I am curious to see if Hafeez is giving more 'chances'...

Who will open with Fakhar? Will they go for Imam or Hafeez?

They could also play it safe and open with Babar/Fakhar just like in the T20's.

The key now for Pakistan is to adapt to the longer format. It's excellent that we're hitting boundaries in T20s with regularity but in ODIs, more emphasis is needed on pushing the 1s, 2s and 3s in addition to hitting the ball out of the park. Strike rotation was poor in the NZ series with way too many dots consumed.

We've been on the winning and losing end of a 5-0 whitewash since the Champions Trophy. I expect us to beat Zimbabwe 5-0.

However I hope their best players are back in Taylor, Raza, Ervine, Cremer and Jarvis to make it a contest.

Last prepartion of our odi squad before the all important asia cup .i hope we get the combination right minus hafeez

Fakhar
Haris
Babar
Sarfraz
Malik
Asif
Shadab
Fahim
Amir
Shinwari
Junaid

Can't believe Shaheen isnt in the ODI squad, was the perfect time to draft him in

Fakhar Zaman
Haris Sohail
Babar Azam
Sarfraz Ahmed+*
Shoaib Malik
Asif Ali
Shadab Khan
Faheem Ashraf
Hasan Ali
Mohmmad Amir
Usman Shinwari

Swap Amir out for Junaid Khan in the 2nd and 3rd ODI, and Hasan out for Amir in the 4th ODI.

I really wish Talat and Shaheen were in the squad, big miss by the selectors.

Please mickey ask for shaheen inculsion in odis.he merit odi place due to t20 performances

Don't tell me we have tests on this tour as well??

still don't understand why Yasir is in this squad...

would've been great if they had Shaheen and Farhan in this series

Fakhar
Babar
Haris
Hafeez
Sarfraz
Malik
Faheem
Nawaz
Yasir
Junaid
Usman

Should be resting our main players who don't get rest like Amir, Hasan and Shadab. Fakhar will open and it should be either Bobby or Harry doesn't matter which one but the other should be at 3. Hope it's an easy match.

I want Fakhar and Babar to open, Asif Ali to come in at 6 and Hasan to play for a confidence booster.

Rotate the bowlers.

Need to give Asif more overs to bat. Also maybe promote shadab , he can be played as batting allrounder

I hate playing Zimbabwe. It's so pointless. ICC should relegate them to a minnow nation and instead invest in Afghanistan and Ireland.

It will be a foolish decision if Pak take these ODI series seriously and miss iut the chance to give opportunities to new players. Amir should be rested the entire series please.

Fakhar Zaman
Imam ul haq
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail / Shoaib Malik
Shoaib Malik / Sarfraz Ahmed
Sarfraz Ahmed / Asif Ali
Fahim Ashraf
Shadab Khan
Hasan Ali

Three useless selections.

I would take a punt and open with Fakhar and Sarfaraz. It would give us enough cushion to accommodate both Harris Sohail and Asif Ali in the middle order. It would also provide Fahim Ashraf enough freedom to express himself more as an all-rounder.

Fakhar
Babar
Haris
Sarfraz + *
Malik
Asif
Shadab
Faheem
Usman
Junaid
Shaheen

No point playing Hafeez and also overloading Amir and Hassan.

I would rest Amir and Hasan after the first couple of ODI's and replace them with Junaid and the second spinner,Yasir Shah.

Also would have liked to rest Sarfaraz but unfortunately there is no backup wicketkeeper.

Hafeez is an anomaly in the team. If he does play, the only place he should play is lower middle order.

Not sure why Haris Sohail is a first choice in the eleven for most of the posters. All the guy has ever one is score cute 30s and given away.

amir faheem shadab need some rest .. sarfraz too but no back up option

Fakhar
Haris
Babar
Sarfraz
Asif Ali
Malik
Shadab
Faheem
Hasan Ali
Usman
Junaid. ( Should have picked Shaheen.)

Don't see the point of having Yasir Shah in the ODI squad.

He has been a proven failure in white ball cricket, maybe allowing him to warm up for the upcoming test series?! Should have included Zafar Gohar.

He should be asked to stay and allow AMIR to go to the UK as he wanted rest.

All this talk about rest. Pakistan has a two month break after this series.

ITS TIME to give Asif, Faheem, and shadab 5 solid chances to score a century! Thats what everyone wants, can't deny it!

Haris
Imam
Asif
Faheem
Shadab
Fakhar
Babar

Yes think that's why - has he even bowled since the PSL in a competitive game ?

May as well shake off the rustiness before a big Test winter for us against Australia, NZ and SAF.

1. Fakhar
2. Babar
3. Haris
4. Sarfraz
5. Asif Ali
6. Faheem
7. Malik
8. Shadab
9. Hasan
10. Amir
11. Shinwari

Squad's missing an extra batsman to slot in at 7 instead of Faheem. If Faheem's playing play him up the order and give him a chance to perform. He might not get another chance, and it is Zimbabwe he might score. And Malik doesn't need the extra practice against Zimbabwe we all know what he can do against these teams, it's the stronger teams concerned about.

Hopefully they'll give Malik, Fakhar, Haris a bit more of a bowl (and potentially Babar, heard he can bowl too). Need to see where we stand on part time bowling.

This should be our team:

1) Fakhar Zaman
2) Mohammad Hafeez - as we have no other openers and the fact that he can bowl gives him the edge over Imam.
3) Babar Azam
4) Haris Sohail - was not good in T20I's but in ODI's he is okay I think and he can bowl
5) Sarfaraz Ahmed (C) (WK)
6) Shoaib Malik
7) Asif Ali - was good in T20I's
8) Faheem Ashraf
9) Shadab Khan
10) Hasan Ali
11) Mohammad Amir

Just here to register that this is a completely useless series that will further cement the careers of malik and hafeez

Pakistan’s travel plans to Bulawayo delayed due to cash crunch

HARARE: The Pakistan team touring Zimbabwe had to delay plans to travel from Harare to Bulawayo after it emerged that they wouldn’t have a hotel to stay in. The team is in Harare at the moment, having triumphed in a T20I tri-series in which they beat the hosts and Australia to the title. They are scheduled to play a five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, starting on Friday. After winning the final on Sunday, Pakistan were originally scheduled to fly out on Monday evening but had to reschedule because the hotel they were due to stay in demanded payment upfront for the booking and Zimbabwe Cricket was initially unable to provide it, which resulted in the cancellation of the booking.

ZC has been in a financial crisis for some time now, having had to postpone domestic tournaments and struggled to pay players and employees. They have at least the promise of some help from the ICC now. The situation with Pakistan’s hotel bookings has since been rectified and the tourists will now fly to Bulawayo – a journey of under an hour by air – on Thursday morning, when their rooms become available. They will train on Thursday afternoon, ahead of the first ODI. The Zimbabwe squad arrived in Bulawayo on Monday night and trained on Tuesday morning. The teams will play all five ODIs at Queens Sports Club from July 13 to 22.

A few things I hope happen:

- Shadab gets a break in the last three games so that Yasir can see how his injury recovery holds up.
- Hasan Ali only plays the first few games so he gets his mojo back. Same with Amir.
- Haris Sohail & Asif Ali play all 5 ODIS, with Malik & Hafeez rested. (Haris can also bowl and should be groomed to be used to stem runs)

I would play this team:

1) Fakhar Zaman
2) Imam Ul Haq
3) Babar Azam
4) Haris Sohail
5) Sarfraz Ahmed
6) Asif Ali
7) Faheem Ashraf
8) Shadab/ Yasir
9) Hasan Ali / Mo. Amir
10) Junaid Khan
11) Usman Khan Shinwari

This is a dream come true, and I know it won't happen since Hafeez and Malik are both valuable to Micky Arthur. But I could care less about winning this series, and more about getting the right players and combinations for WC2019.

Insha-Allah it happens.

This will be one sided series. Zimbabwe are missing a few key players and even with them, their chances are slim. So a 5-0 result coming up.

Fakhar
Haris
Babar
Sarfraz
Malik
Asif
Shadab
Fahim
Amir
Shinwari
Junaid

Can't believe Shaheen isnt in the ODI squad, was the perfect time to draft him in

S Afridi is a major miss, we need him for WC, its important to have 12-15 ODI under his belt before that. He provides different variety :acp:

Other than that opening slot is a major issue. Both Harris/Immad are not ideal for limited overs cricket.

The fact the Professor will probably crawl to a slow century makes me dread this series

Given the opponents, the squad by at large is uninspiring

Haris has like 5 50’s in his last 5 ODI innings
Not a T20 player, but is fine in ODIs

Well if you are thinking about the combination for the WC it's a poor selection. It would have been better if the selectors had selected the fringe players like Agha Salman, Saud Shakeel and Shaheen Afridi etc. It was a great chance to have played them and seen their worth

Zimbabwe have named their squad and its awful - missing seven frontline players. Not sure if it even qualifies as being their B team.

Imam Ul Haq and Hafeez aren't the most exciting openers . Could have bedded a new opener . Big chance missed.

still don't understand why Yasir is in this squad...

Because we need a second spinner, and the other options that have been tried (Imad, Nawaz) have been average/mediocre.

Wristspinners are the way to go, especially against teams weak against spin, and Yasir has improved his game in the shorter format since his last stint. The other difference that will work in his favour is the the change in LOI captaincy. I know Yasir's fitness is borderline and he doesn't offer much with the bat but he could prove to be a good option where conditions suit playing two spinners.

The alternative is that he hasn't been selected to play and Mickey just wants to keep a close eye on him to make sure he has fully recovered/is keeping fit with a view to the upcoming tests in UAE.

If they are sensible, they will use this series to test the bench strength and try out different combinations. Something like this:

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Haris Sohail
3. Babar Azam
4. Sarfaraz Ahmed
5. Shoaib Malik
6. Asif Ali
7. Shadab Khan
8. Faheem Ashraf
9. Muhammad Amir/Hassan Ali
10. UKS/Junaid Khan
11. Yasir Shah

It's a pity SSA hasn't been selected- this would have been a good opportunity for him.

Shadab, Hafeez and Nawaz are already in the squad. So Yasir being the '2nd spinner' argument makes no sense .. and I'm not even counting Malik and the part-timers

At least read what I wrote.

Only thing I didn't cover in my OP is Hafeez who shouldn't even be in the squad.

Expecting Fakhar to be getting 3 if not max 2 centuries against this rookie Zimbabwe side, all the others should be able to do the same too especially if Pakistan bat first in most of the games, they should be looking at scores of in excess of 350+ to 400.

Both Imad and Nawaz have outperformed Yasir in ODIs by a big margin and both can bat better than him. Then, there is already a leggie in Shadab so Yasir's inclusion makes zero sense.

If Fakhar fires he may even get a double hundred against this Zim Team.

I want us to bat second in as many matches as possible. If we bat first we will score 300+ everytime and Zim will be dismissed for 100 odd.

Both Imad and Nawaz have outperformed Yasir in ODIs by a big margin and both can bat better than him. Then, there is already a leggie in Shadab so Yasir's inclusion makes zero sense.

Imad has fallen out of favour with the management for a reason. He's overweight, has failed with the bat pretty much every time it's required and has refused to improve his bowling. In short, he's lazy. Check his bowling average in recent times and you might be surprised; teams have worked out you just play him as a medium pacer. Nawaz is a better bowler and fielder but doesn't add anything with the bat. Only SLAO who should be considered at the moment is Zafar Gohar, but he has only just returned from injury.

So the question is who should be the second spinner? Playing two wrist spinners in the shorter format is a good strategy, especially if conditions suit/playing against sides weak against spin. Yasir and Shadab are very different legspinners and could complement one another. Yasir can keep it tight with his world class control when required (i.e. the role Imad is supposed to play) but he can also attack when required. Based on PSL/CPL/Big Bash he has improved his variations so this outing should be more successful. Shadab can then take advantage of the pressure that is built by Yasir.

The other factor is the captain. Under an aggressive captain like McCullum, Yasir has shown he can succeed in the shorter format. Likewise, Sarfaraz will utilise him better than Misbah/Azhar ever did.

Even if conditions mean there is only room for one legspinner in the playing XI, what's the harm in having Yasir in the squad? Yasir Shah is a world class bowler and given Shadab still has a lot to learn about legspin it would probably be useful to him to have Yasir around the squad. The other thing is what happens if Shadab gets injured? It's always worth having someone ready to go.

I do have reservations about his fitness/batting ability but the same is true of Imad, and Imad/Nawaz barely contribute in recent times. Plus, with the induction of Shadab, Faheem, Hasan etc. there is plenty of lower order.

Like I said, worse case he might not even play and they have simply selected him just so Mickey can keep an eye on him to make sure he is on the right track for the test series.

I appreciate his selection might seem odd but there is a logic to his selection. For me, a lot depends on the playing XI and getting the combination right. This is as good a series as any to experiment, and if it doesn't work, move on. You are of course entitled to disagree with his selection, but that doesn't mean his selection makes zero sense. It just means you disagree with it.

Changed my mind after the India-England match. Let's give this line up a shot:

1. Fakhar
2. Babar
3. Haris
4. Sarfraz
5. Malik
6. Asif Ali
7. Fahim
8. Shadab
9. Hasan
10. Yasir
11. Amir

With Asif and Fahim being promoted if we're in a favourable position to see what they can do with the bat.

You made a good point that Yasir was successful under attacking captain like McCullum so it will be interesting to see how he will perform under Sarfaraz.
I think it is a good move by the management to play two wrist spinners in the form of Shadab and Yasir.
If Yasir fails, then other wrist spinners like Usama Mir and Irfan Khan should be picked, instead of going back to Nawaz/Imad.

At first I thought it was Babar, but then I realized it was Hafeez. It was Qadr.

Really hope Babar gets at least one 100 in this series after the horror show in NZ.
