What's new

2021 Men's Asian Champions Trophy Hockey

Also in Commonwealth Games 2018 we topped our group, Aussies topped the other group.

Lost the SF against NZ, then the bronze medal match against England.

There is a pattern to our choking.

This is a serioud question but with all talent and support and professional boards india have for both cricket and hockey why do they seem to choke in big matches. Is it due to pressure , or just not being able to find a way to win.

All previous winners of Asian Champions Trophy have been India/Pakistan.

New champion this time.

At least we'll get to see another Indo-Pak fixture tomorrow.

That is true that we will see a new champion. For asian hockey as a whole that is a great thing to see

Japan triumph 5-3. Congrats to them.

Japan vs South Korea gold medal match

India vs Pakistan 3rd place finish match

Japan and Korea will be in the final ( for the first time in this tournaments history) we will have a new winner, prior to that its either been India or Pakistan who won.

India and Pakistan will have to play for the bronze medal.

Despite India having some younger players in their squad they were the most dominate team on Paper, and even during group stage. Prior to Tournament staring India was heavy favorites to win. India to play for Bronze Medal is a disappointing result indeed. However they are still the strongest team in Asia, just had a bit of bad day it seemed.

For Pakistan, a bit disappointing too, you would suspect them to make the finals atleast, but at the same time, they have not played in a while either, and our with a new coach, but Making the finals would be more or less the suspected result. In terms of how Pakistan played still a lot of work needs to be done, however their is some improvement in their overall game. With the new coach, I want to see how Pakistan perform in the next year or two to really getting a better understanding which direction our team is heading into.

Despite playing for Bronze Medal if Pakistan can beat India, in high pressure match, it will be good for Pakistan Hockey, and they can try to build on that result.

To be Honest, it seems like India should win over Pakistan, and I will back India to win.

For the finals, i feel that will be a hard game to predict, but I will back Japan to lift the trophy

Congratulations to Japan, I think the writing was on the wall w.r.t what India was trying in this tournament.

Defending champions India on Tuesday suffered a 3-5 defeat against Japan in the semi-final the Asian Champions Trophy men’s hockey tournament. Japan started off with a flurry of attacks and penalty corner before gaining a two-goal cushion. The Indians fought back with a goal at the start of the second quarter but a penalty stroke towards the end helped Japan maintain the two-goal lead. Later, a defensive lapse from the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallists led to the fourth goal before Japan made it 5-1 towards the end of the third quarter. The intense fourth quarter was headlined by Harmanpreet Singh, who scored one to reduce the deficit. A PC rebound helped India to net one more goal but their unbeaten run ended with the loss versus Japan. India will now face Pakistan for the bronze.

Rio Olympics 2016 QF loss
Asian Games 2018 SF loss to Malaysia after pumping in 76 goals in pool stage
World Cup 2018 QF loss
Here world number 17 Japan is slaughtering Team India after losing to us 0-6 in the pool game

First we must solve our choking problem, then we can talk about 'Asian standards'. Losing to Malaysia and Japan in games that matter, we certainly have no right to call Asian hockey a joke.

We may be world number 3 but our record in big matches is bad. Big difference in our quality in pool/group stage compared to knockouts. Not much different to the cricket team.

The 2018 Asian Games loss was an upset. Same with today

Rest were on expected lines. Anyways Indian hockey in on an upward trajectory. Today was a bad day

India beat Pakistan 4-3 to win bronze.

Horrible PC conversion for us today. And 2 yellow cards in final 5 minutes, bad discipline.

Entertaining see-saw match

India went ahead in Q1, then Pak scored 2 to take the lead, India equalized just 3 seconds before the end of Q3 to level the scoreline 2-2. India scored 2 more goals in Q4 to take a 4-2 lead before Pak found the net once in the final 2 minutes. Nervous times for India in the last 4-5 minutes when they were reduced to just 9 men, courtesy 2 yellow cards, but managed to hold on to the lead.

Hockey: India bags bronze medal by defeating Pakistan by 4-3

Match Summary:

India, who were the defending champions along with Pakistan in the last edition of the tournament in Muscat, will return with a consolation prize after having lost to Japan 3-5 in the semifinals on Tuesday.

India took the lead in the very first minute through vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh before Sumit (45th), Varun Kumar (53rd) and Akashdeep Singh (57th) struck a goal each.

Pakistan's goals were scored by Afraz (10th), Abdul Rana (33rd) and Ahmed Nadeem (57th). It was India's second win over Pakistan in the tournament after having beaten the same opponents 3-1 in the round-robin stages.

South Korea have won their First Asian Champions Trophy
South Korea and Japan Played to a 3-3 tie (Korea won on penalties by a score of 4-2)

India has captured the Bronze Medal by beating Pakistan, 4-3.

Overall their has been some improvement in Pak Hockey, but a long way to go, aside for missing chances and not always converting their Penalty Corners, as a whole in this tournament, Pakistan also did give up a lot of goals as well. Something that will have to be worked on.

Regardless a good tournament, South Korea winning the whole thing was not a suspected result as all so good on them.

Jang Jong-hyun was the tournaments highest Goal scorer with 10 goals.

Harmanpreet Singh was Indias Highest goal scorer with 8 goals.

Afraz was Pakistan highest goal scorer with 4 goals.

Pakistan has been horrible at converting PCs. We mess up most of them. We really need another Sohail Abbas.

Pakistan has not been good at Penalty corners for a while, Also need to be better on defence, and i miss goalkeeper Salman Akbar he was a beast.
