Bangladesh announce schedule for Test series against Zimbabwe

The two nations will square off in a two-Test series in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed the schedule for Zimbabwe’s upcoming Test tour of Bangladesh.

The series will commence with the first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on 20 April, followed by the second Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from 28 April.

Zimbabwe and Bangladesh last took on each other in the longest format of the game back in July 2021, where Bangladesh came out on top by 220 runs in Harare.

Breaking barriers, building experiences | A special feature on Women's Day

Zimbabwe last featured in a Test match in Bangladesh in February 2020, where the hosts secured a commanding victory by an innings and 106 runs.

The squads for the series is yet to be announced.

Schedule:

1st Test - 20 – 24 April, SICS, Sylhet

2nd Test - 28 April – 02 May, ZACS, Chattogram

Its more fun to watch any cricket match between opponents that are of equal stature compared to teams that has a day and night difference.

BD should try to win it 2-0. No excuse since it is a home series.

I know it is just Zimbabwe but every Test win helps to improve confidence, form, and Test record. :inti

Zimbabwe name squad for Bangladesh Test series

Zimbabwe Cricket has announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in Bangladesh, with veteran all-rounder Sean Williams making his return after missing the national side’s last red-ball fixture due to a back injury.

Captain Craig Ervine is also back to lead the team after being forced to withdraw just hours before the start of Zimbabwe’s previous Test – against Ireland in February – due to a personal emergency.

Zimbabwe will take on Bangladesh in the first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet from 20 to 24 April, with the second match scheduled for 28 April to 2 May at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

This marks Zimbabwe’s first Test in Bangladesh since February 2020, when the hosts secured victory in a one-off match in Dhaka by an innings and 106 runs.

The selectors have made three changes to the squad that was initially picked for the Test against Ireland earlier this year.

Wicketkeeper-batter Joylord Gumbie makes way for Tafadzwa Tsiga, who returns to the national fold two years after making his Test debut against the West Indies.

Also returning is left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza, whose third and most recent Test appearance came during that same series against the Caribbean side in 2023.

He replaces young pace bowler Newman Nyamhuri.

Top-order batter Takudzwanashe Kaitano misses out on selection, with Wessly Madhevere retaining his place in the squad.

Madhevere had been a last-minute call-up to replace Ervine in the Test against Ireland.

Johnathan Campbell, who captained Zimbabwe in that match, keeps his place, as does Nicholas Welch, who made a memorable debut with a knock of 90 against the Irish.

Fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani, who made history in February by becoming the first Zimbabwean pacer to claim seven wickets in a Test innings, will spearhead the bowling attack alongside Richard Ngarava.

The only uncapped player in the squad is leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa.

Zimbabwe Head Coach Justin Sammons expressed confidence and optimism ahead of the tour.

“We are very excited to be heading into a period where Test cricket will be our sole focus,” he said.

“I am certain this group of players will continue to grow as individuals and as a team as they face new challenges in different conditions.

“The squad has been set up to give us the best balance to deal with whatever may be thrown our way.

“I know everyone in the squad is very determined to give their all for Zimbabwe.”

ZIMBABWE TEST SQUAD FOR BANGLADESH TOUR:

Craig Ervine (Captain), Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Ben Curran, Trevor Gwandu, Wessly Madhevere, Wellington Masakadza, Vincent Masekesa, Nyasha Mayavo, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Victor Nyauchi, Tafadzwa Tsiga, Nicholas Welch, Sean Williams

Bangladesh veteran back in squad for first Zimbabwe Test

Having missed out on Bangladesh’s previous Test assignment against the West Indies, Mushfiqur Rahim is among the notable inclusions in the red-ball setup against Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh have unveiled a 15-player squad for the first of the two Tests against Zimbabwe at home.

Full-time skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had missed out the ICC World Test Championship series against the West Indies, is back to leading the team.

Also making a return is seasoned wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim, who was also among the absentees from Bangladesh’s previous Test assignment.

With 94 Tests under his belt, Mushfiqur has 6007 runs at an average of 37.8 that includes 11 centuries and 27 half-centuries.

Pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib has earned a maiden call-up in the Test side. The 22-year-old, who has featured in 10 ODIs and 22 T20Is for Bangladesh, has 37 scalps to his name in international cricket so far.

Among the absentees is fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, who misses out owing to a ‘left Achilles tendon issue’, confirmed Bangladesh Cricket Board in a release.

Big names return as Zimbabwe name squad for Bangladesh Tests

Bangladesh squad: Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan Ankon, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib

Taskin is out of this series. Typical Bangladeshi player. Weak both physically and mentally

Bangladesh cricket board has been doing a decent job. Good to see all these tours being planned. Should keep playi

Just 3 days to go.

Hopefully it will be a good series. Great to see some international cricket after a break.

Test starting from tomorrow - Sylhet , will it be a turner from day 1 & what is the weather forecast ?
Any BD fans here ...

Sylhet pitch doesn't assist spinners as much as Mirpur does. It generally offers balance between bat and ball.

Forecast is very bad. It is showing rain for all 5 days. We may see a drawn Test.

May Zimbabwe humiliate Bangladesh and win/draw this series.

In case Zimbabwe lose, it'll be because they are not taking this series seriously or they are clearly looking for BPL contracts.

BCB knew that this Test will be impacted by rain , should have either kept 6 to 8 mm of live grass or made a rank turner so that a result could be possible in say 300 overs ... who wants to see a draw !!!

Since sweepy won't post...

Toyger BD have lost 3 more wickets, including that of their captain, ex captain and that of the midget...

Currently 137/5....

Lol Just checked the scoreboard and Nagin Dance team is already lost the six wickets against mighty Zimbabwe.

136/6 🤣🤣🤣🤣

:kp

Won the toss and still are 7 down for 157. Ugly, talentless team.

Thank God these losers' home series are not shown in India anymore.

The famed toyger phaast demons failed to take a single wicket on Day1... This after their batters were poached for a sub 200 score..

Umpires had to intervene to spare East Pakistan from any further blushes by calling it light....

A truly toyger performance on D1... :cobra

toygor nagin team had a bad first innings. But remember this is a team full of toygors who are trained in the ancient art of batting. These well built powerful athletes represents the best the world has to offer in all facets of the game. Today Zimbabwe was saved by rain. Toygors will come back tomorrow morning and destroy them. After that they will do the traditional midget nagin dance which has cultural significance like haka dance from NZ. it’s going to be massacre tomorrow.

They are a football powerhouse now. Cricket is for lesser nations :inti

They will be flooding football with their well built athletic men who will bulldoze every opposition. Every football league in the world would be begging these talent blessed by god to grace their football fields and make them great again. Other football giants like Brazil, Argentina are already shivering and have resigned to the fact that their days as champions are over

While the talentful players take over the worldwide audience for football their shrewd businessmen will be buying out all great leagues. Every one of those clubs will be moved to Bangladesh so that the players can finally understand how it feels to play in front of very knowledgeable audience who may actually have thousands of players who are actually better than these professionals but couldn’t make it into the BD team due to ICC=BCCI problem.

Well played, Zimbabwe.

They are a likeable team and their fans are very classy (unlike fans from a particular team). :inti

I wish Zimbabwe cricket all the very best.

Their only footballer who is worth anything is Hamza Choudhary who is half black Caribbean.

Bangladesh should allow mass imigration of West African men and sponsor marriages with BD women to improve at all sports. Else it will be humiliation after humiliation :inti

BD seemed rusty. They haven't played international cricket in a while.

Need to come back strong tomorrow if possible.

:inti:inti:inti

Tawanda Muyeye would be a good replacement batter for Sean Williams and Craig Ervine but unfortunately his family had to flee the country for political reasons.

He's having a good season in the County Championship.

That has been the issue for Zimbabwe for the past 22 years. Players leave Zimbabwe for political reasons, better lives etc.

They were a very exciting team in the 90's and also in early-2000's.

The thing I like most about BD cricket is that they completely take the home/away factor out of the equation. They’re equally awful everywhere, regardless of the venue, pitch, or weather. No place is safe from their incompetence.

They are just like that. They can excel like today on any pitch against any opposition. Unreal talent

Simmons just 2 days before game said we want to play on true pitches & win to get in top 3 in Test cricket ... & then Bang boys do this !!! 67/0 - do Zim get 300 here ?

Top 3 is probably not gonna happen in our lifetime. Top 5 is possible although unlikely.
perhaps .... though rampant corruption has to be rooted out . Shaqib is widely known as the go-to-fix man .
BPL - everyone has seen what is happening , leagues are scripted but BPL is next level .

Brian Bennett looks the most talented batsman from either side. Muzarabani the most gifted fast bowler

Sylhet is good venue to simulate foreign conditions. They are practicing with lower rated teams here now. Bd also lost against Zim in Sylhet 5 years ago.

little bit I could watch today on a very bad pvt link - pitch does have bounce for pacers ...
lunch 133/4

Nahid Rana has the pace to bully minnows. All his match winning spells have come against weak batting lineups - PAK , WI and now potentially Zimbabwe

Yeah too bad he doesn't get to play with Harry Brook, Joe Root, Travis Head, Virat Kohli caliber of batsmen. Got to try his best with whatever totals Shanto, Shadman and whatnot puts out.

You can play him with anyone. Beyond high pace , he has nothing in his armoury.

trail by just 32 runs - how crucial would be a 60-70 run lead here ?
Simmons also was hopeful of 2-0 btw be4 the game ...

Zimbabwe is Bangladesh's closest rival in Test cricket .

8 wins and 7 losses against them so far.

Bangladesh cricket is enough to make fun of BD fans. If people had sense they wouldn't be talking of other issues on a cricket forum.

Lol indeed football has always been favorite sport in BD. As BD economy gets larger, I expect football to make massive comeback and be dominant sport in BD over Cricket.

Correct.

Young Bangladeshis are more into football than cricket. I myself also enjoy football more than cricket. :inti

Cricket has been ruined thanks to BCCICC. :inti

Great to see BD pulling things back a bit. If they can keep that lead under 100, they can come back probably.

BD - 191-all out.
ZIM - 193/6.

Zimbabwe are leading by 2 runs.
