AB de Villiers becomes the fastest to 9000 ODI runs

The_Odd_One

ODI Debutant
Joined
Dec 27, 2015
Runs
8,950
Did it in 205 innings and broke the record of Ganguly who did it in 228 innings.

Hit 24 100s, only Tendulkar has scored one more (25) by the time he reached 9k runs mark.

What a legend, right up there with the very best in ODIs.

What is even more mind blowing is that he faced just 9005 balls to score 9000 runs!

ODI ATG. Arguably the GOAT.

AB > Kohli in ODIs for sure.

Kohli can play clutch innings but nobody touches ABD in consistency. He just doesn't stop scoring in ODIs. His average would be above 60 if he wasn't an average batter pre-2009

He is the best. Certainly the best since King Viv and in a different league to the false king, Virat Kohli.

9000 runs in 9005 balls is simply ridiculous. With AB, you don't need anything other than stats to know that he is easily one of the top three ODI batsmen of all time. Despite this, some of the innings he has played have been instant classics, including some that were played at the World Cup.

Congrats to him..

The best part of him is that even if he plays normally, he still scores at a very fast rate.

He can score on difficult tracks and can score quick runs when needed too.

Today he played with lot of characters on a tough situation.....was playing with ease literally and truely diff class altogether

bw 9K runs with an avg of 54 and 100 strike rate....numbers like this are unimaginable before he entered in the cricket field

Every single post of yours embarrasses your fellow Pakistani supporters. Seriously cut it out.

is an ODI ATG for sure. Most naturally talented batsman of his generation.

A few years ago: "Yeah, ABDV is great, but he bats down the order. This jacks up his average."

Today: "Yeah, ABDV comes in down the order, and he still manages to make more runs and a better pace than all the previous ODI record holders, who were top order batsmen, but he never influences the outcome of the game."

Tomorrow: "Yeah, ABDV is the first cricketer to play cybernetic critic in zero gravity moon conditions, but white players get all the NASA subsidies."

Great achievement.

Along with Kohli, Dhoni and Starc, he is the ODI ATG of this era.

Hahaha this.

There's naturally a bit of too much resistance and even mud slinging by certain quarters when someone has a legit claim of being THE best batsman in a certain format.

He is arguably the GOAT. His competition in my opinion is Viv. I still think Ponting is a bit ahead but that's because of my obvious nostalgic bias...same for those who rate Tendulkar, they'd have bias and personal preference.

AND it's not easy to compare across eras too.

Congrats. He is not my cup of tea, but there is no doubt that he is one of the most unique and entertaining cricketers in history.

Why if I may ask? He's an exciting batsman, isn't he. U should start enjoying his batting :amla

I think he lacks a bit of character, and the way he continues to bat down the order in spite of being the best batsman does not help SA, and is a major reason why they have failed to win most of the big matches in spite of his brilliant stats.

He doesn't have the nerve of Dhoni to be a quality finisher and he doesn't have the temperament of Kohli to be a great chaser, but he is an extremely explosive player and SA will be better off if he bats in the top-order. He can dominate attacks upfront and put his team in a match-winning position, rather than come down the order when SA are already struggling.

He is easily one of the most talented cricketers to have played in 150 years of cricket, but he could have done much more with his talent for his team but at the end of the day, this is a game of character more than anything, which is some thing he quite clearly lacks.

That 60 in his last KO match was pretty epic. He's not responsible for the bowlers choking.

Yes but he was responsible for missing a simple run-out that could have changed the complexion of the game. He is not a serial choker like Amla but he lacks composure, which is why he often throws it away after putting SA in a match-winning position.

This is about his batting. He played a clutch innings in that World Cup semi-final and that one innings is better than whatever Kohli has done in his two WCs until now.

He's not a gurantee to chase down any total below 400 on a flat pitch, against mediocre bowlers like Kohli and Dhoni. However, he's better in every other aspect and is the greatest ODI batsman of this generation, by far.

He is only a better hitter than Kohli, he is inferior in other aspects. Dhoni skill-wise is much below de Villiers and Kohli, but he is extremely strong mentally.

If I could pick one batsman for my ODI team from this generation, it has to be Kohli. No other top-order batsman can construct and anchor an innings and then finish it off as well.

How many matches has Kohli won outside India? Seriously what's the fuss about?
AB just played a clutch winning knock in a country Kohli hasn't won a single match in 5 attempts.
His match winning credentials are non existent in SA, ENG and Australia too.
There's cricket outside India unfortunately.
Then there's ICC events everyone likes to rave about, again Kohli has been found wanting.
So what's the fuss about? I wouldn't even have Kohli above Gibbs let alone AB when it comes to ODI's.
