1st Test between England (275 & 170/3) and New Zealand (378 & 169/6) ends in a draw

What a coincedence Devon Conway and Saurav Ganguly both born on 8th july, elegant Left handers who have made 100 @ Lords on Debut....And on the birthday of the great Wasim Akram...

What a classy innings from Conway. On debut as well. Extraordinary.

I was feeling rather pessimistic last night about the outcome of this game, but to give credit to England they have made a strong comeback with the ball today. Wood and Robinson have looked excellent together.

I would still rather be in New Zealand’s position with the runs on the board, but there is now at least a chance of a competitive Test match playing out.

This Bracey guy is not a good keeper. England are doing a disservice to him by playing him at 7 and as a keeper.

India ain't winning anything. They can't win in England.

You say that as if we've been losing every game by an innings over there... :91:

If not for a certain Sam Curran, it'd have ended 3-2 in India's favour last time around.

Man you guys can only give excuses.how many did they won?? India won't win a single test this time around.

What a terrific shot for 6 from conway....hope he gets to a double....hope robinson gets a fiver...

Even NZ's No.11 can hold a bat. Although Hasan Ali and Noman Ali have improved our tail somewhat, our tailenders should take note. Still recall the embarrassing spectacle of Naseem Shah dancing like a flamingo just for a forward defensive vs Australia.

Amazing achievement from Devon Conway - a dream start to a Test career to get a double hundred at Lord's.

NZ 378/10 (122.4) CRR: 3.08
Day 2: Innings Break

Congratulations Conway
Did not deserve to be run out

This 39 run partnership with Wagner might prove to be crucial

Awful batsman this rory burns. This english batting lineup should give India hope.

Jamieson + Southee + Wagner + Boult lower order might be a big threat for India in the WTC final as it has been since the 2018 overseas series.

southee's bowling better than anderson. Should have gone for a review dont know why was he reluctant.

Jamieson's bowling action is so familiar.. Reminds me of some past cricketer's bowling action.

Flintoff is it?

Bad dismissal from Crawley. This top order is totally inept.

Said in the series preview thread that against a quality NZ attack, having only one batsman in your top six averaging above 40 (Joe Root) is asking for trouble.

ENG don't have the all-rounders in the lineup to compensate either.

This series is like a warm up for NZ’s prep for the WTC final, for the ECB it’s probably about money and nothing else, England are not here to win they are just showing up with their C team to get smashed, you could argue they are testing the bench for the Ashes but I very much doubt that is the main motivation.

I think all of top 6 played in India how is this Eng C

Stokes and butler are the only ones missing.
Robinson is probably a better bowler than woakes

Broad is their first choice, but nz have not been bothered by him

Would be surprised if England made even 250 here.

If Stokes were available, ENG could have dropped one of the seamers and gone in with a spinner like Leach. Stokes missing destabilizes their entire playing XI with the effect greater than just one player being unavailable. ENG are in strife in this match because of the missing spinner. Stokes being unavailable has had a domino effect of sorts.

Root playing his 104th match. The same number Sehwag played. They have practically the same numbers except the strike rate.

Another day the match will finish with full quota of overs not bowled.

Jamieson's gonna absolutely destroy us in the final, isn't he?

Not just Jamieson. Their entire attack. NZ have the best swing attack in the world. Even without Boult , they have swung ball a lot more than England have. With Boult back for the WTC final, I dont fancy our chances.

I think NZ will have a big advantage having already played couple of games. And whatever the outcome of final India will hold edge over England later on

Grandhomme is bowling steadily , just what you want from a fifth bowler in test , keep it tight.

It depends on the pitch , if there is no swing , Indian batsmen will pile up big scores.

If Grandhomme can do this holding job from one end - or ENG allow him to settle in that role, then game over for Root and co. Wagner, Southee and Jamieson have to feel the pressure bowling from both ends, like ENG bowlers did.

Left handers have averaged 68 in the match so far
Right handers have averaged 9.

Rory Burns and Joe Root share an unbeaten stand of 93 as they take England to stumps at 111/2 on day two.

They are trailing New Zealand by 267.

Mark Wood prised the game open for England with that wicket of Nicholls. He bent his back and although his record at home is poor, you need somebody with that pace on a pitch like this.

From 246-3 you'd be looking at 400-450 so England have done well to limit NZ - apart from Conway and Nicholls the other batsmen were kept quiet.

Overall, it's fairly even. Root and Burns deserve credit for stabilising things after the usual early wickets but couple of quick wickets tomorrow and pressure will be back on them.

A record double-century from Devon Conway helped New Zealand to a strong first-innings total before England bounced back with Joe Root and Rory Burns' solid stand.

England reached stumps at 111/2, trailing by 267, after bowling out New Zealand for 378 earlier in the day.

New Zealand were guided to a strong total on the back of Devon Conway's sensational 200 (347) with valuable contributions by Henry Nicholls 61 (175), despite the spirited bowling effort of Ollie Robinson (4/75) and Mark Wood (3/81).

England were rocked early in the innings courtesy of a brilliant spell of bowling by Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee. Jamieson struck first, trapping Dominic Sibley for naught in the third over of the innings. Southee then induced an outside edge from Zak Crawley, with a beautiful out-swinging delivery, which found the gloves of BJ Watling behind the wickets.

England were left reeling at 25/2 with Rory Burns and Joe Root at the crease as they head into Tea.

Root and Burns displayed their patience as they helped revitalise England's innings. The duo stitched together a third-wicket stand of 93* runs, coming to England's rescue.

The duo weren't troubled by the New Zealand bowlers as they picked up the scoring rate with the end of day's play looming. Burns notched his ninth Test half-century in 90 deliveries while Joe Root finished the final session 8 runs shy of his fifty.

Earlier, New Zealand started the day on a positive note as Nicholls and Conway picked up where they left off on the opening day. The pair added 42 runs to their overnight partnership of 132 for the fourth wicket. During the course of which, Nicholls brought up his 11th Test fifty.

It was the introduction of Mark Wood that help provide the much-needed breakthrough for England. A short-ball did the trick against Nicholls, inducing a top edge that flew to Robinson at long leg. Four overs later, Wood struck again, drawing an edge from Watling, finding Sibley in the second slip.

The fall of the wicket triggered a middle-order collapse for New Zealand. Robinson trapped Colin de Grandhomme for a duck after a good review from Root. In the very next over, Mitchell Santer followed suit after falling to Wood for no runs.

England went into lunch the happier side, picking up four wickets and conceding only 68 runs in the first session of the day.

England resumed in the same manner after lunch as Robinson made Kyle Jamieson his fourth victim of the day. Southee didn't manage to stick at the crease for too long after, falling prey to James Anderson.

Despite that, Conway powered on, with a helping hand from Neil Wagner. The duo picked up the pace towards the end as they added a quickfire 40 runs to the total. Conway registered his Test double hundred on his debut in style, with a six over fine leg. His milestone made him only the seventh player to score a double hundred on Test debut.

Conway's sublime innings came to an end in the very next over after being run out but his last-wicket stand with Wagner gave New Zealand a major boost, putting up a solid first innings total.

A good innings from Rory Burns in response. He was seeing the ball very well.

Burns certainly struggled in the Subcontinent recently and this is something that he needs to do a lot of work on, but he has been plundering runs in the County Championship this season already and he looks a very useful opener for English conditions.

He is more comfortable with seam bowling and the short ball stuff. He is a bit lucky that boult is not playing.

Extremely overcast and gloomy here..

Expect the ball to swing around

Root caught at slip first ball off Jamieson. Typical after a day is lost waiting in the dressing room.

If NZ can dislodge England under 225, they stand a good chance for win. England's batting is extremely fragile and not much depth too this time around.

New Zealand is in a winning position.
But I predict he eng will just manage a draw

England are extremely lucky that NZ dont have Boult in this series. These guys can even swing the kookaburra let alone this Dukes ball. Southee has consistently got more swing than any of the English bowlers. Boult would have found even more.

What an awful performance from England. They are easily the fourth best side after India, Australia and New Zealand given their inability to dominate at home.

Cracking ball from southee, excellent bowling.
engalnd are pretty much done, congrats nz

England has a terrible batting order lol
