Australia batsman Adam Voges has announced his retirement from international cricket, bowing out with the second highest Test average of all time behind the great Don Bradman.

The 37-year-old will lead the Prime Minister's XI against Sri Lanka in Canberra tomorrow and has confirmed it will be his last match against an international team.

"This will be it for me," he said. "I'm certainly looking forward to getting out there and playing this game. I've had an amazing couple of years with Australia, with the Test team, and I've loved every minute of it.
"I see this as a last opportunity to play against an international team and I'm certainly looking forward to that."

Voges became the oldest Test debut centurion when he scored an unbeaten 130 against West Indies two years ago aged 35.

He struggled during the 2015 Ashes, only twice passing 50, but retained his place in the Australian middle order and went on to enjoy an incredible 2015/16 winter, which saw him score an unbeaten 269 against West Indies in Hobart, before notching another double-hundred against New Zealand in Wellington.

His batting average after that tour of New Zealand stood at 95.50 after 15 Tests, before falling significantly after lean series against Sri Lanka away and South Africa at home.

He has not played a Test match since suffering concussion when he was struck on the head by a bouncer while batting for Western Australia in November, and retires having not scored a half-century in his final 10 Test innings.

Nonetheless, his final Test average of 61.87 places him second on the all-time list (of those who have played a minimum of 20 innings), behind only Bradman and above Graeme Pollock, George Headley and Herbert Sutcliffe.

Voges' Australia team-mate Steven Smith leads the way among current Test batsmen, with an average of 60.15, ahead of Younis Khan (53.06), new England captain Joe Root (52.80) and Virat Kohli (51.75).

Middlesex last month confirmed Voges had signed as an overseas player for this season, which will be his fourth stint with the club.

Thats one way to enter your name in the record books.

I wish he retired with his average in the 90s. Then we could point to him as the definitive example of: "see, stats don't mean everything".

Saud Shaqeel is averaging 63 currently in test cricket.

Only Brahman has a higher batting average than him.

Saud bhai has test batting average of 69.25 as we speak.

He’s left Adam Voges behind.

Adam Voges appointed as Assistant Coach of Trent Rockets Men

Former Nottinghamshire batter Adam Voges has been appointed to the coaching staff of Trent Rockets Men.

Australian Voges, 46, spent five summers at Trent Bridge as a player, scoring over 5,000 runs in all formats, and will now return as assistant to new Head Coach, Peter Moores.

He has built a sparkling leadership CV in seven seasons as head coach of Western Australia, winning three consecutive Sheffield Shield championships and four One Day Cup titles.

The first of those Shield wins, in 2022, was WA’s first in 23 years, and came in the same season in which Voges also led the state to the first of three back-to-back One Day Cup triumphs.

Additionally, he has twice led Perth Scorchers to the Big Bash title, having taken on the franchise side’s top job in conjunction with his appointment as WA coach in 2018.

*Adam Voges said:* “I’m thrilled to be returning to Trent Bridge to take up my first coaching role in The Hundred, which is a great competition,” said Voges.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time with Western Australia, and it was an honour to lead my home state, especially with the success we had, but the potential for a new experience is exciting.”

“The Hundred is obviously seeing a real boost with the new investment that’s going in ahead of next year, and it feels like a great time to be joining,” continued Voges.

“I’ve got a huge amount of respect for Peter Moores, and I can’t wait to get over to England and work alongside him to put the Rockets in the best spot for success.”

*Trent Rockets Director of Cricket, Mick Newell, added:* “We’re really pleased to add Adam to our men’s coaching staff.

“His experience and the success he’s had so far, especially with Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash, speak for themselves, and his existing relationship with Trent Bridge means he can hit the ground running.

“He’s a marvellous addition to our team, and we can’t wait to welcome him back to Nottingham as we head towards our new era.”
