What's new

4 wickets for Dom Bess as India close on 257/6 on Day 3 of the 1st Test

Dom Bess is a rich man's Moeen Ali.

A much better bowler and a better batsman against pace compared to Moeen bhai.

Team run rate now well below 3.

Where are the Boring India posts?

Tremendous performance from England. What a fabulous morning of Test cricket - hard to track three Tests at once !

This guy Pant has a terrific eye but he’s not getting into line, he’s reaching for the ball because his back leg withdraws.

76-4 WOW!

India in tatters, Pujara wicket will break the backbone of the batting. The way Pant is playing, he might get out anytime

Lol is Leach in team for tourism purposes? Specialist spinner who’s bowled one over in India after 30 overs.

India are mentally exhausted from the Australia victory. This series came too soon.

Bess overpitching and getting picked off by Pujara.

Here’s Leach.

Pants being a bit irresponsible at this point. May come off

Pant and India need to realize hitting boundaries is meaningless here as England haven’t scored 200 or 300 it’s 600 they wouldn’t care even if pant gets a 25 ball 50 and gives his wicket away

Lol, Pant won't last long here if he continues this way...he has to tough it out rather than slogging

Staying in the crease is also dangerous with the rough on the left hander's offside being targeted by Leach.

The problem here is India have to go a long way. A quick 70 will not be enough. But if Pant attacks, that is the only way he could make an impact, a bit like Sehwag.

Their key players all sat out so they should be raring to go. If anything it's overconfidence from that series which appears to have resulted in a bit of a reality check.

The fact is that the Australia win wasn't as great as it looked. Aus were terrible. England are playing better in Indian conditions than Australia did in their own.

The overconfidence and arrogance from India has been a big thing here. In the two threads on PP about predictions for this series and also the one about the World Test Championship final, there were just an raft of Indians predicting 4-0 against England and discussing their prospects for beating New Zealand in the final.

Well he can step out of the crease and play it along the ground rather than slogging it in the air with fielders waiting on the fence.

A 40 ball 100 won't do any good here, India needs him to bat the whole day

Kohli was the only key player who sat out. Rohit, Gill, Pujara, Rahane, Pant, Ashwin and Bumrah were all there.

Not saying that should be an excuse.

Strewth that six was nearly out. Hold your nerve Leachy boy!

Yeah but that is coming from arrogant Indian fans, not the players who are respectful.

Yeah....we saw it yesterday as well with many predicting India to get 700

The series has just started...

Leach’s attempt to dazzle Pant with his shiny head is failing.

New Zealand will be favorites in England against India. :inti

Lol I still think it’s gonna be india win with decent margin.

And generally based on last England tour to India + inexperience of English batting lineup + strength of India at home + form of Indian team - predicting a whitewash is fair enough prediction

Eventhough Pant is counterattacking and all; Leach is leaking way too many runs. Dude has no control

Leach needs to be put out for a long spell of fielding on the boundary, in order to think about his lengths and his strategy. He’s getting creamed here.

I am in awe of Pujara's concentration levels. Already crossed 100 deliveries this inning, after batting those many deliveries in Australia

Good counterattack by India here, runs starting to flow fast.

Pujara has played many great come from behind knocks in Asian conditions.

This is a dangerous pair, they made Australia suffer too.

Yea it’s not just about Pant being attacking. He’s giving hit me bowls at terrible lengths

I saw Ashwin's video where he says Pant scares everyone is opposition as well as his own dressing room with his Aggressive batting

There is a method to Pants madness as well...He picks out which balls to hit. He has left/defended wider balls from the off-spinner both in Brisbane and here.

Give a couple of overs to Archer. He’s rested enough

Pant and Pujara with two contrasting styles work best. One reduces the deficit quickly and the other holds one end, allowing the one to bat freely.

It worked big time in Sydney and Brisbane few weeks ago.

Leach has psychologically lost the plot out there. The spinners in the next session for England need to be Bess and Root.

Is it just me or Did Pant say to Pujara - Ball ghoom rahi hai thodi (Ball is starting to turn a bit) ?

Pant is brilliant.. What a player! Wish we had one who can counterattack at will.. India is shaping up scary good for the next few years

Tbh I think today’s innings has been hit and miss. There were some close shaves on the boundary line. The innings in Australia were fairly chanceless

Still 225 runs behind for saving follow-on.

England's fielding were top notch. India can learn this, can't afford to drop catches.

Full credit to England management for persisting with Bess and he has put them into a strong position.

Yep completely agree

Brilliant by pant , sometimes the strategy of murdering lallu bowlers like leach out of the attack is the best way to go about it .

He needs to do the same to dom bess shouldn't let lallu bowlers settle and use a runs piled on scoreboard scenario to put pressure on the team.

Come on England, excellent so far, a breakthrough away from the lower order, really bossing this game.

lol keep hoping.

I'm guessing you haven't had too many male friends. Or it's so long back in time, you've forgotten how many times guys grab each other's neck without necessarily being ruffians. The reaction of the people around is key. That should tell you what was going on.

What happened..?

He will find the fielder soon and be dismissed; difference between Stokes and Pant's style is how risk free most of the former's boundary shots are.

Kohli seems to have lost his competitive edge for long now. He is still good, but far cry from those heady days when he used to be most prized wicket for opposition!

His head is immersed in too many things at the moment.
