It’s all well and good that he’s performing in these leagues. But he’s shown time and time again, that when it really matters for his country he always goes missing.
He’s not gonna all of the sudden start defying his own nature at age of 40 and score clutch runs for us in the T20 World Cup.
This person has played every T20 World Cup there has ever been and hasn’t made a contribution of note in any of them.

He performed well in the 2007 edition. Remember his match winning Partnership with Misbah against Australia, when they were 45 -4 chasing 170. Since then there has not been much .

Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik has become the fourth batsman in the world to score 9,000 runs in the T20 format. On Sunday, Malik achieved the feat during Guyana Amazon Warriors’ win over Barbados Tridents in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Malik played a brilliant cameo of 32 runs from 19 balls as Warriors defeated Tridents by 30 runs and entered the finals.
The former Pakistan cricketer has now scored 9,014 runs in 356 T20 matches he has played till. Besides, he has also scalped 142 wickets.
Swashbuckling West Indies opener Chris Gayle holds the record for being the leading run-getter in T20s. Gayle has 13,051 T20 runs to his name from 394 matches, and is followed by Brendon McCullum (9,922 runs in 370 matches) and Kieron Pollard (9,757 runs in 489 matches).
Malik, 37, has represented Pakistan in 35 Tests, 287 ODIs and 111 T20Is.

Sending Shadab and Imad over Shoaib Malik potentially costed 20-30 runs to Pakistan
Not only did tail ender level sloggers waste all those deliveries but it also broke Mohammad Hafeez 3.0 momentum.
Hope this disasterous decision by team management will not cost Pakistan the match.

Shoaib Malik is also a slow starter just like Imad & Shadab. Pakistan simply lacks a power hitter down the order who can can smash it from ball one.
And before anyone says it...NO Umer Akmal is not the solution.

Babar Azam in his post match press conference after the 3rd T20I vs England mentioned Shadab Khan was sent in ahead of Shoaib Malik because they required a power hitter.

That could be a reason. Or because had he went in and failed his spot would have been in jeopardy. Now he can play against Zimbabwe and pad his stats, and ensure he wont be dropped.

Agree, why was he selected? What was the thought behind choosing him. I thought Shoaib was a power hitter I thought he role was to close the innings out. 15 balls left and Babar claims shadab and imad were brought out because their better power hitters then Malik. This is laughable!!

Shoaib Malik in this team is wasting a spot of someone who is more deserving. Why not try Khushdil Shah.
