping for a BD win?

No I have never hoped bcoz unlike others I know the worth of the team. Ofcourse Zimb is a minnow...so they might fluke a victory here but against any other team, BD wont last 4 days in test cricket.

Taijul Islam, the willy left arm orthodox now has the 3rd best bowling figures for Bangladesh in tests . His 5 for 62 in second innings has enabled Bangladesh to restrict Zimbabwe for 181 all out with over all lead of 321 Runs. Islam, took 6 for 108 in the first innings as well. His 11/170 is the third best bowling performance by a Bangladeshi bowler in Test.

Brainless batting display for Zimbabwe. Considering how poor Zimbabwe's bowling Bangladesh will win it without much trouble unless they throw away their wickets.

BD beat Australia,England,Srilanka recently-just to remind you

Light isn't that bad here in Sylhet. Strange decision. At least could play with lights on

Still it's Zimb's match to loose though.BD needs to show character of steel to win here

Decent fight back, but still long way to go. I think, we need to reach 200-3 sort of total for any chance here, Wicket is going to break after lunch tmro.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam returned figures of 5/62 wickets on Day 3 of the first Test to bring Bangladesh back into the game against Zimbabwe.

Taijul, who claimed 11 scalps through the game, was the vital cog in the home side's bowling wheel. Zimbabwe, who started the day at 1/0 with a lead of 140, saw their middle order blown away by his terrific spell.

The left-arm bowler dismissed Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Peter Moor and Tendai Chatara in the second innings, and thus played an integral role in the visitors bundling out for 181.

Bangladesh openers Liton Das and Imrul Kayes held strong for the rest of the day before the umpires decided to call off play due to insufficient light. Chasing 321 runs in the fourth innings, the duo added 26 runs in 10.1 overs, ensuring the hosts suffered no hiccups in the final session.

Earlier in the day, many Zimbabwean batsmen got starts with the bat but were unable to convert them into substantial totals. Hamilton Masakadza, the Zimbabwe captain and skipper, was their highest scorer in the innings with a 104-ball 48. Taylor, Williams and Raza all got into the 20s, but could not capitalize after settling in.

Mehidy Hasan and Nazmul Islam played perfect ancillary roles to Taijul, claiming three and two wickets respectively. The former drew the first blood in the morning session, uprooting Brian Chari's off-stump with after the right-hander had played out 33 deliveries for his four runs.

Taylor, who came in as Chari's replacement, smashed four boundaries to give impetus to the innings after the early wicket. However, he had to walk back to the pavilion after falling to a stunning catch from Kayes off Taijul in the 19th over.

Mehidy's second scalp was the Zimbabwean captain, who tried to play the reverse sweep against the off-spinner, only to get trapped LBW in the 37th over. Taijul then removed Williams, Moor, and Raza in a span of 1.4 overs, cramping the visitors at 130/6 after 43.3 overs.

Wicket-keeper batsman Regis Chakabva and Wellington Masakadza tried to steady the ship with a 35-run stand for the seventh wicket. The resistance was broken by Nazmul in the 65th over, when he dismissed Chakabva for a 5-ball 20.

The rest of Zimbabwe's innings fell apart quickly thereafter, folding for 181 allout within 66 overs. Mahmudullah and his men looked down and out on the second day, but have now gotten themselves with a serious chance to come out on top of this encounter, though they will need to bat extremely well to do so.

Favourites to chase down highest total in this match? 300+ is always a tough chase.

It's extremely tough, ball has begun to spin sharp. It is not impossible. Good teams should do it. BD has to prove that they are good enough to do it.

Haven't been able to watch the test

I've watched patches the odd ball turns. If we play 3 sessions we win

So typical Bangladesh.

Ireland and Afghanistan will leave them in the dust in a quarter of the time that Bangladesh have taken to reach this level.

Its upto Musfiq now if he can counter attack and let others to defend their wickets.

Bangladesh will get whitewashed by Ireland in 3 years. They are not cut out for tests. Bangladesh should relinquish their test status to prevent humiliation. They have neither skill nor interest in the format.

They won tests against Eng,Aus & SL

Lower ranked teams will always be there in any sport
every team can't be competitive

ICC is introducing World Test Championship

If BD continues to be horrible then they would be playing only the lower ranked sides

What's the excuse this time - DRS went against them or umpires cheated? The joke called Bdesh Cricket team.

And u came to that conclusion based on what exactly? Oh yes, I get it, it must be ur wild imagination. Keep living in ur Lala land :))

Why should anyone even bother to give excuse HERE. Zimbabwe is playing against Bangladesh B side where most of their main players aren't playing either due to injury or fir personal reason.

This is international cricket in case u didn't know it already. Any team can have a bad match. Most importantly the bouncy nature of the pitch helped the bowling of Zimbabwe and lucky for them, they even won the all important toss.

Man even you cant save BD here. There is no excuse loosing to Zim whether its B team or not. In fact, they aren't even loosing, they are getting destroyed at their home venue. Absolutely embarrassing stuff.

One of the Zimbabwean fielders just imitated the Nagin dance haha, on Naimul Islam's dismissal.

Why did the Masakadza parents name their kids Hamilton and Wellington?

India should avoid Test cricket with Bangladesh, otherwise we will degrade our own brand.

Bangla fans are masters at giving excuses for their failures. "Asian power house" being felled by Zimbabwe, that too at home.

BD seriously need to revamp their Test cricket. Useless players like Mominul pominiul needs to get the hell out of BD team.

CT semi-finalists, Asia Cup finalists and then losing to Zimbabwe team who god knows when won their last match is absolutely pathetic.

It was only one person who creates those threads. Where do you get Bangladeshi fans?

Yeah but I hv not seen any BD fans objected to that thread. Few hv just said, you should hv added 'Potentially' as a prefix and that thread would hv made sense. :))

Let me tell you, potentially also they are no where close to powerhouse and wont be for next 2 decades atleast.

Bangladesh should be stripped of test status after this shambles at home.

What a win for Zimbabwe. Congratulations to them. Lalchand Rajput will be a very satisfied man. First with Afghanistan and now doing magic with Zim.

Funny to read about this being Bangladeah B team!! I thought the BD U-19 was so full of talent they could fiekd three teams and all three could be world beaters. Thats the impression you get reading the powerhouse thread!

Bangladesh is a freeloader, earning the privilege of being a test team without justifying it.

Zimbabwe stun Bangladesh to go 1-0 up

The Zimbabwe bowlers secured a thrilling 151-run victory in the first Test against Bangladesh in Sylhet on Tuesday, 6 November to take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.

Brandon Mavuta and Sikandar Raza shared seven wickets between them to roll Bangladesh over for 169 on a sporting day four pitch.

Imrul Kayes was Bangladesh's top-scorer with 43 – adding 31 to his overnight score – while debutant Ariful Haque played some entertaining shots in the end to score 38. That, however, couldn't prevent the visitors, who last won a Test in September 2013, from securing a fine 151-run victory. It was Zimbabwe's third away win in Test history.

Liton Das and Imrul Kayes had done well to take Bangladesh to stumps at 26/0. But Zimbabwe started making quick inroads on the fourth morning.

Das was the first to fall for 23 – an addition of just nine to his overnight score, struck in front when he failed to get bat on an attempted pull shot off a half-tracker by Sikandar Raza. Zimbabwe used the review to good effect, and a crucial blow was struck.

Pacer Kyle Jarvis got the ball to nip off the surface and intermittently also got some movement off the air, making him tricky to face. Mominul Haque tried to hit out and ended up chopping on to fall for nine.

Raza then worsened Bangladesh's woes, accounting for Imrul Kayes and skipper Mahudullah in quick succession. Kayes, who had been batting well, was bowled round his legs when he tried to play a cheeky paddle, falling for 43.

Imrul Kayes was dismissed for 43 – the top-score for Bangladesh in their second innings Imrul Kayes was dismissed for 43 – the top-score for Bangladesh in their second innings
Mahmudullah looked uncertain throughout his knock of 16 and his indecisiveness cost him his wicket. He was caught in two minds about whether play an aggressive shot or to defend, ending up gloving a catch to short leg.

The soup thickened for Bangladesh when Nazmul Shanto played a rash shot off a half-tracker by leg-spinner Brandan Mavuta to fall for 13 at the stroke of lunch. He tried to check a square cut at the last moment, and found himself spooning an easy catch to backward point.

Mushfiqur Rahim looked quite comfortable during his stay at the crease, and was even dismissed playing a confident sweep shot off Mavuta. His mistake was that he tried to go the aerial route, offering a catch to deep square leg.

Once Rahim fell, it was a procession of wickets, although debutant Ariful Haque played an entertaining hand at one end.

Mavuta accounted for Mehidy Hasan and Nazmul Islam in quick succession, while Wellington Masakadza joined the party with the wicket of Taijul Islam as Bangladesh slipped from 150/6 to 155/9.

Once all hope was gone, Haque went for some big hits. His 37-ball stay was laced with four fours and two sixes, before he was dismissed by Wellington Masakadza when he miscued another attempted big shot. That wicket sealed the deal for Zimbabwe.

This victory will be memorable because it is Zimbabwe's first overseas win since 2001. Bangladesh will look to make things even in the second Test at Dhaka, starting 11 November.

Good to see some Bangladesh cricket followers posting in this thread. If we dont do such threads, we are accused of bias so would appreciate if you and others keep updating thread.

They only show up when they do well and are the biggest babies out there. Other fans at least support their teams through the highs and lows.

Congratz to Zimbabwe nice win for them :) as for Bangladesh so happy when they lose they really shouldn't be playing test cricket

An away WIN after 17 years amazing. The last win all those years ago was also against Bangladesh however at that time Zimbabwe started the test as favorites.

Wow! I always thought calling powerhouse, 2nd best Asian team and many such titles were too much exaggeration without much facts to back these up.

However, I never thought they will loose to Zim at home, I dont remember last time Zim won an overseas test let alone by 151 runs. It seems like the powerhouse exploded as power was too much to handle.

Bangladesh is in real trouble in both Test and T20 cricket.

Yes losing to Zim in a test and 3-0 to Afghanistan in T20s cant be justified by any excuse.

If Ireland invites them for a test series with the conditions they have at home and experience their players have on such tracks I think Bangladesh will struggle big time there as well.

Congratulations to zimbabwe.

As much as I want to praise Zimbabwe who played OK cricket, i felt our batsmen handed the match to Zimbabwe. Playing far too many loose shots, getting out to bad balls.

I knew, we were behind in day 1.

Congrats to ZIM, throughly deserving winners here. They won a crucial toss, but lowest two scores here were BD innings. Rajput definitely knows how to play on spin friendly condition & Williams played a master innings on day 1. Then & then I knew he had given ZIM a head start.

We’ll make a strong comeback in 2nd Test, but this loss should hurt for long time. Two Test series are unfair for the 1st Test losers, should always play 3 Test series.

Get Lalchand Rajput in place of Shastri now.

Baby steps first. Revamp BD test cricket because its at a pathetic state right now. Step 2, lets try to score 200 first before we attempt to make a strong comeback.

If only they had replaced xxx , aaa, bbb with yyy, ccc, ddd Bangladesh would have won this test by an innings. :)
