What's new

4 wickets for Dom Bess as India close on 257/6 on Day 3 of the 1st Test

England in driver's seat at this point.

India need to aim for 380 now.

I think he needs to cut a few of his shots. Too many shots and he ends up giving a catch to fielder.

He has the talent but definitely needs temperament for test cricket. You can't play like it's ODI as you may make some quick runs but sooner than later you will get out.

It's lunch. England have won all the sessions in this test match except for first session on the first day.

England sitting pretty.... albeit is a slender advantage that could easily be diminished by a Pujara-Kohli batting masterclass this afternoon....

jeeteshssaxena just saw your reply from yesterday's match thread (which is locked). lol where did i claim that Eng will beat Aus in Aus? lol wth are you imagining things?

its almost certainly gonna be a long partnership. England are leaking too many runs tbh. RR too high

The advantage is much more than slender right now. The time left can become an issue.

My point is that he hasn’t demonstrated that consistently. And India is not a place you run through batsmen due to sheer pace. We have plenty of examples in Mitchell Johnson, Nortje, Brett Lee and more.
The only one I remember having success in India due to pace is the one and only Shoaib Akthar. But then he knew how to bowl in these conditions

Steyn ran through India once in 2009(?)

and i remember Chris Martin of all people had GOAT Indian batting lineup reeling before lower order made a recovery.

it happens but youre right its not common at all.

I think you're being too generous.

Obv runs are a lot but these guys batting out there are as good as they come in these conditions.

Plus England dont have the bowling to maintain sustained pressure.

Tim southee got 7 fer in one innings in Bangalore 2012

Unless Anderson can get the reverse going it will be a hard day for the veteran.

I just want to know why now adays lunch break is only for 35 minutes it used to be for 40 minutes

youre talking as if that 5 mins is what will make all the difference..

anyways i think if there is change in innings in the session they shorten the break a bit.

Dude i never said any difference thing i dont watch much test match but i know about 40 minutes lunch break session so i thought may be 35 minutes is temporary or there is some reason for this

Pujara is one of the toughest nut in the world to crack , it will take huge effort ball to get him.

England have to go all out here , there is NO second plan , either they win or draw , so you have to get 20 wickets to win . They need to produce 20 such balls , they have got 2 till now.

Concentration from Kohli watching from the non striker's end on how closely he's watching Bess deliver from the hand.

If Eng bowls well, they have a good chance here. Some turn here.

Archer is really impressive today. Would have got Kohli had a leg slip been up.

Bess is better than I thought. He has that odd shuffling approach but a strong action and is getting some turn.

England have to be patient.....

Anderson’s bowling ok enough to be fair.

Post Steyn, this is the best fast bowling I have seen from an overseas batsman in India in form of Archer.

:inti

To bowl well and use the conditions you need skill , unfortunately, England bowlers do not have that spin skills with them.

Tbf I’ve been impressed with Bess in the 2/3 overs I’ve seen him bowl. Obv he’s never gonna be running through sides or become a leading world spinner but he can be a good option especially in England.

Lol dunno why I LOLed

They have created some chances with such a huge lead. The problem is spinners may not be able to take advantage even if turn comes into the picture.

Stuart Broad was always better than Jimmy with the Kookaburra and SG. Jimmy got lucky with the test match he got in 2012 tour, Broad would have done equally well in that test.

Well blow me down. Bess strikes and the champion is back in the hutch.

He is same standard as Ian Salisbury or Paul Harris from SA

Eng is firmly on top here. Even if India scores 100 plus without losing they can be 180/4. Eng just needs to keep bowling well and wait for mistakes. Indians will have a hard time playing defensive for too long.

Broad has the potential to get akward bounce from nowhere , he can produce wicket taking balls on any surface , I feel he has more impact on sub continent pitches

Kohli looked unsettled eversince he came to bat,it was coming

Pujara seems soo comfortable than how he was in australia though

Playing defensive should not be done , you need to score whenever there is chance , getting stagnant is always dangerous. Even if India lose another couple of wickets , they need to make sure they should not stop rotating strike.

Rahane is an awful batsman, he will bat meekly and throw his wicket to Anderson.

I said due to SHEER PACE. Steyn ran through Indians because he could get his famous swing that day rather than solely due to his pace and Chris Martin was never an out-n-out fast bowler.

Saurav ganguly calling Karun nair right now beta 300 banyoge I have opportunity for you

50 more overs left today, this has all the makings of an intense battle :)

Test cricket at its best.

Lovely bowling from Bess to get rid of Kohli.

Anderson reversing it.

India under pressure.

Pujara is a better batsman than Kohli in subcontinent. SIF was spot on. Pujara has much tougher series and tougher runs compared to Kohli in Asia.

Styen was ATG bowler , he is no doubt in top 10 of all time.

Kohli is all round player , who plays all formats and excels in all of them , something which Pujara cannot even dream of

Roooooooooooooot takes a blinder! What is going on?

What was that from Rahane.

Club level shot to a full toss.

unbelievable catch but what kind of ridiculous shot was that?!?!?

:)) Wow Pant at it again, this is identical to last month in Australia.

If he gets a century here he's going to start becoming a Big Name in India and World Cricket.

From what we saw in Australia, India will bounce back even if they lose here

ENG 578
IND 73/4 (26.3) CRR: 2.75
Day 3: 2nd Session - India trail by 505 runs

India is in trouble now. Great catch by Root.

Pitch is not breaking up though (not yet), just scorecard pressure.

England will not get a better chance to win this Test.

India reeling. Not sure when that happened last in India

He was nervy every single bowl against spin. I haven't seen an Indian batsman this nervous while playing spin.
True that. And its surprising that he comes from Mumbai who always had great batsmen who played spinners with ease.

Pant is a name that makes bowlers shake , he is the next avatar of Gilchrist

when there is Pant
The bowlers are stunt
They shake in their pants :))

Nothing special in the pitch yet

Apart from rohith wicket all are gifted by indians

Pujara needs to give strike to Pant here , he is depriving audience of some glorious hitting here
