“India will be under more pressure, as compared to Pakistan, during the T20 WC game" : Babar Azam

Babar Azam speaking to reporters:

“India will be under more pressure, as compared to Pakistan, during the T20 World Cup match as they have not played T20 cricket as a group for quite a while. India are currently playing Test cricket and after that, they will get busy with franchise cricket. The UAE is like our home ground and we will try to give our 100 percent on the field.”

“As far as our match against India is concerned, so obviously it’s a high-pressure game. I think we will be more prepared as compared to them after playing international games, they will come after playing franchise cricket. I am personally looking forward to this encounter"

“I had a positive discussion with Ramiz [Raja] bhai. He shared his ideas and mindset with us and we would like to carry that forward."

"We have picked a balanced squad for New Zealand ODIs. We are facing issues in the middle-order and this series is a good opportunity for players making a comeback to cement their place in the side. There is no pressure of captaincy on me. I try to learn from my mistakes"

"I can’t talk individually about Sarfaraz. I think the chief selector has explained it already"

“These are the best possible players we had. We tried to include some players to fill in the gaps, especially middle-order batting"

“See, criticism is always there but we select players who we need. We can’t make everyone happy. Our focus is on the series and we will try to win it"

“We will play seven T20Is against two top teams, New Zealand and England. These matches will be important for us in preparations for the T20 World Cup"

And the verbal diarrhea starts. Expect a statement from our players on daily basis now until the big day arrives.

Pakistan 132/8
India 133/3 (17.4 overs)

The usual script.

Indian captains: -

“India vs Pakistan is just another game for us, it’s no different to us playing England or Australia”.

Pakistani captains:

- “Pressure on India”
- “High Pressure Game”
- “We will TRY to win”
- “Our star player better than their star player”

Lol and here we go :mw3. I'm getting Waqar 2016 T20 WC vibes. I swear, can Pak players and staff not answer India related questions normally and in a more grounded manner?

Lets assume he says India is a far better side than us..what would your reply be on this statement of Babar?

Not sure there should be much hype around India Vs Pakistan matches anymore.

India have moved to another league and gained significant achievements over the last few years. They are amongst the best teams in the world.

Pakistan on the other hand have helmets coming off after scoring 50s vs the Zimbabweans.

A reasonable and sensible comment by Babar that will almost certainly be mischaracterized as something more insidious by dummies looking for drama.

He didn't really say anything much in his full statement. Can some people please calm down?

India will beat Pakistan but lose to New Zealand in the group stage. Pakistan can beat New Zealand though. So, it can be any two team to qualify to semis. Ofcourse, it is just a prediction but there are good reasons for this to happen.

He didn't really say anything much in his full statement. Can some people please calm down?

He did. Saying India would be under more pressure is a dumb statement. Saying that it's a high pressure match is a dumb statement.

Why do our players NOT learn? Why can't they just shut up and not say anything about this game? And yes, it is VERY easy to do so even if promoted for a response.

Babar Azam : Apni halat dekh lo; India at least is giving a fight to England.. What we did except for pure surrender against England C team
Being a proud Pakistani , I feel ashamed the way Pakistan cricketers, coaches, selectors speak so highly about themselves in World Cup game against India

Its a T20 match. On the day any side can beat a top side but certainly Pak cant beat India in a WC match. Reason being Pak players are mostly cowards

Can they please just shut their mouths before any India-Pak game ...India doesn't seem to bother much about these clashes while the Pakistanis unnecessarily create pressure on themselves by giving statements on daily basis before every indo -pak clash ...it's been a routine for so long now and each time they get bashed badly !

India-Pakistan rivalry no longer has the same intensity like before. It used to feel like a war back in the days.

India-Pak cricket rivalry has cooled off since 2011.

Our players need to stop saying the same proverbial stuff they have been saying for last 10-12 years now. "The Pressure Will Be On India"

Just focus on your game and think about qualifying for the semis.

WC shuru hua nai aur pressure India pe hoga.

Babar himself is not good enough for Indian bowlers. They have always dominates him and made him look ordinary.

He also cannot handle pressure, so our fans should not pin their hopes on him.

Other than Rizwan or Fakhar scoring a half-century in a losing cause, there is not much hope from our batting lineup.

Our players need to zip it up - the more they speak, the more embarrassing the thrashing will be.

3 years back, Hassan Ali, still on cloud 9 because of the CT fluke, did his stupid celebration at the border and then claimed that he will take all 10 wickets against India in the Asia Cup.

However, Rohit and Dhawan made him look like a club bowler and spanked him all over UAE. He was getting trolled by the Indian fans as well when he was fielding on the boundary and rightly so.

The Indian team is three levels above Pakistan in terms of talent, skill and mentality.

Our players can only run their mouths, and it would be great if they could keep quiet for once and go through the inevitable thrashing on October 24 without talking much.

Players that talk about pressure in Indo-Pak games are usually the ones that feel it the most. You end up hyping yourself up and then get overwhelmed.

Pakistani players have been doing this for generations now.

Here we go again :facepalm

Already mentally preparing for this inevitable humiliation. Please just put your head down, train hard and keep quiet.

The panic of Pakistani players is showing from this statement.Pakistan players have a massive phobia of the Indian team because India has always been a superior team than us and they have absolutely thrashed us in ICC events. The prospect of playing India is already making Pakistani players lose sleep simply because they cannot compete against Indians. On the other hand, Indians consider Pakistan to be any other second-grade team and they are confident of defeating Pakistan 9 out of 10 times.

Congratulations to India already

We’ve been here and done this before but not learned from our mistakes unfortunately

Just insanity, doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results.

I cannot understand the diarrhoea people are posting in here. Our stupid journalists and media can't control their obsession with India and keep asking this question to Pakistani players to which Babar answered very politely and maturely: "India will be coming off to a test series in England followed by franchise cricket, as a group they won't play many matches before the Indo-pak encounter, on the other hand Pak will have 7 matches (plus practice games before WC) in which they can play the WC Squad, so the momentum will be with them in terms of preparation so there won't be as much pressure as compared to India"

So what's really wrong in this answer to a question that our journalists never stop asking??

I’m liking this confidence from Babar. Why do we want him to shut his mouth? India is under pressure given their entire country (and a few of our fellow ‘Pakistani’ forum members) are praying for the destruction of Pakistan. I think it’s great that he’s making statements, and Inshallah he’ll back it up with the bat too.

If a journalist asks Babar for his bank detail, is he going to give it?

The Indian journalists ask their players about this match too, their responses are always different from our players’ responses.

What was stopping Babar from saying, “India is just like any other opponent for us, the pressure in that game will be no different to the pressure we face against other teams. We all know India is a good team in all 3 formats, but in T20’s it’s always 50/50.”

Instead he just adds more pressure to himself and the team🤦🏻*♂️

Next it will be Waqar, who’ll claim that Shaheen is a better bowler than Bumrah.

And then Hassan Ali will talk about how Kohli is afraid of him etc.

Well you need to understand the difference between Pakistani players and Indian players is their "grooming". When India grooms their cricketers when they come to the arena, they completely transform them from street boys to superstars, a lot of work is done on their personality and their communications skills. Pakistani players lack that, when it comes to grooming players (in general) PCB is way behind BCCI, When you see babar doing interviews in English with an interpreter, the translation is always wrong, they can barely speak english, do you really think anyone in the PCB would bat an eye on the communications skills of our players?

Given that, I would say it was quite a mature statement, quite an upgrade from "Kohli Vohli apney ghar mein hoga" or "India ko India mein harayenge" or other bogus statements.

Too early for such mind games. India also handles pressure of such occasions much better then Pak does as seen in previous WC matches. Such behaviour trying to be controversial doesn't suit you Babar. Just score plenty of run's for Pak, that's all. On the day the better team will win with both going in with an equal chance.

I would probably agree with his statement if it was in regards to a knockout stage match

lol those days are gone.
Pakistan team is equal to India team in batting going by the low scores India has been posting in Au and Eng series.

The pressure is the same for both the teams.
it is equally on India and this is regardless of what and how Babar speaks or does

Comparing test match batting to t20s is comical.
India miles ahead in white ball batting.

He's got a point.

The Streak is a heavy load to lug around.

You get older, but The Streak keeps getting heavier. :snothappy

A team with a famous record in defeat will be the one under less pressure lol did someone mix something in Babar’s milk bottle ? :yk

Honestly, I don't think he said anything bad. Its not outlandish as your typical Pak cricketers but rather subtle attempt at putting some pressure on Indian players. And regardless of what Indian players say in public, they are under enormous pressure every time they play Pakistan in a World Cup especially with BJP in power.
And in T20, no team is invincible. Pakistan has a good enough team to beat India this time.

Babar should not make the same mistakes as his predecessors.

It is better to dodge these questions rather than making statements that will only be brought to media attention later on.

Babar's statement is also not factual to some extent. When Pakistan will be playing T20Is, it will allow us to form our final squad. India already has their final squad in mind, so they are a step ahead.

India's team management does not participate in the IPL, giving them plenty of time to orchestrate batting and bowling plans against all teams in the WT20.

We are in fact far behind with regards to planning.

Babar confident about Pakistan’s T20 World Cup chances

For a man regarded among the top batters in current world cricket, Babar Azam is a quiet individual in his role as the all-format Pakistan captain.

While there is no denying his standing as the country’s best batter — who currently tops the ICC One-day International batting ranking and has been overtaken by England’s Dawid Malan as the No.1 batter in Twenty20 Internationals — Babar is focusing on leading Pakistan at the T20 World Cup in the UAE where Pakistan open against India in the Group 2 clash on Oct 24.

“Obviously our preparations for the World Cup will be as best as possible, and the seven matches [five against New Zealand, followed by two England fixtures] we play would surely help us before the mega event,” Babar said in an interview with Dawn. “The stats say we’ve won 21 of the 31 matches and that is an indication our confidence level is high.

“We are quite familiar with the UAE conditions because we’ve played a lot on those pitches and it has been a lucky venue where Pakistan became the top-ranked T20 side. The [three-match] ODI and T20 series against New Zealand will be crucial for us as a group because it give adequate practice before the World Cup.

“Although it would have been nice if Pakistan had faced a full-strength New Zealand team just to give us good workout against one of the best sides who we’ll also play in the World Cup,” he added. “Our focus is to make sure Pakistan get to the UAE in a winning mode.”

The captain is hoping that the successful opening partnership he has developed with Mohammad Rizwan — who is the leading T20 run-getter this year with a tally of 752 from 14 innings (averaging 94.00) while maintaining a strike-rate of 140.03 — continues to prosper in the same vein.

“It’s nearly a year since Rizwan started opening the innings [with me] and together it was a prolific partnership. Ideally, as captain my desire is that we continue to provide Pakistan decent starts as much as possible, particularly during the World Cup,” Babar said. “Runs from the top matter a lot in T20 cricket, and as captain my wish is one of us should be batting deep into the innings, start power-hitting. And also make sure the momentum is not lost.”

Babar conceded Pakistan’s fielding has been a major worry and needs to be addressed with serious intent. “Definitely fielding is a grey area which needs drastic improvement. One can’t expect good results if we field poorly because good teams seldom give you chance to bounce back.”

Babar, in the meantime, lauded players for dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, which he described as the biggest challenge over the past 18 months for sportspeople.

“Life is the bubble has been really chastening because it cuts everyone from normal way of life. Living in bio-secure environment is extremely demanding when vice versa you are either confined to your hotel rooms or the ground and cannot go outside to chill out,” he stressed. “But the way our players have responded to this situation is remarkable because once you enter the bubble you are away from family and friends. All credit to the players for coping with the pandemic life because it is traumatic, both mentally and physically.”

LOL. Looks like you didn't read the latest controversy surrounding Niraj Chopra lending his javelin to a Pakistani athlete. Niraj himself had to calm down the right wingers accusing Pakistani athlete of ‘sabotage’. For a govt who blames every ills in India to Pakistan and its brainless supporters, a loss to Pakistan in a freaking WC match is unthinkable.

Come on.... it’s in the UAE. I believe that even after losing a few wickets early Pakistan can make it to 150 and they have won almost 90% of games defending 150 plus.

However vs a strong Indian line up who will get used to uae pitches with the ipl, Pakistan will have to bowl out of their skins. If Pakistan are chasing their winning probability will be reduced heavily so they need to bat first set a good total and bowl well with early wickets if they have any chance.

That was a very good reply that you wrote. It reflects self confidence, respecting the opponent and unpredictable nature of T20 all at the same time.

9-0 I think in world cup so far. Waiting for 10-0. It has always been an one sided affair when it comes to the most high pressure games in world cups. India has proved beyond doubt with that scoreline that India always can handle pressure whereas Pakistan can't.

5-0 in WT20, one of the wins was decided in that funny bowl-out where Gul and Afridi missed the stumps while batsmen like Uthappa and Sehwag made it look easy.

7-0 in 50 overs WC.

True that, with each win the next Indo-Pak WC contest becomes more nerve-wracking. If we lose once, we can play more freely I guess.

It's only a matter of time when the streak is broken. Might as well happen this WT20.

It will never be broken, unless India lose on purpose. Our lot just can't handle pressure. Never had never will.

Exactly - Pakistan have nothing to lose and can perform with freedom. For us, the moment there is a "1" in the column, the streak is over.

Any record will end eventually. India is never good in T20 international so it will be hardly any surprise if Pakistan beats India.

India will be under more pressure now, they CANNOT lose against this Pakistan team. This is essentially India vs Pakistan C.

Yeah saw that, ridiculous selection. Indian victory is just a formality now, no weapons in Pakistani squad to beat this Indian side.

The only fifty you score are against Scotland.
The only place Indian team has moved is back to India!

If you put down your tricolored glasses you will see that since 2007 India has won 1 T20WC, 1 ODI WC and 1 CT. Meanwhile Pakistan has won 1 T20WC, 1 CT and might win another T20 WC this year.

So please don't talk to much :shh

Where are you these days mamoon ? I am just worried ?

This thread started nervously for Pakistanis when babar made that statement
The only ones to be nervous were Indian fans because kohli loses the important tosses.
Losing first 2 in Dubai sealed the deal.

Credit to the man, he and and his team played like they had zero pressure. Credit where its due!
