What's new

A sincere question to Indians, what did your government achieve from "Operation Sindoor"?

That's a pretty naive question - FATF is a tool. If India genuinely believes that Pakistan finances terrorists (and I assume we do) and assists in money laundering, we have every reason to lobby to have that recognized and have Pakistan placed on the gray list. From reading a few blogs, I doubt it. Pakistan is currently in America's good books for having captured Mohammed Sharifullah and handing him over. After Trump publicly thanked Pakistan for co-operating on terrorism, it wouldn't be a good look for the US to vote on declaring it on the graylist. As I said, India will need both evidence and solid lobbying if it wants to get this done.

Well you've basically agreed with me. India wants to lobby to get Pakistan put on the FATF list, but the US doesn't think the evidence stacks up/has other priorities which supercede Indian objectives.

China reasserts India border claims with fresh list of ‘standard’ place names

China has reasserted its territorial claims near its contested border with India by releasing “standard” names for dozens of places in the region – most of them in Indian-controlled territory.
Despite recent efforts to improve diplomatic ties with its Southeast Asian neighbour, the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs published its latest names for places in Arunachal Pradesh, which China calls Zangnan and says is part of the Tibetan autonomous region.
The renaming of 27 places covered an array of geographical features: 15 mountains, five residential areas, four mountain passes, two rivers and one lake.

After India and Pakistan trade blows over Kashmir, will their ceasefire hold?
Each location was assigned a name in Chinese characters, Tibetan, and pinyin – the romanised spelling of Mandarin Chinese – and accompanied by detailed latitude and longitude coordinates, and a high-resolution map.

“In accordance with the relevant provisions of the State Council on the management of geographical names, we in conjunction with the relevant departments have standardised some of the geographical names in Zangnan of China,” the ministry said.

On Wednesday, India dismissed China’s move as “vain and preposterous”.

“Creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.

Beijing’s move comes despite efforts in the past year to improve relations between the two countries after a long period of tension.

A deadly military clash in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh in 2020 sent relations into a tailspin. Twenty Indian soldiers and four Chinese personnel were killed in the encounter, marking the start of a military stand-off at the border. The following year, another border skirmish in Sikkim state left troops on both sides wounded.
However, late last year China and India agreed to end their military border stand-off.

Since then, senior diplomats from both sides have engaged in regular discussions, including a meeting in January where Chinese and Indian officials committed to resetting their bilateral relationship.

As part of that process, China and India agreed earlier this year to ease visa processes and resume direct flights – although no firm timeline has been set for restarting those routes. India also announced that Beijing had agreed to reopen Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, sacred sites for Indian pilgrims, after a five-year suspension.

China’s latest move to rename numerous locations in Arunachal Pradesh may cast a shadow over these diplomatic efforts.
Most of the places on the list are on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control, an informal boundary between Chinese and Indian-controlled territory. It is loosely based on the McMahon Line, which was drawn during British colonial rule, but each side has different views of where that line runs.

Beijing claims some areas south of that line as part of its own territory, calling it South Tibet. India refers to those areas as Arunachal Pradesh.

This is the fifth time China has renamed places within Arunachal Pradesh.

Starting in 2017, Beijing issued a series of lists – initially six locations, then 15 in 2021, 11 in 2023, and most recently 30 in March 2024 – most of which fall within areas controlled by India.

In April last year, after the list was released, New Delhi’s Ministry of External Affairs rejected Beijing’s “senseless attempt” at “inventing” names and “altering reality”.
“If today I change the name of your house, will it become mine? Arunachal Pradesh was, is and will always be a state of India. Changing names does not have an effect,” Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told Indian media at the time.

Indian media also reported last June that the Indian Army’s information warfare division had started to rename 30 places in China’s Tibet region in retaliation for the Chinese list, but no list was made public and no additional moves ensued.

@sweep_shot you in particular will be interested in this as you have rightly proclaimed Arunachal Pradesh should be part of China

Bob Blackman is not exactly a neutral observer if you look at his background.

He'll twerk for whoever pays him. Not long ago he was in the pocket of the Azerbaijani lobby.

Hindus outnumber Muslims by 2:1 in Harrow East so bit of constituency politics at play too.

Well you've basically agreed with me. India wants to lobby to get Pakistan put on the FATF list, but the US doesn't think the evidence stacks up/has other priorities which supercede Indian objectives.
I wasn't aware we were disagreeing on that. I was just explaining to you that the FATF is still a very powerful tool that can affect countries badly if they get put on the gray/blacklist. India's unlikely to get success immediately given the context today but if we're able to gather evidence, it's the right tool to use. Pakistan's only a couple of years off the list and it's always easier to paint a military dictatorship as a terrorist enabler.

It'll require high quality investigative work. Obviously organisations like the Jaish and Lashkar are active in Pakistan (whether they're directly connected to Pahalgam or not). If we can trace out their funding and finance arrangements, that's powerful proof and can perhaps be used a spur graylisting.

I know of some people that asked
him to message to make these statements outside of Parliament to see if he is comfortable making these slanderous allegations without parliamentary privilege that protects him from legal action.

I don't usually watch these people lobbied to make statements in Parliament because pay enough money, you can get anyone to say just about anything. No one really takes it seriously other than the parties who are sponsoring it. You could probably get George Galloway to say the exact opposite in the same sitting.

I find it amusing that people who loves to take validation from international media is choosing to ignore what British MP is saying just because it doesnt suit the propaganda.

Because we know this particular MP... his aims and objectives and the fact the he represents the "little Gujrat" UK constituency.

Well yes, but of course there is a lot of ifs and buts in there. By that token if Pakistan can trace funding and finance arrangements of Baloch terror groups, then they can lobby for grey listing of India. Even then that wouldn't prove they were behind individual acts of terror, that would still need to be proven separately.

I explained quite clearly why this MP was not a neutral voice as did others. I also explained that validation from international media is not the purpose, it is to get a somwhat non-aligned view. I didn't even differentiate between India or Pakistan propaganda, but if you are determined not to take any notice then not much I can do. Keep living the hindutva dream.

The FATF doesn't care about proving linkages to actual acts of terror. All India/Pakistan have to show is usage of banking channels by proscribed terrorist groups or money laundering activities. The good thing (for India at least) is that it starts with a couple of advantages

1. India is actually a member of the FATF. Pakistan is not. Which means it's much harder for Pakistan to lobby for India's inclusion. It has to work through someone like China

2. Traditionally, it's much harder to trace actual funding to the terrorist groups overseas whether Pakistan to JeM/LT in India or India to the BLA. India starts with the advantage that these groups openly operate in Pakistan and all India has to prove is that they have some banking facilities in the country. That would show a failure of the banking system and could lead to Pakistan being placed on the gray list. Whether India can actually do this today since a lot of funding could've moved outside traditional banking channels after the previous instance of gray listing, I don't know, but that's what it would take.

My question is, why media houses like CNN or rabid islamist propaganda pieces like Al Jazeera are trust worthy and a statement from British MP isnt?

Its quiet aparent that this MP is talking about things you dnt want to hear.

Y’all still believe Rafales are untouchable and F16s were downed in 2019, despite Lockheed Martin themselves saying otherwise.

To you, everyone is untrustworthy, except Indian media echoing your own fantasies.

That’s the point people here keep highlighting, it doesn’t matter who says it or how well it’s documented, you reject facts and cling to fairy tales. And then proudly show up with, “look look, I found another article!”

Lol.

Well I think I already agreed that FATF was set up for legislative purposes of certain nations above others. I was only responding to a hindutva poster @uppercut who was using them to validate the Indian position. Not much disagreement from me on the workings of it so no problem.

Australia is Not international enough for you, is it?

Can you name any of those "Australian" journalists or presenters from that channel? I didn't see any, just some voiceover commentary...which could have been Romali_rotti's sister for all I know.

The NYT article is behind a paywall, can't see anything I'm afraid.

This is the most accurate reflection of events. While India lost aircraft, India's targeting of PAK facilities was much more effective - limited but effective and precise.

This is exactly what I've mentioned on other threads as well .

No damage to S400 as @The Bald Eagle thinks.

This is a serious Indian journalist approved by Modi.

And they expect the world to take them seriously. It’s unfortunate most of the world sees Pakistanis and Indians as the same people. We just get a bad rep because we are associated with India.

I can name many but what has that got to do with anything I said. The narrative here peddled for past few days is, we must not trust Ind and Pak media and rely on international media to get accurate information. Sky news in Australia or Fox news in USA are also international news right? Or arr we saying we must only trust NYT, BBC and Jal jeera because they suit some narrative.

It's a bit rich coming from someone who left India for the UK, is now vacationing in India, and suddenly feeling overly patriotic. If you are so committed, the first step should be to renounce your UK citizenship and settle here before preaching to others. :kp

Imran Khan had the option to live a comfortable life in England, but he chose to stay in his country and is now literally fighting for his life there. :inti

The “narrative” has turned decisively. The Islamabad Times (also known as New York Times) says today
• Damage mostly inflicted by India on Pakistan
• Clear evidence of damage by India to Pakistan
• No clear evidence of damage by Pak
• Imagery does not validate Pak claims

India got so many underserving lands from 1947.

Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh should have gone to China.
IOK should've gone to Pakistan.
West Bengal and northeast India should've gone to Bangladesh.
Khalistan should've been an independent country.
Tamil Nadu should've gone to Sri Lanka.
India could've kept the rest I guess.

India delivered a deterrence message. It's upto the neighbouring establishment to interpret and execute its policies accordingly. If any such attack happens in India again from Pakistan based groups, magnitude of the response will get bigger even on the first strike. Pakistani Civilian shouldn't visit mosques operated by these designated terrorists and not live in their vicinity. If missiles lose a little bit of precision, innocent civilians may suffer because of these terrorists.

By the way, the New york times coming to senses with its reporting.

If it wasn't the generosity of India, entire Bangladesh would have been Indian state Bengal 🤣. I mean which country fights for another one's freedom. They simply annexe it.

On the downside we would have additional Muslim population which could have been an issue in long run but we wouldn't have been facing Bangladeshi infestation in every city of India.

India attacked to deter and it was quite successful. While you may believe the fake DGISPR narrative but don't worry your rulers are not that low IQ either. They can manage the public narrative and making people believe they got the victory. But they did get the message. It did impose a cost on the defacto rulers of Pakistan. They will be more calculated wirh their next move.

You are confused. If a million soldiers in Kashmir cannot stop a terrorist attack it means you are incompetent and it will happen again. The region will be in constant war, the border and Kashmir will be a hotspot, investors will see India as a risk etc.

Try to send in missiles in the night on civilians again and see what happens.

It’s India that locked down its media whilst the DGISPR just updated the public.

You’ve got the two countries mixed up 😄.

And now China is renaming Arunachal Pradesh....certainly the purported fear factor of new weapons has wiped out in thin air

As far as I am concerned, Arunachal Pradesh is occupied by India. It is really a Chinese territory. I guess that's why China is starting to name many places within Arunachal Pradesh. Maybe China will annex it at some point. :inti

India should voluntarily give Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh to China in my opinion. :inti

Your supposedly victorious army can't stop terrorist attack that happen almost every day in Pakistan. United States with all its might couldn't stop 9/11. Indian army foils plans of most of these terrorists and out of hundreds of planned attacks they succeed once. **** happens and you shouldn't be cheerful at that happening.

That's India's headache to deal with economy and we are certainly doing better with elected leaders instead of selected leaders of Pakistan

If these terrorist attack happen again, india will send missiles again with bigger payloads. I can guarantee you that. India doesn't send missiles out of the blue without any reason. If a war be imposed on India by these proxies, then India will fight the war like any self respecting nation and give appropriate response.

Also Masood Azhar, is not a civillian but a UN declared terrorist. His family should have disowned him. It was because of him, his family members got killed. You can call them civilians, I will not. Civilians must have died in cross border firing on Pakistani sides too and for them big condolences. That's the price of war that's paid by both nations.

And Pakistanis talking about media freedom in India is a big joke. Your Twitter was just unbanned for propaganda by DGISPR last week. Even taking name of Imran Khan on TV was banned and journalists were referring to him as Kasim ke Abba 🤣🤣

Don't worry, another miscalculated skirmish by Modi (day is not far) and he will be begging China for asylum.

The truth is India never lose territory/land, India just give it away. 😂😎

China explicitly called Arunachal Pradesh a Chinese territory. They didn't call it disputed or anything.

Knowing how stupid Modi is, he may attack China and get his butt kicked again.

I fully expect China to annex Arunachal Pradesh at some point. Not a matter of if but when.:dav

Still confused. You can’t have occupation and peace at the same time. Force and peace don’t go hand in hand tough guy. You’re doomed just like Israel, you will not outlive this attitude.

You are judging everything that happens in Kashmir as a provocation and everyone in Pakistan a terrorist by declaring war on them. You think the issues in Kashmir are going to disappear with your missiles? You lack vision.

God forbid one lands on your own head.

Very funny...

Tamil Nadu is double the size of Sri Lanka by area and has a population of 4 times that of Sri Lanka.

Even if Tamil Nadu wants to join Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka will say NO, as that will make the Sinhalese/Buddhists a minority.

Mate, I've got no skin in this fight between India and Pakistan but, as an Australian, I can tell you Sky News Australia is viewed pretty much as satire channel over here in Australia. It's pretty much a fringe news outlet that nobody with a single functioning braincell watches or takes it seriously. They will literally say anything for views/clicks.

Infact, if they say one thing, usually, the opposite is true.

I don't even watch it but that should have been pretty much obvious by anyone who viewed the clips which @Rajdeep posted here. At least do some research before posting something which you think being loosely associated with Sky and Australia gives it some legitimacy. Ironic since he was trying to call out others quoting (genuine) western media sources.
