Afghanistan to host Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series in November 2024

Said this earlier. SL are the better ODI side with higher upside. They have a core group of young batters who are churning out the numbers

Windies too are building a core with Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Keacy Carty and Rutherford.

AFG have Gurbaz, Zadran, Omarzai with Atal etc. showing promise

BD is going to fall behind them in due time.

SL lost back to back ODI series to Bangladesh (last 2 series). They also lost to BD in 2023 ODI WC.

I think BD is okay in ODI format. Losing one game to Afghanistan in sluggish Sharjah can happen to any team; even South Africa lost to Afghans a few weeks ago.

Anyway, BD need to find some replacements. No doubt.

LOL. You can just enjoy the game. Why only watch BD cricket? You should diversify.

I personally support Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Canada outside of BD.

As a pure cricket fan, I really enjoy Aussie cricket (since 2000).
I watch other crickets as well but due to BD being my mother country it affects me more.

South Africa lost an ODI series to Afghanistan a few weeks ago (in Sharjah).

Sharjah suits Afghan spinners. I think they can beat most Test teams in Sharjah if it is ODI or T20.

Anyway, hopefully BD will put up a better show in the remaining 2 games.

BD are ranked 9th now. And like I said, unlike for WI and SL, I don't see the batters coming through

Terrible performance from BD after the Pak series they have been absolutely dismissal.

Bangladesh dropped Mushfiqur and Rishad for the game.

Nasum is playing instead of Rishad.

BD - 169/3 (37.4 overs).

They need to reach 230-250. That should be competitive on this sluggish Sharjah pitch.

BD - 235/7 (48.3 overs).

This is a good score on this sluggish Sharjah pitch. I think BD have enough runs on the board.

Yes, Bangladesh is not a bad ODI side as some people are suggesting. Infact their recent performances against AFG ,SRL is good too. It will as expected will create a vacuum in their batting line up as Tamim,Shakib, Mushfiqur, Mahmudullah are no more . Curious to see how younger players come up to fill up their boots

Mahmudullah is done for good. waste of space, needs to be kicked out from ODI too. He wont retire because he wants to play CT25. Living on past reputation. In fact even Mushfiqur needs to be gone. BD have players for ODI’s, Zaker Ali did well, Liton Das to come back, Miraz batting higher looking ok but number 4 is too high for me he is number 5 best suited. Sarkar has looked good two matched had starts couldve got 50s easily but unlucky didnt review that. Always said for BD standards theres not many better than Sarkar and Das in ODI’s. Look at Tanzid he has had more chances than any opener in the history of BD cricket without any meaningful impact of 100 in his first 10 matches even Anamul Haque scored ton within 5matches.

Bangladesh have defeated Afghanistan by 68 runs in 2nd ODI.

Series is now 1-1.
Bangladesh level series courtesy of brilliance from Najmul Hossian Shanto

Afghanistan's spin attack recorded figures of 38-0-144-7, while Bangladesh's bowlers had 21.3-2-72-5. Afghanistan's fast bowlers struggled, conceding 108 runs without a wicket in 12 overs, whereas Bangladesh's pacers secured four wickets for just 111 runs in 22 overs. This disparity led to Afghanistan falling 68 runs short of a target of 253, allowing Bangladesh to level the series.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 76 for Bangladesh, and despite Afghanistan's top order showing some resistance, only Rahmat Shah managed a half-century with his 52 off 76 balls. Bangladesh's bowlers excelled, with key catches contributing to their success.

Nasum Ahmed is back after a while. Now that Haturu is gone. Nasum actually is the man of the match 2nd odi, scored 25 of 24 late on, taken 3 wickets for 28 runs in 8.3 overs. Who the heck chose Shanto as man of the match, slow test innings with a strike rate of 63.

Sharjah has a sluggish pitch. 230-240 is a good score here.

I think Shanto did okay in this game.

ODI is BD's strongest format (both historically and in recent times). Most of BD's series wins have been in ODI format.

I think bowling is okay but batting needs a boost. A few batters need to be replaced.

BD need to play T20 + ODI on flatter pitches. As soon as wicket becomes 300+ scores, BD gets badly exposed. Likes of Klassen, Miller, Phil Salt types of players will take all of ours spinners to cleaners in tournaments.

I personally prefer sluggish pitches. It is because I am old school and I like 230-250 scores like good old days.

Having said that, I agree with you that BD need to practice more on flat pitches. It can help them during ICC events (where pitches are often batting-friendly).

Good win for Bangladesh. They needed that. Cannot be losing Against Afghans every time.

Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, 3rd ODI

Bangladesh have won the toss and have opted to ba

Teams:

Bangladesh
(Playing XI): Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Zakir Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz(c), Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali(w), Nasum Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

Afghanistan (Playing XI): Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Allah Ghazanfar, Nangeyalia Kharote, Fazalhaq Farooqi

Tanzid Hasan is not international material. Thats enough of this experiment giving him countless of chances. He needs to go back domestic and work out his issues. International cricket isnt the place to learn basics.

Soumya Sarkar hasnt played in a while but has looked so good all three odis this series. He hasnt gone on to get a biggie but has given BD good starts though. Needs to cash in when you’re set. That dismissal in this 3rd match was pure lazy.

The Afghans are now so pumped up, jumping all over the place even tackling each other in the field. In the 20th over Rashid Khan made a slide to get the ball which tripped Gurbaz over LMAO

BD - 121/4 (27 overs).

Good recovery after a hiccup.

If BD can reach 230-240, that should be competitive here (sluggish Sharjah).

Hope Bangladesh can see this through. Need another 100 runs and then the game will be there's iA.

Whats the opinion from both Bangladeshi and Afghanistan fans here, who is favourite to win today?

Bangladesh?
Or
Afghanistan?

Since BD have crossed 220 (and are looking good for 240-250), I think BD are ahead at this stage.

In Sharjah, 230+ is a challenging total to chase.

Bangladesh has to bowl

well to win . Gurbaj is a big innings due

No century for Mahmudullah. He is run-out at 98.

BD finish at 244/8 after 50 overs.

Afghans need 245 to win.

Innings break.
Mustafizur is due to ran havoc today in Afghanistan batting today.
Omarzai was bowling slower off cutters with good effects.
Pacers have to take pace off often on this pitch. Slow pitch.

I am also backing Bangladesh.
Great innings from Mahmudullah. Fantastic knock. A great servant ,a legend of our cricket. True gentleman.

Batters have done their job. 244 is a good score here.

If they lose, it would be the fault of the bowlers.

Anyway, Nahid Rana is making his ODI debut today. Not the ideal pitch for him probably.

Why is Bangladesh playing 3 pacers in sluggish Sharjah? I would play 2 pacers and 3 spinners here.
