4 wickets for Dom Bess as India close on 257/6 on Day 3 of the 1st Test

India need 225 to avoid follow on, long way to go. These two have to bat long, Sundar, Ashwin and Nadeem can also bat.. even Ishant can hold an end and defend.

I think England need to get Archer in immediately after Tea and try to get one of these 2 out.

Pant doesn't trust his defense like Stokes earlier in his career hence his approach is this to attack spinners.

Rishabh Pant against bald spinners:

Runs - 398.
Balls - 405.
Strike Rate - 98.27.
Average - 56.85.
Sixes - 13.
Dismissals - 7.

The problem here is India have to go a long way. A quick 70 will not be enough. But if Pant attacks, that is the only way he could make an impact, a bit like Sehwag.

Sehwag is known for big scores by the way, (and he scores that incredibly fast too)

Pant has an extraordinary eye.

Jimmy will start grumping and kicking the ground soon.

That will be hard for him as he keeps gloves also.

My point was w.r.t the fact that had Sehwag batted patiently and not play his natural shots, he won't have impacted as many games as he did.

Team run rate now well below 3.

Where are the Boring India posts?

You obviously don't seem to understand how Test cricket works. Maybe stick to darts?

The overconfidence and arrogance from India has been a big thing here.

The only time Indians come across as arrogant or overconfident is when the opposing team and its fans are defensive and boring :rabada2

Curse pujara all the way u want for intent .especially indians most of the time . Rohit , kohli may be flamboyant agressive when needed ...but when crunch situation arises where in a player has to stand ground for hoirs and sessions at tough times , its only Pujara , may it be any wicket , any attack !!

Which part of Pujara's body has NOT been hit in the last month :))

Continues to weather the blows.

Laxman Siva Rama Krishna with the cringeist joke of 2021 on commentary just now.

He must take the dazzling chromedome effect as a personal challenge.

Simply sensational batting by Pujara as well. Lol, some so-called Indian fans were cursing him for his slower strike rate.

I think there is a method to Pant's madness. He is cleverly choosing the bowler to target. While he is giving Bess the respect as the ball turns away from him, he is targeting Leach as the ball turns into him. Even for the fast bowlers he is ready to defend while cashing in on any bad deliveries. He isn't blindly attacking every bowler.

Pujara's strike rate has been quite healthy in this innings.

Who are these random English spinners we keep giving our wickets to. The guy himself looks shocked that he has 3 :rabada2

It hit the shoulder of the short leg fielder and went to midwicket...a little unlucky there.

Pathetic of us to gift this no name Bess 3 wickets.

England have got Pujara's wicket at right time, get Pant out and wrap India under 300.

I have been impressed by Bess today. He gets better with every match. Drifts out, spins in and gets bounce.

Poor Leach is having a torrid time against Pant, letting all the pressure off.

Indian team didn't get over the hang-over of Aus tour.
And the people who re-joined the team lack the intensity.
Result is there for all to see, so far. Hope the lower-order saves (again) from losing this. Winning is out of the question-either a draw/Eng win possible.

I guess Moeen is a better bowler

You should have agreed with the opinions of a few Indians here :yk

Leach has given away 36% of total runs India have scored in just 8 overs. Staggering stats:angelo

Kohli and Gill laughing as to how Sundar is hitting these boundaries.

Just checked his age and stats. He's 23 and played 12 matches already. Is he someone England have earmarked as one for the future and are gonna back for a while?

I remember thinking the Irish spinner George Dockrell was gonna be good. He moved to England when fairly young and then never heard of him after.

He will find the fielder soon and be dismissed; difference between Stokes and Pant's style is how risk free most of the former's boundary shots are.

Already outscored him :rabada2
Stokes played a stunning knock but lol at it being risk-free vs Pant.

Yeah, the selectors see something in him. English spinners usually don’t mature until their late twenties. But he bowls at Somerset CCC on their Bunsen so will get better.

Pant finally gets himself out. He has not hit India out of trouble though.

Well done Bessy.

Well, he has showed India can cruise at almost 4 per over even on the third day after losing half their side. Will come handy next time India bats and in next games.

Excellent performance by Dom, glad England stuck with him, hes got the character to succeed at this level
He is bowling on a third day subcontinental pitch with a mountain of runs to support. I would wait till he bowls on first and second day When Indian batsmen are firing on all cylinders.
Okeefe had great figures in Pune but then faded away in next test matches.

Ashwin must be cursing the batters..bowled 50 overs and had to come to bat after 4 hours of rest, all thanks to tamasha by Indian batsmen.

Yes may be, but with runs on the board you are under pressure to succeed, so far hes been exemplary.

England are about 50 runs short of a follow on question comes
With the way Indians scored and the memory of famous 2001 comeback, I doubt England would want to enforce follow-on. Because even 100 lead would be dangerous on fifth day subcontinental pitch. I believe they would play safe and like to bat again and burry Indians.

If England may have to make 100 runs then better make it on 4th day than on 5th. Depends when India get out also.

Yeah, gradually things are coming together for Root’s side, rebuilding the batting and its a decent spin option after the wobbly sides of 2016-19.

Either way its not safe in india

In 2008 india chased 390 odd in mere 4 sessions, sehwag singlehandedly took away that game in a session

Give the guy a chance, there's alot of cricket left in this match, he could yet guide England to victory in the second innings

Sure, Pant was close to being caught in a couple of those sixes. Leach has bowled Australia and SL out.

That was Sehwag who was a beast in India during his prime.Dont think anyone in the current team are at that level yet.

This team also doesn't have anyone anywhere close to Tendulkar.

I think India will get to chase 420 in 4th inning in around 110 overs.
