What's new

2015 World Cup result | NZ beat South Africa by 4 wickets in a nail biting encounter

That would be so unfair to SA but we still have tomorrow as back up day

Nope....if some play is possible for today, even if they have reserve day tommorow, its not that all overs of saffers innings will be played...

Great signs for NZL...if saf innings end here and nz start batting, their target is 264,from 38 overs..will be achievable easily

That will be tragic. We need to bat at least 5-6 overs.

D/L is a joke with the rules changing all the time. Hopefully it doesn't come down to that.

cricinfo:
5.35pm It has almost stopped raining, says Andrew McGlashan. We have lost 44 minutes by now

CricInfo:
In case the match is not completed today, we have a reserve day tomorrow with play resuming from where it stops. If we have lost overs today, and then a further interruption pushes us into tomorrow, the match will continue to be a curtailed one. If over two days we don't get a result, New Zealand will go through by the virtue of having finished higher in the group stages

So no more cere are deducted today, even if it rains for 3 hours?

In Other words 100 overs will be completed in 2 days ?

Lol rain has intervened in the battle of chokers.

If overs are reduced NZ will have all the advantage.

Although I think the rain should spice up the wicket a bit, which might help the SA quicks.

NZ need quick wickets though the ball will become softer and it will come on nicely #canberra :gayle

Rain helped NZ, they can regroup after what could have potentially become a major phainty.

ABD and Faf got in the zone and with a 45 min break will need to play themselves again..

Damage is already done Tahir and steyn will blow NZ with this score.

No, reserve day is only to make sure that we can get 20 overs game in worst case. If there is delay of more than one hour then we will start losing some overs. If it rains for the next 2 hours, we won't be seeing a 50 overs game here.

Personally with a reserve day, I would have liked to see full 50 overs game. It doesn't make too much sense to reduce the overs if you have reserve day. But I am seeing plainly as a fan from cricket here.

All the way at the bottom sadly. Not looking good at all. Not just the big guns retiring but our whole set-up is in very bad shape. The big guns have been masking those problems all these years but there's no hiding from it now. Thanks to SLC clowns already lost Hathurusingha at a crucial point in time when guys like Chandi and Thiri were about to come into the team, and now we'll lose Vass as well after this WC. So we are going backwards. Very quickly.

Exactly, we are going down we are replacing Bangladesh's current position. All our players do no have mental strength at all it shows in your body language. Look how awkward Thirimanne's celebrations are, look how dumb Kusal looks when he gets out, look what happened to Chandimal in the last 2 years. All our cricketers always look and sound nervous on camera, no aggression(lack of confidence). Nothing to mention about Dimuth, wasn't he supposed to replace Sanga? LOL, Angelo Perera looked like he has poor techniques and is a hack and Vithanage can't execute averaging 15 in Loi. Manjrekar compared Bhanuka Rajapaksa with Sachin lol and the guy is a flop now. Is there any cricketer that one should keep an eye on ? I've been hearing that SL is going to bring in quota system, I hope they don't bring any stupid quota system.

Agreed. We shouldn't lose overs if we have a spare day.

ICC has to be the worst sport organization in the world.

If there is God which there isnt but even if there was one then he certainly hates South Africa -_-

Ooh... Rain has already effected... If it starts now, they cannot start the charge from where they left, wet conditions is going to play now.

Let see, figures crossed !!

AB has almost taken the match away from NZ in this Eden park Semi like Inzi in 92

If SA bad luck continues , the SA innings will be over when rain stop and NZ will be chasing 260 + in 38 overs according to ESPN cricinfo. NZ will take it happily anyday

From cricbuzz-

"Well, it's been an hour since play was stopped. We'll start losing overs from now.''

RSA is cursed like the Chicago Cubs, they haven't won a championship since 1908.

Now imagine if it was Pakistan playing instead of South Africa, oh the reactions.. The South African posters on this forum are taking it quite well.

But 260 in 40 overs is good to chase if baz stay around for few overs imo. South African bowlers have good record in their names but didn't live upto their potentials in this World Cup.

May be we do not have hardcore protea fans around, you need to check comment section of some SA newspaper to realize they are no different.

But they never whine or complaint other than providing some valid criticism

Rain has to stop the play for atleast 90 more minutes for saf innings to end and nz to chase the target of 64 in 37 overs...so i think saf may get another 4-5 overs at worst

Won't they reduce the maximum quota of bowlers too ? Just never observed it and wanna confirm :p

Ideal will be if we don't lose more than 3-4 overs. That way main bowlers can't bowl more than 9 overs and mainly part timers has to bowl rest of the overs. But as always, that's asking for too much going by the luck we carry in WCs.

Hopefully this match won't be converted to 20:20 lol

40 overs match will be highly unfair to us. NZ will happily take it.

It shouldn't have been raining according to the forecast and the rain isn't stopping which is such a tragedy.

ICC is giving stupid vie where. Trying to complete this match in one day with reduced overs is a stupid idea when you can play full 50 overs by extending it in reserve day.

mohanstatsman 3 mins3 minutes ago

If in case South Africa are not able to bat, and if only 20 overs possible New zealand's target is 166

If it rains whole day on reserve day?

I know man, but that is what I see coming as per ICC rules. Just like espncricinfo commentary said " DRS can not calculate the likes of AB capacity to score in last 10 overs "

Then NZ will go through due to being placed higher in their group. I have no problem with that extreme situation.

But I don't understand why can't we play full 50 overs by continuing whenever game starts today. That's seems like a obvious option to me but not sure why ICC wants to finish game today with reduced overs. Doesn't make much sense to me to not use reserve day to get full 50 overs game.
