Afghanistan to host Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series in November 2024

Is not that Afg needs to show anyone that they are a much better side than BD(which I think even a die hard but logical BD fan will agree) but if they can win chasing 240+ in this sluggish pitch to win the series, that would surely mean Afg putting down the foot on the debate if there was any

I feel like captain should give Soumya Sarkar a few overs. His slow medium bowling can be effective on this surface.

It can also eat out a few overs from Shoriful's quota (who has been expensive).

Looks like Mehidy’s test innings will be costly. Slowed everything down. Man was striking below 50 in modern odis. You cant do that no matter how bad the wicket is gotta go at least SR of 60+ if it’s challenging situation.

I would fault the fielders more. Many missed opportunities.

Anyway, game is not done yet. Let's see how it ends.

Sharjah can be a tough place to chase. So it's still not a given that AFG will win

Afghans simply cannot afford both Rahmat and Hashmat in that lineup.

Problem for BD is they only have 1 over of spin left after this. Nasum has bowled out. Mehidy has 1 over left.

Pace should be easy for the Afghans.

Mehidy was too slow in his innings.

BD were like 72/4.

At that time, consolidation was necessary knowing BD's brittle batting.

BD still reached 244 which was a good total. If they can't defend 244, it would be the fault of the bowlers and fielders.

This is the evolution period of Omarzai. In some years world will recognize him as one of top pace bowling all rounders

Oh no Afghanistan is won the series against Bangladesh.

Now how can @sweep_shot bro say that Bangladesh is ahead of Afghanistan in odi because they had won the last Series against Afghanistan. :kp

Nah man, these 230-240 scores wont get you anywhere in any part of the world anymore. Looking at Afghanistan batting, there didnt seem to be any demons on the pitch.

Check 1st and 2nd games. 230+ were comfortably defended.

230-240 can be enough in Mirpur and Chennai too.

Anyway, BD's fielding was poor. Many missed opportunities.

This series BD were rebuilding with a new team so it's like whatever. However, Afghanistan almost made it to semi of 2023 WC. So overall, now Afghanistan is better than BD in ODI + T20 and the ranking shows that as well.

It's the one format BD are half decent at and their best batter is still a near 39 year old in Mahmudullah.

Forget Afghans , Windies will surpass BD in ODI cricket the way things are going.

Their core looks stronger and younger. At this rate, BD won't qualify automatically for 2027

Without Miraz and Mahmudullah, BD might have been bundled out for under-200.

If you want to blame the batters, I think top order is to be blamed.
its ok. They are rebuilding with a new team. There are plenty of question mark left to resolve. Tanzid Tamim is an impactful player, however, he hasnt given the confidence he can play long inning or even a 50ish inning.

Hridoy is inconsistent in ODI.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Azmatullah Omarzai shone as Afghanistan clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1 with a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh on Monday. Gurbaz, who struggled in the first two matches, rebounded impressively in the decider, becoming the second-youngest player after Quinton de Kock to score eight ODI centuries. Afghanistan secured the series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, chasing down Bangladesh’s target with ten balls to spare.

After being put in to bat, Bangladesh posted a competitive 244 for eight, thanks largely to a 145-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Mehidy Hasan Miraz, leading in the absence of regular captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Mahmudullah. Miraz contributed 66 runs off 119 balls with four boundaries, while Mahmudullah, bouncing back after two low scores, scored 98 off 98 balls, hitting seven fours and three sixes before being run out on the last ball of the innings.

Despite a few starts from Tanzid Hasan Tamim (19) and Soumya Sarkar (24), Bangladesh struggled early, slipping to 72 for four in 14.4 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai was the standout bowler for Afghanistan, taking four wickets for 37 runs in his seven overs.

In Afghanistan’s chase, Gurbaz led the way with a composed century. After losing Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi in quick succession, Gurbaz held steady and built a crucial 100-run partnership with Omarzai. Gurbaz reached his half-century in 60 balls and brought up his eighth ODI century in 117 deliveries before he was dismissed by Miraz for 101 off 120 balls, featuring five fours and seven sixes.

Following Gurbaz's departure, Omarzai took charge, reaching his fifty off 57 balls and remaining unbeaten on 70 off 77 deliveries. Mohammad Nabi provided valuable support with a 34-run not out, helping Afghanistan chase down the target comfortably. For Bangladesh, Nahid Rana and Mustafizur Rahman each picked up two wickets.

We have already qualified. 27 is not a 10 team tournament

Don't think so. Teams have to be within the Top 9 in ODI rankings by 31st March , 2027 for automatic qualification.

Else you will have to play qualifier I think
I don't think we will play qualifiers. If we do end up playing qualifiers I would be the happiest. BD at the current moment need to earn a spot

Yeah this is assuming Windies , SL, AFG all end up above BD in the rankings by then of course . But finishing in Top 9 by then is a must.

Athar Ali later said it was a very good batting track and near 300 score was possible.

No. It was not a 300 track. If that was the case, Afghans would've chased it down in 40 overs.

Sharjah is not a 300 ground historically. It is always low-scoring.

Nahid Rana is a real find for BD. Looks very promising.

Joker Ali is so sh.t behind the stumps. I don't believe I have seen a worse wicketkeeper in my life. Cost BD the series. Is Liton Das injured?

Afghanistan have to get rid of Hashmatullah Shahidi. He is pure sh.t. Bats like 1970 and does not posses a big shot.
