Footage of Mufti Azizur Rehman, a 70-year-old religious cleric and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s vice ameer in Lahore, sexually assualting one of his teenage seminary students went viral late Tuesday night.

In the harrowing visuals, which were secretly filmed by his ‘victim’, Mufti Aziz, who is sitting on the floor, can be seen asking the boy to sit on his lap after which he thrusts his body back and forth.

The video spread shockwaves on Pakistani Twitter as netizens not only called for immediate action to be taken against Rehman but a clear out of paedophiles in religious seminaries across the country.

A video message was also leaked with the footage by the teary-eyed victim, in which he claims that:”My attacker’s sons have threatened to kill me for exposing him [Mufti Aziz]”.

In distress, the victim shares that he is in hiding, addding that, “It is better I die” out of fear of retribution in the recording.

Meanwhile, Mufti Aziz, whose membership has been suspended by his party, also issued a video statement not only denying his role in the viral video but also claiming that “it is part of a conspiracy to smear his name”.

Mufti Aziz claimed that certain elements inside the seminary wanted to expel him, adding that,”This video is fake as you can’t even see me move in it".

"Where is my accuser? It has been two weeks since he was last seen...I was clearly drugged by this boy,” he goes on to detail in the video.

In a letter obtained by The Express Tribune, the Jamia Manzoorul Islamia has moved to terminate the services of the now maligned Mufti.

A termination notice issued by the administrator Jamia Asad ul Farooq reads: “A video was produced of you in which you are molesting a student. After consolation the Jamia administration based on the video advised him and his son to leave the campus.”

The religious seminary also announced that it would distance itself from any act or statement of the mufti.

The Punjab Police said that they had not received any complaint till the filing of this report.

A spokesperson said that they would proceed according to law when they received one.

A case has been registered against JUI cleric Mufti Aziz ur Rehman, his sons, and two other unidentified men after a video of the cleric sexually assaulting a student went viral on social media, it emerged Thursday.

Geo News reported that the case was registered on the student's complaint when police arrived at his local madrassa in Lahore after the video went viral on social media.

The student says Rehman, a former JUI leader, sexually abused him and then the cleric's sons started blackmailing and threatening to kill him.

"If justice is not done, I will commit suicide," the survivor said.

A day earlier, the superintendent of the madrassa where Rehman worked, said that the cleric had been fired.

Superintendent Asadullah Farooq said Rehman and his sons had been asked to leave the madrassa and the institution was not responsible for any of their acts.

Meanwhile, JUI Lahore's secretary-general also issued a notice stating that after the video, the party had suspended the membership of Mufti Rehman and that it would remain revoked till the investigation concludes.

Rehman, meanwhile, said the video was two-and-a-half years old, and that the student was being "used against" him.

"I declare on oath that I did not do such an act in my consciousness. I was given something intoxicating and I was not conscious," he claimed.

There is nothing shocking in the incident.Majority of maulvis or muftis have questionable character.Besides, the environment of madrassahs has made children vulnerable to theses beasts. On persecuting minorities to vilifying Malala to criticizing India, all these Mullahs will unite. However, when their own man been caught with his pants down,Maullahs have turned a blind eye.
At the same time, these incidents are also responsible for rising trend of Islamophobia. The West will not see what Islam teaches;it will see what Muslims do.If the West sees that an Islamic scholar and teacher has raped his student(he may have done this with many other students as well),this will inevitably lead to anti-Muslim feelings.

This is nothing new. It is a known that Pakistan religious schools are epicenters of child sex abuse. This mullah is renowned for his fiery speeches against minorities, Malala, Aurat March, immorality and vulgarism. Isn’t this blasphemy? Where are all the Mujahids who accuse every other person of blasphemy?

People in this country are more outraged over two adults proposing each other than clerics raping children in religious schools.

Standard Pakistani excuse when confronted with video evidence - this is a fake and a conspiracy.

Moreover,he is saying that he was given something intoxicating which made him do this act with the boy.Now my question is:if he was not in consciousness due the effects of drugs, why was not the boy doing the act(which the Mufti was doing with the boy) with the Mufti.

It's not surprising 90% of the molvis in Pakistan are of the same nature and sadly its coming to UK too now.

Thats quite the exagerration but yeah it is a prevalent issue.

Some people say that catholic church priests molesting kids was a consequence of the sexual repression that priests have to go through. Not an argument I buy completelt but you can understand the reasoning.

Mullahs who do this dont have the same excuse and are just beasts. I hope this guy gets dragged through the streets and beaten but its unlikely.

It's not an exaggeration, ask any kid if they were molested by their qari teachers and most of them would say yes but they were too young to understand it. In Pakistan, you can get away with such type of behaviour esp if you are a religious man but not in other western countries.

Hiding behind religious teaching is the perfect hiding place for these animals.

Rest assure, there will be a special place for these pedophiles in hell.

(If I were the ruler I'd hang them in public square and on the eve of the 7th day throw away their rotten corpses for night creatures to feed.)

As if there weren’t enough reasons to dislike mullahs, priests, popes, rabbis…

Lock him up forever. POS

The silence of Pakistanis in this thread is understandable.

Not that there are many actual Pakistanis on these forums, most are foreign based nationals, but why would it be understandable? Do you think Pakistanis would want their kids to be sent to religious schools to be molested?

Line them up in front of a firing squad.

Disgusting individual(s)

Thankfully sending our children to religious school remains a choice (one which I have abstained from)

What should be a noble profession has turned into many cases a hub of hypocrites and sexual abusers. A society that doesn't protect its children and animals will remain remain jahil.

We all know what, this guy just like others of his ilk will never pay for his sins. He will lay low for a year, then everything will be forgotten & the cycle will continue.

Seems to me that Pakistani society is so in awe of a supposed learned maulvis, that they almost fear to accuse them of any wrongdoing even when it's right in front of their face. Almost like it's blasphemy to accuse a man of God of such base behaviour. Rather than being held to a higher standard they end up being exempt from any standards at all.

If that is the criteria of the west , then what about incidents where Christians are involved? I mean we never see religion mentioned when a NON MUSLIM carries on such act , but when a Muslim is involved religion is mentioned?

Either the west has to treat both same way or prove that Islam encourages such things.

Either the west has to treat both same way or prove that Islam encourages such things.

The reason is that there are more madrassahs in Muslim countries than there are Christian seminaries in the West.Besides, due to economic constraints and excessive religiosity , people in Muslim countries are more likely to send their children to madrassahs than are people in the West. Whenever such incidents involving Mullahs happen, all Mullahs not only remain silent but also rigourously oppose steps to reform madrassahs.Similarly, these muftis claim to be scholars of Islam and Muslims generally hold them in high regard. If they commit any bad deed,it will tarnish the image of Islam.

Abuse is widespread and no part of society is left untouched by the abusers and although victims come from all spheres, the vast majority are the children and women of the poor.
I agree that the maulvis who should be the guys fighting and raising awareness of these horrific crimes are in many cases the worst abusers and because we put them on a pedestal as the paragons of virtue, we, as a society find the allegations too difficult to believe. Thus, the abuse continues unabated.

His statements are contradicting. Firstly he says the video is fake and then he says he was drugged and had no idea of what he was doing. Really sad and tragic this.

Pedophillia is rampant in madrasas throughout the sub-continent. In Bangladesh, 76 cases of child rape in madrasa have been reported in just four months in this year. Just imagine the real number as unreported rape incidents vastly outnumber the reported cases in Bangladesh. Hardly any Islamic scholar has spoken out regarding the rampant child abuse in madrasa throughout the country so i don't expect any sort of reforms happening in the near future. Unlike Pakistan though, Bangladesh has a leader who has the courage & will to take on the molvis & crush them. All the mullas involved with rapes got arrested as soon as the cases were lodged.

Thankfully sending our children to religious school remains a choice (one which I have abstained from)

Majority of the students of madrasas come from poor & backward section of the society which make them easy prey for the mullas.

This sin is not committed by a woman , so moulvis will keep mum on it and will diffuse it.

That is horrific, hopefully the guy is arrested and gets the strictest possible punishment. There also needs to support for the victims so they can recover both mentally and physically.

BTW it’s really disappointing to see people use tragedies like this to score political points and try to further their agenda. If you go through this thread, one would think these crimes only happen in Islamic schools.

Canada is one of the safest country in the world but just this week there were two case of teachers taking part in sexual abuse of Children. These are both from the last 10 days. None of these schools were Islamic or religious.

https://www.newmarkettoday.ca/police-beat/toronto-music-teacher-charged-with-sexual-assault-3885679

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/tdsb-teacher-child-pornography-toronto-police-1.6061862

Point is rapist exist in every society and profession. For some reason a few posters in this thread want to use this tragedy to paint a picture where only religious teachers are committing these crimes.

I seriously think only women should be teachers, while there abusive women and there have been cases of women in involved in CSA of their students it's not as common and I feel like the power dynamic is not the same as it is with a man. Ban all maulvis and replace them with women qarees.

Really find it hilarious when this neem mullah khtra e iman types pronounce Urdu/Arabic words in an Urdu context but with an (supposed) Arabic dialect (not correctly even since they tend to overdo the pronunciations). It may sound impressive to the average Desi Joe but it sounds really comical and dumb to us native Arabic speakers.

This Mullah was really going to town with his 3ain, ´3ain, 7aahs etcs to sound desperately authentic but just ended up looking like a fool.

This is a different topic but I don't see what the big deal is, it's the same in America - I've seen many white and black convert shaykhs put on an Arabic accent when pronouncing Arabic words, it's not their first language but they're making the effort. It's common for people to try to sound more "authentic" when they're speaking a foreign language, you might not notice but you probably do the same in German and English :salah

After proven guilty in a fair trial, I would over doze a wild donkey with the same intoxication, and lock him up with this scumbag for a couple of nights before putting him in front of a firing squad.

He is also apparently against Imran Khan too. Anyways, he needs to be locked up soon.

The maulana is clearly gay, but ashamed to accept it. At 70, he has clearly assaulted several young men all these decades.

This is the thing I don't understand...

As an Islamic country and as Muslims, surely the Maulvi's should be setting an even higher standard then a non maulvi teacher? They should be beyond reproach which means to become one they need to go through even more stringent checks then a normal teacher.

However, from an outsider it looks the other way round. Read the Quran, become. Hafeez, know Islam inside out and suddenly you're untouchable...

Am I wrong here?

Thank god I never had any kind of traumatic experience with the molvis bc I never had an interest in religion and I would never want my children to be anywhere near these monsters.

Imagine the quantity of children which have been molested over the time by the clergy (of all religions, all around the world).

He is a man with enough power and position to accuse someone of 'blasphemy' and destroy their lives.

I hope more victims come out and talk about it. Taboo must be broken.

Oh, and he is not 'gay'; he is a pedophile abuser, like Kevin Spacey and similar filth.

The video spread shockwaves on Pakistani Twitter as netizens not only called for immediate action to be taken against Rehman but a clear out of pedophiles in religious seminaries across the country. Many took to social media and expressed shock and anger over the leaked video, condemning the act. Rabia Butt and Meesha Shafi, too, shared their stance on the matter.

The Coke Studio singer took to Twitter and shared her disgust. "Allah humain aur humaray bachon ko mullah se bachaye (May God keep us and our children safe from mullah). Sexual abuse of children in madrassahs especially is vast in scale, if not more, as the history of sexual abuse in Catholic Churches. They had an eventual reckoning. Will we ever?" she shared, adding, " And so the boy in that sick video is now under attack and in hiding? See clearly and remember, it doesn’t matter if there’s evidence, a literal video, the defense and denial of the guilty party always on the same note. The aftermath for the victim is always fearful. Shame!"

"We are surrounded by morons," the Pehli Si Mohabbat star shared. "Defaming religion, defaming humanity by raping adults and minors in madrassahs, mosques, schools, colleges, offices... you name it. Measures like cutting rapists' private parts should be considered all over."

A video message was also leaked with the footage by the teary-eyed survivor, in which he claims that: ”My attacker’s sons have threatened to kill me for exposing him [Mufti Aziz]”. In distress, the survivor shares that he is in hiding, adding that, “It is better I die” out of fear of retribution in the recording.

LAHORE: Punjab police conducted raids Friday to arrest Mufti Aziz-ur-Rehman, after a video of the former JUI leader went viral in which he can purportedly be seen sexually assaulting a student.

Police raided a madressah in the city's Township area but Rehman was not there, as per a report on Geo News. Police said the suspect had escaped with his sons.

Speaking about the raid, police said they received information of the suspect frequently staying at the seminary.

They added that raids at different places were being carried out to arrest the suspect.

Police registered a case against Rehman, his sons, and two other unidentified men on Thursday after a video of the cleric, who appears to be sexually assaulting a student, provoked outrage on social media.

Geo News reported that the case was registered on the student's complaint when police arrived at the madressah after the video went viral.

The student said Rehman had "sexually abused" him and then the cleric's sons started "blackmailing and threatening to kill" him.

"If justice is not done, I will commit suicide," the student had warned.

A day earlier, the superintendent of the madressah said the cleric had been fired.

Superintendent Asadullah Farooq said Rehman and his sons had been asked to leave the madressah and the institution was not responsible for any of their acts.

Rehman, meanwhile, responded to the controversy, claiming that the video was two-and-a-half years to three years old, and that the student was being "used against" him.

"I declare under oath that I did not do such an act in my senses. I was drugged and not in my senses," he claimed.

Social media is bringing these vile creatures to justice. You can see even with video evidence this maula has denied culpability, and now appears to be on the run along with his sons. The good thing is that celebrities are blasting this clown on twitter and the message is getting out that being a cleric doesn't mean you are immune to justice.

I am against mob justice, but islamically surely this maulvi should be stoned to death. This would certainly send a warning shot to other teachers in his position about the consequences of abusing their position.

This mullah accused Saba Qamar of blasphemy and now karma has come to bite him!

If that is the criteria of the west , then what about incidents where Christians are involved? I mean we never see religion mentioned when a NON MUSLIM carries on such act , but when a Muslim is involved religion is mentioned?

Either the west has to treat both same way or prove that Islam encourages such things.

Are you kidding? People have been talking about pederast priests for decades, especially Catholic ones. It is also the case that plenty vehemently anti-gay people who justify it with a Christian worldview have been shown to partake in gay activity. Stop playing the victim all the time.

It doesnt matter which religion it is but when children are left with men(and a few women) on their own they are vulnerable to abuse. These children are not only at the mercy of these lecherous haraamis, they are vulnerable to abuse from older kids and even kids their own age. And research has shown children that are abused end up in many cases becoming abusers themselves, hence the vicious cycle never ends.

This is the thing I don't understand...

As I stated in my previous threads.
One of the biggest problems in our country. Munafiqat - Hypocrisy.

Yes there are good peoples too (very few), but these wolves in the skin of a sheep are everywhere and at every level.

The scumbags in the name of religious leaders are at the top level, and their effects of munafiqat and corruption trickles down to the general public.

You see a flood of people flock towards masjids on Friday. And among these masses there are haram khores, rishwat khores, liars, dishonest, cheaters, wife beaters, etc. Many of them have beards, and their shalwars lifted up over the ankles. They are general part of the public and not religious mullah but they do what they see at the top level.

But when they get back to their work places after praying Jumma, many of them continue with this vicious cycle of dishonesty, hypocrisy and corruption.

Are you kidding? People have been talking about pederast priests for decades, especially Catholic ones. It is also the case that plenty vehemently anti-gay people who justify it with a Christian worldview have been shown to partake in gay activity. Stop playing the victim all the time.

How many times have you heard on the news or read in news papers that a Christian Man has committed certain crime , and how many times the term Muslim is used ?

The maulana is clearly gay, but ashamed to accept it. At 70, he has clearly assaulted several young men all these decades.

If he has committed one crime , you know that he must have committed thousands more , that means your logic is that anyone who is convicted of one crime should be sentenced to death , because all his life he must have been a criminal .

This is the thing I don't understand...

Islamic country is one which is ruled by Quran and Shariah , not by whims and desires of Muslims. Pakistan is a Muslim majority country.

There should be strong govt controls and thorough recruitment and induction process for the appointment of maulvis in masjid. Most of the maulvis dont have any credibility /proper islamic training. They can only recite Quran in arabic and dont even understand what it means. You cant leave your children alone woth such people

Not true the thousands of people molested by catholic priests will like to differ. Corrupt people are attracted to positions of power and then they abuse it. Maulvi's in our society are mostly untouchable as we don't have system of justice for the poor so a large percentage being bad compared to the general public is not shocking.

Previous governments took money and bribes to induct hardened criminals as police, uneducated as teachers you expect maulvis would have been better.

Training and induction programmes cost money. We are talking about making teaching a profession when going down this route, so I guess if clerics were paid professionals, you could introduce such measures and demand higher standards.

No , a crime is a crime , whether I do or you do or a Priest does or a Muslim cleric does.

My point is that why we have to highlight the religion only when he is a Muslim? These kinds of things are done by all kinds of people from all strata of society.

If you are saying Pakistan religious schools are epicentres of such things then what about other places where such things are done , for example if such a case surfaces in a Church , should we stop all church activities ? If we find women being raped as devdasis in temples , so that also should be banned ? How many places should we banned? Is that a solution ?

Brother you are saying he is in position of strength , I agree with that.
But in society we have many such situations and people take advantage , NO one says that a Hindu man was caught doing that , or a Christian man was caught , when you are catching a Muslim , media highlighting the religion.

My objection is on the way Islam is always projected, which is wrong. You can only project Islam if you can show that Islam is encouraging that. Many Muslims have alcohol , but Islam does not encourage that.

Acts of criminals are NOT based on any religion , it is there own individual acts.

This is funny. You have no objection when the media/people proudly identify Amir Khan, London major Sadiq Khan, Mohammad Saleh and other prominent figures as Muslims. You only have a problem when a criminal is identified as being a Muslim. You cannot have it both ways.

If you really believe that we should not identify such monsters as Muslims, then you also need to stop doing a trance whenever a Muslim is in the news for good reasons. I have seen a trend that whenever Pakistani Muslims are in the news for bad reasons i.e. grooming gangs, Pakistanis disown them and say they are British. However, when it comes to Nergis Mavlala or other good people like her, Pakistanis proudly proclaim are Pakistanis.

Secondly, because Aziz Ur Rehman belongs to a religious background who likes to carry his religion on his sleeve, it is absolutely necessary to highlight his religion and expose his hypocrisy and false piety.

Agree and especially because he has been a religious figure and doing it all in a context of a religious setting. This is putting a bad name on the religion itself and this Tharkii Molvia should be penalised according to the Islamic Sharia Law.

LAHORE: Mufti Aziz ur Rehman, the cleric who sexually abused a madrassa student, has confessed to his crime during interrogation, police revealed Monday.

Aziz will likely be presented before the court today, police said, adding that he confessed that the viral video featured him and it was stealthily filmed by his student, Sabir Shah.

The cleric also confessed that he had lured the student with passing marks in the exam and had later sexually abused him. He also said that once the video went viral, he got scared of the repercussions.

Aziz also told the police that his sons had threatened Sabir and told him not to speak to anyone about it. However, despite the threats, Sabir went ahead and posted the video online, the police said.

The cleric also said that he issued a video statement because he did not want to leave the madrassah, adding that once the video went viral, the administration of the madrassah urged him to leave his job.

When they address a criminal as a Muslim it shows Muslims in a negative light. A criminal is a criminal irrespective of his religion , nationality , education etc.

He belongs to a certain religion , what does that mean ? Is the religion encouraging him to do those acts ?

Every criminal has a background and every crime has a setting, its not unique to this case.

How many times have you heard on the news or read in news papers that a Christian Man has committed certain crime , and how many times the term Muslim is used ?

You were talking about the context of pederast religious figures.

Regardless, it's incorrect to think of the average white Brit, for example, as Christian. Many barely consider themselves as such. When Muslims are generally referred to as such, it is due to some sort of terrorist or terrorist-adjacent activity. When there are white nationalist attacks, they are referred to as white nationalists. Are you against that, too?

Read my post. Religion is being mentioned because the culprit is a preacher of the religion. If you do not want any negative light, the best way would be for Muslims to stop engaging in negative/criminal behavior. Till then, we will continue to see such news.

Bro, i am a Pakistani muslim myself and do agree with your basic point abt the hidden agenda of Western media in maligning Islam, so ‘you dont need to preach the converted’….However in this particular case, the context and the setting raises valid questions about child exploitation in these Madarsa establishments is a real issue in our country. Majority of these Molvis are uneducated and corrupt individuals who are just exploiting young innocent children. They need to get some harsh penalties to set an example.

Wafaq-Ul-Madaris bans cellphones in madrassas : reports

There we go! Our religious school association is encouraging sex abuse.

There are approximately 1.8 billion Muslims in the world. I don't think its possible for there to be no Muslim criminals. The bolded part is the perfect example of "bigotry of high expectations".

BTW there are also many cases of kids being abused in secular public schools, would it be fair to blame all teachers or all schools for that?

What that guy did is vile and he deserves the worst punishment possible but why is everyone pretending this only happens in religious schools?

Instead of using this tragedy to score points, best thing would be to focus on stopping kids from being exploited in schools where those schools be religious or not.

More damning about this case is the lack of condemnation from all political & religious leaders. Normally IK & others are quick to react to even a single Muslim getting beaten in India, but now their silence is damning. This coupled with his latest comments on rape shows how he is increasingly becoming one of those uneducated hardliners themselves.

I don't think IK comments on every misdemeanour committed by an individual in India, usually it will be collective repression of minorities which is enabled by a compliant state apparatus, so this comparison is misleading.

Religious leaders, I agree should have been far more vocal as this case is directly parallel to their organisations.
