Better to start a new thread for our innings. We are in pursuit of a monumental 393 runs @ 7.84 runs per over.

Open with Afridi and Razzaq? Remember, 434 was chased not so long ago. Always have faith.

Anyone thinking of a repeat of the 434 run chase, all i have to say is keep dreaming.

The team looked totally down in the field in the latter overs. It was as if they had completely surrendered

If South Africa can score it, why cant we?

Sorry, I dont believe Pakistan can win this one...........Afridi will need to play a innings of his lifetime(score of 150 plus in quicktime) if Pakistan was to win this one.

Their was no Mcgrath when 434 was chased down, no spinner even.

Difference is the SA bowlers wont bowl tosh like our bowlers did. Our bowlers couldn't even get the basics right you learn at the academies. 340-350 i would have said we have a chance. Almost 400? Dream on!

Exactly.........if Pakistan restricted SA for about 330, then maybe a chance............but with Pollock, Ntini in form and a spinner........its going to be very hard.

Plz don't forgot that Pakistani batting lineup can do anything and also we are the only team who will challenge Aus in WC.

I am not saying we are going to win it. But if you already given up, why watch the damn match?

Theres a difference between pessimism and being realistic. Im just being realistic.

Well that spinner is Robin Peterson, and truth be told, Graeme Smith is twice the bowler that he is

Trust me...........Pakistan will need a Afridi special today.

send afridi to open and then see 200 in first 20 overs.

Why i should trus u? :20: After all we are not chasing 500 here. :31:

The wicket looks really good, I don't see why not; Pakistan just have to keep up with the run-rate. There's no question of the pressure..in chasing down large totals, but there's always a chance if a suitable wicket is provided - which is the case here.

When was the 434 run chase?

Last year at the same ground. It'll be a tough ask though, but the players have to believe they can do it. Their body language when they walk out will be key. If you feel you can't do it, then may as well give up now.

Afridi will need to be opening and lets hope that he bats for 25 overs and utalizes the powerplays.

After all Pakistan are the team who can do the impossible.

They have got Inzy who nearly chased down 350 vs India 3 years ago single handedly.

The pitch is great for batting but our bowlers, particularly Sami and Naveed, bowled like a couple of clowns.

These guys deserve to be dropped for their terrible bowling. SA may well have scored 300-320 anyway, but these guys are the reason why Pak are trying to chase nearly 400. Wides, no balls, balls down the legside, short bowling when yorkers required, etc. That's what these guys are specialists at. Rana's poor fielding doesn't help either.

It will be a huge relief when Akhtar and Gul are back in the starting 11. Only then will Pak have a chance at the WC. With these two guys in the lineup playing together, forget it, particularly with Inzi's poor tactical acumen in the field.

392 which was not all down to good batting.

The bowling at the death was just terrible. You can't bowl short and at a good length. Even the spinners Malik and Hafeez were bowling short. Not a single pacer bar Rana could find the yorker and when he did, he managed it of a no-ball.

If you can bowl 6 different amazing deliveries in an over you become Wasim Akram but if you try to bowl 60 different deliveries in a match you look like a clown and it seems the circus has come to town.

Anyway looking ahead, Can Pakistan do a South Africa to South Africa.
We nearly managed it against India in Karachi. Juggling balls put aside and Fingers crossed,

I just wanna see a good game, and just for some reason, I have a feeling it will be quite something.

Open with Hafeez and Akmal with Afridi at 3.

No way man :D whatever, Pakistan can do whatever they want, thats how they acted in the field, with the attitude of "whatever"....

If Pakistan win this somehow.....wow, just wow. but its hard to believe afridi and co chasing 400!

Pakistan will have tplay Pollock like SA played Aseef (for Hash) at the beginning, as he's the danger man. Ntini tends to be expensive in one dayers, so if you can just play solidly and form a base before swinging like SA did then you've the batsmen to make it work. If you start with Afridi and Razzaq I'd wager they'd get tied down by Pollock and get out - then you've your most explosive batsmen gone. Nah, keep them down the order, Maybe one to come in at 3/4 depending on the score to accelerate, but you've other batsmen to score quick runs.

Why is it that the SA bowlers bowled "tosh" to the aussies, yet they wont bowl "tosh to us?? :13: :21:

Wouldnt you love to be a fly on the wall in the Pak dressing room now ?

i would have this batting order

hafeez
afridi
razzaq
akmal
malik
inzi
yousuf
younis
rana
sami
asif

1 good thing is that afridi might be opening.
lets hope this pitch has flattened out even more

I think if they play with nothing to lose then they may be able to make a game of it otherwise I am afraid they will just crumble under pressure playing rash shots.

Will need one of the big 3 to get to a score in 3 digits to anchor the innings and Afridi or Akmal to stay for at least 15-20 overs in the middle, we may have a game then.

Realistic Odds:
Pakistan crumbling (scoring less then 250) 50%
Save face but still not good (score around 300) 25%
Making a game of it (score around 350) 20 %
Winning it 5%

Good start from Pollock, three dots so far.

Akmal and Hafeez opening, Afridi will come one down.

Absolutely NOT. You don't send players the quality of Younus and Yousuf so low in your order. Never. If we do win this, then the middle three will play a big part as well. You can never win it on the hope that the big hitters carry you through to 50 overs.

its getting worse why have we sent out two out of form players

We need to get off to a flying start...

Its not gonna be easy treating Ntni and Pollock like good ol' Sami and Naved!

Why even change your batting order? No real reason to do that.

The SA fielding is going to make a big difference, they're pretty good at saving 1s and 2s in the inner ring.

I love the way everyone just ignored that messed up slide like it was nothing.

On another day he'd have completely f'd up his knee.
