What's new

Afghanistan (325/7) defeat England (317) by 8 runs in a thriller to keep their hunt for semi-finals spot alive in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Afghans lack fast bowlers

Can’t win with just spin

Never can

You need fast bowlers who can bowl 135 to 145 with bounce and ability to move the ball off the seam
And also hit consistent lengths outside off

Sadly afghans don’t have the ability to produce fast bowlers.

They have good hitters though

Hope Butler gets a century and takes England over the line. Then the England SA game will be a cracker then. Butler deserves a 100 here- one of my fave players Jos bhai ! 🙂
Supporting Afghan bros. England came here for vacation, these Afghan boys will fight till the end.

Yeah the 3 team idea Pak, BD, Afghanistan can make that team very strong. Power hitters, fast bowlers, spinners, all bases covered.

We need a moment of brilliance now to get back in the game, something like a clean bowled or a great catch or something

Gotta give credit to @topspin . He's the biggest advocator for YK. Afghanistan's batting massively improved under YK.
Didn't YK just come in for the CT? Afghanistan has been a far improved team for a few years now. I give more credit to their head coach Johnathon Trott, who's worked very hard with them for a while now, never giving up on them. More than that, it's just the mindset and the hunger to improve these boys have. I love some YK, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that Afg batting MASSIVELY improved UNDER younis

Nasser Hussain keeps saying Root is England's best batsman against spin, he's scoring at a run-a-ball on a batting-friendly track. Let's see how he ends up. He should win this for England since he has already played many balls.

Time for Overton and Livingstone to step up and be therr with Root. No need for harakiri. Still very gettable for England. A potential England NZ claah in SF will be exciting

Wickets have also fallen in crucial stages. Root is just fine he doesn't need to be rash. Keep the innings ticking. If he got out making 70 off 50, they could have lost already with none of these other batters staying for long

This ZindaPathar only has the ability to smash Pakistani bowlers. He fails against everyone else.

This is Joe Root's highest ODI score since June 14, 2019, during the World Cup group stages—a statistic that reflects several aspects of English cricket since then. Test players have moved in and out of the white-ball setup, and when they have featured, their performances haven’t been outstanding.

90 to win from last 10 overs

6 wicket down

I say 70-30 in our favour this game. Let’s get Joe out asap

Come on
🇦🇫

Afghanistan has started playing like how Pakistan used to play---mostly unprofessional but on their day can destroy any opposition.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has started to play like how Afghanistan used to play---mostly rubbish and largely one-dimensional.
I would say Pakistan is playing like Bangladesh, Afghanistan in such short period of time has improved drastically.

Afghanistan left BD in the dust. Was watching Salman Butt interview yesterday he was shocked Mushy Riyad still playing for BD. Butt was also playing with them like decade ago lol.

Yeah. For sure.

Afghanistan are a level above BD in white ball cricket currently.

They have gun batters and gun spinners. But, I think BD pacers are better. Overall, Afghans are better clearly.

Agreed, Root did his job, but the other batsmen failed to support him.
