My 12 fastest pace bowlers of all time rated in tentative order of bowling speed.Order is tentative and subject to correction.

Shaun Tait, Shane Bond, Dirk Nannes, Mohammer Sami, Mitchel Starc - all were quicker than few bowlers mentioned on the list.

alan donald says just before him thr was a left armer for south Africa - who was quicker than him - played a few internationals - just got injured. he's missing from your list as well as shaun tait, mohammed zahid, mohammed sami.

Your bottom 3 IMO shouldn't be on the list
 
Shaun Tait was far, far, far faster than Steyn ever was. Sorry Thakor this isn't a good list.

Guys from 8-12 should not even be in this list, I don't believe Allan Donald has an official recorded speed of 150 ks or more. He was a fast medium for most of his career, Imran official recorded speed of 137 ks... Heck Umesh Yadav's quickest is faster than all recorded speeds of bowlers from 8-12.... Fanboism reeks in this list....

List should be like this:

Shoib (Fastest ever)
Brett Lee (Close second or at his best same speed as Shoib)
Shaun Tait
Mohd Sami
Shane Bond

Eddie Smith has a list in which Donald has clocked 150 kph in the 90's.
 
I think srinath clocked 156 -157 during 1996 South Africa tour that has to be up there not as fast as shoaib and sami but that is serious pace, I know some on pp has a habit of demeaning him ,but as far as pace is concerned srinath has to be right up there.
 
I remember in one interview wasim said that srinath was seriously quick, but he also said if only he had the aggression to go with that pace he would have been far more successful, even during 1999 wc he was second quickest and that too when he was coming back from injury .
 
During late 80's to mid 90's was a sad time for Indian fans, as lot of talent was wasted due to petty politics of bcci and approach system,you guys make fun of kuruvilla but he wasn't picked during his peak yrs by the time he was picked he was done and dusted,yuvis father yograj had a tiff with kapil and thrown out of team never to play again, lot of shady things went then.

What method have you used for the ranking?
 
4 bowlers have officially clocked 160ks post 2000.

Shoaib Akhtar
Brett Lee
Shaun Tait
Mitchell Starc

Next Jeff Thomson was measured at 160ks by high speed cameras in 1970s.

So these are the top 5.

Sami ahead of Thommo and Waqar? Dont agree. I think bowlers like Patrick Patterson, Devon Malcolm, Frank Tyson were way quicker than Sami and Shane Bond.

12 is a stretch. Bhaijaan will focus on the top 5 quickest of them all :-

1. Jeff Thomspon - It is clear to anyone who watched Jeff bowl that he operated in the 170s at his peak and probably did touch 180 clicks a few times as well. The university of Auatralia also proved his speed through the use of high accuracy cameras. The best cameras ever made. He was an extraordinary bowler.

2. Atul Sharma - In Rajasthan Royals training camps it is believed Atul Sharma was bowling in the high 160s to 170s range. Whatever happened to him is a tragedy. Built like a tank as well. He was physically the most imposing figure in this group. His speed all came from his muscles that had evolved for one purpose only, to bowl fast.

3. Mohammad Zahid - Shoaib Akhtar admits that Zahid was way faster than he ever was which automatically means that like Atul he also was operating in the high 160s at his peak.

4. Pattrick Patterson - Jaffery Dujon the wicket keeper to all the famous Carribean quicks revealed that Patterson was by far the quickest bowler he kept to. Considering Malcolm Marshal operated in the 160s, Patterson was bowling well in the mid 160s at his very best.

5. Shoaib Akhtar - Officially this guy bowled the fastest record delivery in international cricket. Top speed of 161 clicks. Imagine if this was fast, how was the other 4 were and what would their top recorded deliveries be like.

Starc, Bond, Tait, Milne, L. Ferguson, Sami, V. Aaron, Wahab, Zahid, Flintoff, Roach etc. are/we’re all quicker than the likes of Imran, Steyn and Holding etc. A few of them were quicker than Donald as well.

Granted that some of these names are not close to the bowlers you mentioned in terms of quality, skills and legacy, but if there criteria of this thread is pace only, it will be unfair to exclude the names I mentioned for the likes of Imran, Steyn, and Holding etc., who were not quicker than the aforementioned bowlers based on average bowling speed.

Atul Sharma ROFL :))) I've seen several videos (including the pre-injury ones) of Jeff bowling and there's no way in hell he was bowling quicker than Akhtar or Lee.

Bhaijan You are a very respectable poster but you are wrong here, Atul sharma used to bowl 170 KPH without runup with a full run up he could crank upto 185 KPH easily.
He was slightly quicker than Jeff thompson and is the undisputed fastest bowler the world has ever seen.

Bhaijaan it's time to contemplate PP retirement im afraid. How could you forget Frank 'Typhoon' Tyson who might have bowled 190 kph according to some esteemed posters :( . Or Larwood for that matter.
 
The list looks pretty fair to me, except for Malcolm Marshall who between 1981 and 1984 could be terrifyingly quick.
 
There is one off quicks and there is consistently quick. For me the consistent quicks were:

Brett Lee
Allan Donald
Waqar
Ian Bishop( pre injury)
Brett Schultz ( didnt last long)
Malcolm Marshall(pre 87)
IK(pre 83)
Shane Bond
Sylvester Clark ( only saw him a few times)

Are you mocking the great Sharma Ji?

Remember his trundler cousin is wrecking havoc in England right now imagine if the real Sharma Ji comes back to international cricket India will be finishing test matches in less than 2 sessions.

Thank your lucky stars he did not have much interest in coming back to international cricket else he would have taken away the only argument pakistani fans have now which is "we had fast bowlers".

There should be a restriction that only those who have played 30 tests should get in these lists because many pacers may start off fast but lose the pedigree of genuine fast with more experience and more cricket.

Australia(4) - Lillee, Thomson, Starc, Lee, Johnson
South Africa(3) - Donald, Steyn, Rabada
Windies(6) - Marshall, Holding, Roberts, Bishop, Edwards, Roach
Pakistan(2)- Shoaib, Waqar
India(2)- Srinath, Umesh
England(1)- Flintoff( Wood will qualify soon)
New Zealand (1)- Bond
Sri Lanka(1) - Malinga

The likes of Cummins, Bumrah, Imran, Garner, Ambrose, Wasim, Hadlee were fast medium so don't qualify.

Lol Umesh Yadav doesnt even make the list from his era. Sami and wahab riaz were consistently quicker if you want to put names like Srinath and Umesh Yadav in the list.

Wahah doesn't qualify to the list. Forgot about Sami here, he was quick although trash but yeah he can be there.

Umesh Yadav is fast, he is faster than Bumrah, Shaheen and Cummins and about same speed as Rabada. Don't go by current age, even for his current age standard, he is borderline fast clocking at 138-142. At peak he was definitely fast.

You do realise that there is cricviz data available which places cummins and some of the other names well ahead of umesh in terms of average pace in test cricket, his average speed in tests is nothing great and he was way down on that list with average speed around 134-136 kph over a period of close to a decade.

Anyone who doesn’t think he was terrifyingly quick never watched him pre-1986. Yes sometimes he just concentrated on swing. But when he went quick he was terrifyingly quick. Ask Andy Lloyd

Cricviz data is only for 2 years.

That's because Cummins is still 27 and his pace will get dropped further with age. Umesh is currently a veteran and he has gone through all the upside and downside already. Overall, Umesh for a 34 year old is still bowling good pace in IPL currently.

So you added his name on the list of fastest bowlers based on things that did not happen or might happen in the future.

Is that what you could conclude based on my previous post??

That point was just to prove that the parameter that you are using has failed to cover up the age factor here. Anyone who is bowling fast at his young age who has played 10 games will obviously have faster career average speed than Waqar because Waqar's speed dipped in second half but is that enough to make the guy with 10 games faster than Waqar because his career average speed will be greater than Waqar's career speed and in defense of that guy, will you say that so we assume it based on things that did not happen or might happen in future?

Umesh belongs to fast bowlers category, not express but fast.

The point is when your mediocre it doesn’t matter. England used to have some seriously quick bowlers like Paul Jarvis, Greg Thomas etc. but if you’re not good enough no one cares about you just like yadav. You’re not listed as fast, fast medium, you are just nothing
 
Nobody who plays 3 formats is getting into this list which rules out Shaheen. Haris Rauf is "28" so unlikely to be getting any quicker.

Umran may get there, but given India have no experience on how to handle a bowler with genuine pace my prediction is that he'll fall short.

Speaking to a website Nannes opened up on how side prepared for the match against England in 2009 and he also quipped that he "had no idea about the national anthem".

"I was playing for a country that I've never had really lived in, the Netherlands. We had to get up and we had to sing the national anthem. And I had no idea about the national anthem. So the day before, we had a sheet of paper and we had to go and learn the national anthem", he said.

"And four hours in, I learned that I'm just going to shut my mouth and try not to sing at all! We went out and had it at Lord's. It was fantastic!"

The 45-year-old also recalled how the match made him and his teammates anxious.

He stated, "England made 163 and I was nervous. I stayed up in the changing room and didn't want to be a fidgety influence on the sidelines. I was sitting up in the change room, and every single nick, every top-edge went for a six. I and Ryan ten Doeschate were sitting in the room and we were wondering, 'When are we going to lose?"

"It got to the point that we were getting close. I got down and changed. My last memory was Stuart Broad in the last over. He bowled 6 balls and they had chances on all six balls. Once we won, I was sprinting out to the ground! We celebrated in the hotel. The English press was savaging the English team!"

The 2009 T20 World Cup saw Pakistan win the title, defeating Sri Lanka in the final. Chasing a target of 139 runs, Pakistan reached 139 for two in 18.4 overs, with Shahid Afridi smacking an unbeaten knock of 54 runs off 40 balls.
